New Owners & New Vets - They're Excellent & Affordable!!! 11/22/2011

My lovely old Lab Ruby had an ear infection that resulted in a hematoma and my schedule makes it impossible to get to a Vet during normal business hours. I just happened to be reading my Acorn and saw an ad that Alamo Veterinary was under new Mgt and was announcing extended and emergency care and made an appt to see Dr. Nagel. She was so compassionate and took all the time I needed to answer my questions and reminded me so much of Dr. Rabiner that I had been seeing for 15+ years prior to her (way too early) retirement that I will be back. Ruby and I can confidently recommend Dr. Nagel at Alamo Veterinary. Okay truth be told Ruby is on the fence - she is not at all fond of the E-Collar but she really loved Dr. Nagel & Kiki! more

Sorely disappointed 9/16/2010

I brought my 11yr old dog, Buddy in last Thursday with a wound on his chest and in need of an exam. They did a VERY brief exam on my dog and then recommended surgery to close the wound. They sent in a receptionist to explain it to me and she did not know what half the stuff was on the sheet. The total cost was $989 to repair the wound. I opted to take Buddy home, paid the $42 exam fee (which I found out they had a coupon for no charge or half off, which I was not offered).\r My dogs wound has completely healed on its own with a little anticeptic. No surgery required. I am new to the area and was really looking for a compassionate vet who took the time to explain things and actually examine my dog. No one even called us to see how he was doing after we left. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats I could have been a very loyal customer but now instead I am sorely disappointed. Have compassion, take the time to explain things, and most importantly give options and understanding. more

Good Vet Gone Bad!!! 6/15/2010

I have been taking my dogs to Alamo Vet for about 4 years and we loved Dr. Rabiner but now that she is gone things have gone south...and fast.\r The medication that my dog has been taking for a couple of years suddenly doubled in price without any explanation. Also, the clinic tried to force me into seeing a doctor for a simple prescription refill. \r I find their business practice to be simply reprehensible and disgusting. Furthermore, I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy nor would take my own pet there in my worst time of need.\r Please, Please, Please heed this warning!!!! These people are CROOKS!!!\r \r Mike W. more

Alamo Vet 5/29/2010

I was worried that my dog wasn't feeling well because he was groaning a lot for what seemed to be no reason. I let it go for a few days and then I got worried so I decided to take him to the vet. The doctor there examined him by poking and prodding him with his hands for a bit. Then he told me that I should play with my dog more and maybe buy him a new toy to put him in a better mood and then he won't groan anymore. (my dog gets more attention and toys than most children do). So in the end he basically charged me 42 dollars to tell me to be nice to my dog and buy him a toy. idiot. more

Stay AWAY 9/27/2009

I took my Cat in for a routine test, doesn't require an office visit, Dr Cisneros said he needed to exam her and charged me an office visit to look at my cat. that's all he did was look at her. After three days the test came back and the thyroid levels were high and he increased her dosage by four times. I explained her history of having the beginning stages of renal failure along with the thyroid condition and he said that the increased dosage was the correct course. I returned to the vet the next week to see the results for myself and again explained her history and that treatment with tapozal for thyroid would increase the chance for renal failure and he again convinced me his way was the right course. After all, He's the Vet. Pros: Use to Be a Premium Vet Hospital Cons: Now The Worst Place in Simi Valley more

A Great Place To Take Your Pet 9/16/2009

My dog was dying and Dr. Cisneros saved her life and taught me how to care for my dog so that I could have her a little longer. The staff is always concerned about my dog whenever I call or come in. Even though my circumstances are difficult, I have had only the best of care for my pets there. I am so surprised to see some of the comments that are here. I have had no such experiences here and I have been taking my three dogs to Alamo Vet for four years. Sorry to hear that Dr. Cisneros has left though. Lets hope the quality of care stays the same. Pros: Clean, Caring, Reasonable, Cons: None more

Still a nice Vet! 9/5/2009

I know change can make people really cranky but some of these reviews are wild. We have been going to Alamo for the last eight years. Old Alamo and new building. Even with the changes in doctors and staff we have always had a pleasant experience. They now have a vaccine clinic so you can save money. The long term care is still nice and the staff remember your animals. The doctor we say just today took his time and went over details and options with us for our dog who was having an allergic reaction. They dont over sell, which was really nice! They squeezed us in today for a late appointment! So I say...see for yourself! more

