I am excited with this restarant

Wow! Very Impressive! 3/22/2008

My husband & I dine out a lot, and being exposed to good restaurants around the world has made our tastes a bit more discerning. It takes much to impress us nowadays, but Akasha did just that. Since it had only been open a month, we expected a lot of flaws that needed to be ironed out, but I couldn't really find anything wrong. We had dinner there last Thursday & had a great time. Our server was very friendly & knowledgeable, suggesting items that were truly good. The place itself is aesthetically pleasing, & although it was full, it wasn't too crowded. For starters, we had the Butter Lettuce Albacore Wraps. It may look tiny, but the flavors alone left us satisfied. With Thai/Indian influences, the seared tuna, veggies, curry peanuts & sweet/spicy sauce all just came together - simply delicious. I had the scallops afterwards, which was tender & tasty very earthy & organic (c/o the wild rice). My hubby had the salmon, cooked perfectly. I usually find cooked salmon a bit too fishy, but this one tasted mild & was complemented well with some sweet barbecue-like sauce. We also tried the famous onion rings - so good! Crsipy batter, no trace of oil, mild (no strong onion taste). For dessert, we shared the salty chocolate tart. I couldn't tell that it was made of soy instead of real milk - it just tasted good! Even their drinks were very good, healthy-tasting & creative. We felt like we had eaten really good food - both for our palate and for our health- when we left. I can't believe how good healthy food could taste (usually it would be bad-tasting or bland). With a restaurant like this, you won't feel bad about eating out a lot. Akasha sure has achieved what no other restaurant in LA has. Pros: eco-conscious, organic & YUMMY food, knowledgeable staff, easy parking, reasonably priced Cons: NONE!!! more

Best New Restaurant! 3/18/2008

The food is amazing! The service is great. The atmosphere is romantic and fun.The menu is really interesting and fresh. The fact that it is green and serves organic food grown locally is just icing. So many times, places that have a conscience are bright and depressing inside, but Akasha's is dark and alluring and filled with great energy without subjecting you to that RFD atmosphere. I've NEVER had onion rings this good!!!! They will rock your world. The forbidden rice is great. Try the mushroom tart and the ribs. This place will soon become one of your favorites. more

Overly Pretentious, Underwhelming 3/15/2008

I saw this restaurant profiled on ""Flip that Restaurant"" and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. When we first arrived, we were greeted by a hostess with an overwhelming sense of self-importance. She asked if we had a reservation, and when she found out that we didn't, she looked at us as if we were wearing trash bags. ""I'll see how far along we are,"" she replied, then proceded to stare at her computer for a moment, and then had us immediately taken to one of the many available tables. Really, if you're going to pretend that you're that busy, at least follow through and make us wait! Pros: No wait, despite what the hostess wants you to believe Cons: Price, food more

Whoever though healthy could taste this good! 3/11/2008

It typically takes a new restaurant three plus months to offer the quality and consistency in food and service, that we experienced yesterday during their first week of lunch service. We ordered four dishes: an appetizer salad, the fig pizza, the red dahl and soft steak taco's. We finished with the apple tart and creme brulee. I may not spell well, but they sure no how to pack a dish with flavor. Everything we had was superb, healthy and fresh. And as I walked out I noticed that the Apple Tart was ""vegan"" and made with spelt. I nearly fell over myself as I purchased four to go for our dinner with friends who only eat organic and healthy. If I lived closer, I'd eat here for lunch daily. Prices are appropriate at lunch, and a bit more upscale for dinner. But for those who know what it costs to serve a meal in a good resturaunt ""you get what you pay for"". Pros: Food, food, food and service Cons: nothing yet more

Akasha - great ambiance, terrific service and the food is healthy, tasteful and diversified. 3/8/2008

We were at Akasha for dinner and found it to be more than we had hoped for with great service, creative menu choices that were healthy and although we ate quite a bit we did not feel it the next day like y ou do in most restaurants where the food is unhealthy with additives and hormones in most everything. So we ventured back with a reservation for lunch. Our server was very helpful. He made excellent suggestions and we didn't go wrong with our choices. I had the turkey burger which was the best I've ever had anywhere with sweet potato fries as the side dish. My husband had a pizza which was thin crusted with prochuitto and very tasty and surely not a disappointment. The service was impeccable, everyone pleasant and Akasha and her husband came over to greet us and say hello. Very down to earth and welcoming. This place is a total winner and there must be something wrong either mentally or physically with those who give these crazy negative reviews which have no meaning in fact or truth. Must be done by competitors who are sore losers. How sad. This place is a definite winner. Not inexpensive as we are talking quality organic food carefully planned out not a bunch of things piled up on a plate to make you feel so full you can't move and then go home sick. The desert of Lemon Meringue with berries on the side was also terrific and some of the lemon was running slightly out of the tart which was quite spectacular. This time we did not drink any alcohol but it sure looked tempting. We will most definitely make this place one of our regulars. Pros: food quality, service, atmosphere, bar drinks more

Great food, make reservations, not snobby for the slightly high price 3/7/2008

Glad I made reservations beacsue people in line in front of me were bummed they had to sit in the bar to wait a long time for a table. I showed up 5 minutes early for my 8:30 reservation and got seated immediately. Service was great and so were the recomendations. Highly recomend the lettuce wraps. Felt light and healthy without sacrificing taste. My date's salmon was amazing. The parsnip-potatoe puree that came with my short ribs were amazing. As for the short ribs them selves, good but not great. Apple Tart was light and fluffy. Yes, it was a bit expensive but we live in LA, what do you want? My favorite part was how I felt full/satisified from the food but not that gross feeling. The food was healthy (at least felt that way) and didn't sacrifice taste. Definitely check this place out, make reservations. I went on a weekday and it was packed, lord only knows what it is like on a weekend. Pros: Food was great and so was the service Cons: kinda loud, make reservations more

Overpriced and overhyped 3/6/2008

We were very excited about this new culver city restaurant, but found it was more about the hype than the food and experience. We were seated very late for our reservation(30 minutes) and then it still feels like you are in a more casual grill than expensive restaurant. The food was extremely expensive and most not worth it. The bread was delicious as were the onion rings. The macaroni and cheese and short ribs left a lot to be desired. The server was extremely kind although it took forever to get food(could just be new restaurant issues). We also found the ""we are organic but not healthy"" thing very strange. I would return for the bar possibly and for the cafe in front for coffee and baked goods. I will most likely not return for the dining room. Pros: in Culver City, Great Bread Cons: Expensive, food subpar and heavy, loud more

Very good neighborhood place. 3/6/2008

Great new addition to our neighborhood. Had dinner at the bar twice, both times good. The first time had the Indian influenced Salmon. Delicious but portion on the small side. Next time went had burger at the bar. Not too crazy about it. Great glasses of wine at the huge bar. Bar staff still a little untrained but hope they get the kinks out. Pros: Great decor, good wine selection by the glass, good food. Cons: Need a bar menu more

Do not go here (please) 3/5/2008

Everything on the menu is amazing, the bar is outstanding and spacious, the atmosphere comfortable, and the service is great. I've been twice and can't wait to go again to try more of the dishes. Pros: food, atmosphere, service, bar, menu more

A wonderful experience 3/3/2008

I can not say enough about the wonderful experience i had at this restaurant this past Saturday night. The food and service was well exceeded my expectations of a restaurant only open for a few weeks. I will return again soon! Pros: Great atmosphere, food and service Cons: Tough to get in, make reservations in advance it is worth the wait more
