Nice atmosphere, but the food was not enough. Seems that this was an appetizer/tapas place, rather than a dinner place. more

Great Food, Chic Atmosphere 11/22/2010

Before this past weekend, I was hesitant in visiting the reinvention of Zink in the former M5 location in South park, but after having meal here, I was pleasantly surprised. Being that it was a friday evening, the place was pretty busy. The bar area was packed and the tables were a 30 minute wait. We had no problem waiting, but then walked back to the quiet lounge area attached to the bar and there were a few tables open which we snagged one up. I would suggest doing this unless you desperately want to sit in a chair at a table. This area offers both the full menu and Bar Menu which has smaller portions for $5, all were a good deal. After getting a couple drinks and a few Bar items, the food was great thus far so we decided to stay for dinner. I had ordered the Flank Steak with Parmesean Truffle Fries and an arugula Salad. All were fantastic. The flank steak was cooked perfectly and surprisingly tender for the cut of meat. The only real disappointment was the desert. I ordered the creme brulee but it was no longer available, so I opted for the ice cream sandwich cookie. It was massive, but lacked flavor and I wouldn't ever order it again. All in all, the visit was a good one and I think this type of cuisine will have a lot more success in this location for the Harpers Group. more

Delicious! 2/3/2010

I went to Zink with my husband and a group of friends after the ballet. Their food was amazing, loved the atmosphere, and the pricing was very reasonable for a downtown restaurant. I would highly recommend Zink! Pros: Awesome food, great location! more

Great food, good service 1/24/2009

My wife and I have been twice. The food is outstanding. It can be pricey, but it is downtown, and you have to expect to pay for a good meal. Can't speak to the other reviews of bad service because ours has been excellent. Our first visit was after the Lewis Black comedy show in Uptown and we went for a late dinner. The waiter was very aware of exactly how much attention we needed and WANTED (two very different things) and was very thorough and polite, and quite humorous. We ordered an appetizer, some sushi, a burger that we split - and the waiter did that for us and brought it on two plates - and drinks - we each had two with top shelf liquors. I think with tip it was around $70. I tend to be generous as I have worked in the service industry previously, but the meal and drinks came to around $45-$50. The second visit was for the buffet on Thanksgiving Day I believe, and it was OUTSTANDING! There were so many choices - the turkey was moist and very tasteful, they had another carving meat (can't recall offhand), they had desserts and potatoes and mac and cheese and on and on and on. When I got up to get some dark meat, the current turkey didn't have any, so they brought me a whole leg from the kitchen! But the best was the waiter - he was a riot! He definitely enjoyed his craft. He mockingly chided us for not eating more or trying this or that, he was joking around with us and he had the whole section laughing. We had a blast! Pros: Atmosphere, service, food taste, drink selection Cons: Might be nice to have a valet to park cars more

Go for the food, but not for the service 9/29/2008

Went to Zink for lunch on a Thursday with a co-worker. I've only been to the bar, and this was my first time eating at the restaurant. Food was good, but the service was horrible. Despite that the restaurant was nearly empty, the hostess want us to sit next to the kitchen. Additionally the waitress looked old and depressed. Nothing wrong with an aging waitress, but a charismatic personality is integral in the service industry. She also didn't looked at me once while presenting the specials. She just focused on my co-worker. For the first time in my life, I felt invisible. I wanted to complain to management, but didn't bother since my co-worker was nearby. I'll never go back to Zink. I could get good food in other restaurants, but with great service! Pros: Food Cons: Service, SERVICE and Worst Service! more

Simply put, Zink serves simple classic dishes at their best!!! 9/13/2008

Not the best since they moved to South Park. Uptown they were the best little place relative to all the garbage that is uptown. In South Park, they are just another restaurant. ehhh... Everything on Zink's menu. I promise you've had before. You just never had them like this. The Apple Pie is a baked apple Stuffed with almonds. The Calamari is soft and cut lengthwise with a buffalo sauce. The pork shoulder was moist, soft, hot and served over crunchy greens that really complimented the meat. The salmon served with grilled okra was great. Everything I mentioned is simple american foods. But the combinations and the care in preparation mixed with the price makes Zink a great place to dine. PS dinner for 2 with drinks, appetizer and dessert...$70... GOTO ZINK Pros: Simple food done Excellent more

good food and atmosphere, poor service 3/28/2008

we went here for brunch and it was wonderful to sit outside on their patio and relax. however, it took us about half an hour to actually get our drinks, and other half hour after that to be served our food. however, the food was really really good and i'd recommend it. it was presented tastefully and was pretty much perfect. i'd recommend this place but be prepared to deal with a slow wait and a slightly rude wait staff. Pros: delicious food Cons: bad service more

Great spot 1/22/2008

I have been to Zink twice. The first time was a sit down on a Friday night. LOVE the atmosphere. Very relaxing. One thng I don't like is the seating arrangement but the food makes you forget about your lovely neighbors that are a little too close for comfort. The restaurant wasn't high priced in my opinion but gives you the feeling of an upscale restaurant. The service is excellent. Prompt seating and friendly servers who are able to give you real input on possible selections. I will defitely be going back on a regular basis! Pros: Food, price, service Cons: Parking - as always more

Great for Lunch 1/1/2008

We stopped at Zink for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately and our waiter was very friendly. He recommended the Zink bomber or something like that (tea and lemonade mix) which was quite good. The dinner prices were pretty expensive, about $25 per plate, but the lunch prices were very reasonable. $8-15 was what you should expect. The barbecue sandwich was awesome, and the grilled chicken panini was delicious. The truffle fries were also very good. This is an excellent restaurant to eat at for lunch as you get no diminished quality from dinner at much lower prices. Pros: everything Cons: dinner prices are kind of expensive more

Great choice on a Friday night 11/19/2007

Ate at Zink on a Friday night after a Charlotte Checkers game. Had never been to Zink before, but we all agreed we were glad we had given it a try. We were seated promptly, and our server came by soon, which was great considering they were very busy. Menu was good, and all 4 of us enjoyed our orders. Lots of variety for the varying tastes at our table (we had one vegetarian and one carnivore in the group). We asked for two of the dishes to be modified slightly, and they came to us just as we had requested (this shouldn't be a problem in any restaurant, but in many places the server or the kitchen don't pay attention to preferences, especially when it is a busy night). Appetizers were a good choice, as it was late and we did not want a lot of heavy food...the soups were especially good. Ambiance was nice, and our son said Zink would be a ""great date restaurant"". Would definitely go to Zink again. Pros: ""great date restaurant"" Cons: sushi seemed a bit pricey more

Don't order any sushi!!! 5/6/2007

I live in Raleigh and visit Charlotte often for work. I decided to stop in Zink on a Sunday evening for dinner. I was in the mood for sushi, but didn't realize they served it until after I sat down. I saw the sushi menu and was ecstatic. Then I saw the prices and thought ""oh well, I still want sushi."" My happiness over finding sushi quickly turned to utter disgust when I saw what was put out before me. This is the worst sushi I have ever had, and I eat sushi 2-3 times per week. They tried to make it look bigger than it really is by using ridiculously huge amounts of rice. You could practically see through the salmon. The unagi nigiri I ordered was awful. It was literally 1/2 inch wide. I had an order (2 pcs) of eel, salmon, tuna, a Zinc Inc. roll, 1 beer and it was $40. Raleigh is just as expensive as Charlotte and in the sushi place downtown there, for that money, I could easily feed 2 people on a much better quality sushi. The rest of the menu looked good, but never again will I visit this place unless I know changes are made. more