New Alamo Veterinary Hospital is Horrible 9/5/2009

I went into Alamo the other day and one of the receptionists told me that Dr. Cisneros ( the Dr. that currently works there) & Dr. Greywal have killed (euthanized) the hospital cats that Dr. Rabinerr left behind when she retired. The cats where all under 6 years of age. I asked for Bangee the black cat in the wheelchair, and I was told that he was 1 of the 3 that was euthanized. I had just been in 2 weeks prior and I saw Bangee and was petting him, he looked very healthy. I am never going back there again, I am disgusted with the new owners!!!!!!! They also killed my neighbors dog, a couple of months ago, they gave him 2 types of medications that cannot be mixed together, for it could be fatal. Fatal it was. They killed their puppy. DONT GO TO THIS PLACE, THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!! They are MURDERERS!!!!! more

Alamo Veterinary Hospital is still a wonderful vet. 6/26/2009

I was very disheartened to see the bad reviews of this vet. I used this vet 12 years ago for my cockapoo when she passed away and they were awesome then. I moved out of town to Northern NV and came back this past summer. I had a black lab that was having health problems and was at first disheartened to learn the business had been purchased and moved etc. but decided to go back anyways to try it out. They keep good hours, making weekend appointments available for working people and they were very compassionate and helpful with the passing of our sweet lab. We have since gotten a puppy and when we had an emergency with him a month ago, they took us right away, no appointments, no questions asked. The girls up front have remained the same, I do not see a high turnover which is heartening as well. The charges are not excessive. I will continue to support this vet and would encourage others to give them a try despite the bad reviews other people have left on this post. more

Stay away from this place. 2/19/2009

This is, quite possibly, the worst place in Simi Valley to take your pet these days. The new corporate owners have managed to destroy what was once a wonderful, caring place to take your animals for excellent treatment. These new owners can't keep a decent vet there, much less a good one. Thankfully, most people realize that and stay away. Dr. Rabiner retired and Dr. Milburn stayed for a while, but is now practicing in Thousand Oaks. There seems to be a revolving door there now for vets and there are only two employees that have been there longer than a year. This is such a sad thing to have happen, for pets and for their people. more

Alamo Veterniary Clinic 12/7/2008

I use to Love the staff at Alamo Veterinary. I have been very disappointed the last few times I have taken my Cat. The new staff is not as caring the follow-up it terrible. \r \r I told the vet my cat was not as active as usually. I was told that all cats do is eat and sleep, which is somewhat true but cats are also active. I took a feces sample and found out my cat had worms which no vet at the clinic ever suggested. Also, I had to call to get the test result no one call me to tell me the test was positive. You would think if they cared about animals they would have try to put the animal on medication as soon as possible. In the past the clinic always called to see how you pet was doing not any longer.\r \r In addition, when I called to follow-up with the doctor to find out how I could tell the worms were gone. I was told once you treat the cat they will almost never come back This is not true by what I read on the internet. Also, the funniest thing I was told was is to not take my more

Alamo Veterinary - Dr. Barry Reed 11/6/2008

Stay away from Dr. Barry Reed. I had a very bad experience with him. I took my Weimaraner in for a bump on his leg. He suggested that we open the bump up and look for a for foxtail or whatever was causing the bump. I reluctantly agreed that it wasn't getting better on it's own and said yes to the minor surgery. What I picked up from him after the surgery was an atrocious job of suturing and the bump has not been "fixed" I now have a dog with a significant (2" long) scar on the front of his leg and a open sore where the bump was that will not heal. So I wasted $300 on the surgery and now have a dog with an unsightly scar right on the front of his leg. I am now searching for a competent Vet! Beware all the good vets have left Alamo Veterinary. more

A Great Office - Ruined by Corporate Owners 9/5/2008

Please note that I am reviewing the entire office - not the doctors themselves. I happen to love and adore Dr. Milburn, she is a wonderful vet. My issue is with the new owners and how corporate they have made the office. \r \r 1. They installed cameras in the rooms making me wonder if they don't trust their customers or their doctors. \r 2. The pictures that Dr. Rabiner took with her have not been replaced - the office feels cold and boring. \r 3. They've started hiring younger, inexperienced girls who really have no idea what they are doing. \r 4. A new 'subject to change' notice about their fees has gone up, which tells us they care more about the profit they are making. \r 5. The new owners don't even work there! Maybe it's just me but it says something when someone buys a business yet works somewhere else. \r 6. The TV now plays advertisements for medication rather than something entertaining for their customers to watch while they wait. Again, back to the money issue?\r \r As long as Dr. more

My pets 5/21/2008

The Vet. Dr N. did not exam on them carefully two years ago. She did not explain how my dog die. All I got was vague. Even they refused to give me the copy of record ! The place was always crowd and the appts always booked up. The staff were nice and wonderful. The quality of care for pets were fair. I dont recomend this. more
