Zachary's is too hectic and diners seem squeezed too tightly - seated far too close together. The pizza is ""all sauce"" I'm really not sure why this pizza gets so many rave rev...

Phat-tasty! 11/15/2002

Bay area is short of excellent pizza places. Most places' ""za"" are too doughy, tasteless or overall unimpressive. But, Zachary's is truly the best of the Bay! more

Yummy! 11/13/2002

The deep dish spinach and mushroom pizza is fabulous! You can also take home a half-baked pizza to complete in your own oven. Pros: Excellent Pizza, Near Bart Cons: Crowded more

good, but not great! 11/13/2002

family friendly but ALWAYS insanely crowded (at both locations) service sometimes friendly, usually indifferent - maybe because the staff is so busy pizzas are good, but way too much of the over-acidic tomato sauce and if you live in Berkely, pick up a pizza from the Cheese Board instead! Pros: stuffed pizza, good crust, inexpensive Cons: crowds/long wait, rushed service, too much sauce more

The Ultimate 11/6/2002

I agree, Zachary's pizza is the best I've ever tasted. The stuffed is, of course, the ultimate. But even a slice on a paper plate for a quick lunch can't be beat. Yes, there's always a wait, but it's well worth it. Pros: limited menu, great food Cons: always a wait more

Not My Style 11/3/2002

This Chicago Pizza was definitely not my style; while this is not a service-oriented pizza; service that existed and ergonomics of facility were confusing and difficult to navigate -- even when not crowded. I would never wait in line for food at Zachary's. more

Like a piece of Heaven 11/1/2002

I live in SF and have NO problem paying the bridge toll and fighting traffic, plus waiting an hour for a table just to get my hands on a slice of this pizza heaven. You will LOVE the pizza here, I have no doubt. more

Greatest Pizza on the Planet 11/1/2002

Once you have tried Zachary's Chicago Pizza you will never desire any other. Its truly the best! Go get some . . . more

Deeply Delicious! 11/1/2002

Zachary's pizza is astounding. Try the spinach and mushroom pie: a zesty, flavorful tomato sauce, generous amounts of spinach and mushrooms, piled deep inside a tender cornmeal crust. Bake some cheese on top, and you've got one amazing pizza. Don't try to eat more than two slices at one sitting: this stuff is filling! It's worth bearing the uneven service for this. Pros: delicious Cons: crowded, uneven service more

best pizza, but too crowded 10/13/2002

best pizza in the bay area hands down. avoid weekend nights, it's way too crowded. more

worth the trip to the east bay.. 10/7/2002

Uno's tries to be as good...this place would give you artichoke hearts as a choice of topping back in the 80's. I have yet to find a pizza place that's as good in sf... more

zacharys sucks 10/3/2002

slightly superior to dominoes, not as good as round table, cannot begin to compare to Amichis. will never waste my money on it again. Cons: tastes lousy more

magnifico! 9/15/2002

This is the best pizza in the world! Along with the pizza, they have the best cider on tap! - I recommend it to anyone and everyone! Definitely worth the wait!!!!! more

Deep Dish Delight 9/13/2002

I had a chicken/mushroom type deep dish pizza...delicious! The tomatos in the pizza were very very fresh, the chicken and herbs were very aromatic...One of a kind pizza that didnt make me feel fat and greasy afterwards! A few of the kids that worked there were rude, but hey..there's always takeout more

Chicago on the West Coast 9/6/2002

Zachary's is the best pizza west of the Mississippi. As a native of Chicago, I have found no where else that serves up a deep dish Chicago style pizza as good as Zachary's. I eat there once a week. The only downside is the crowds and the wait. Make sure you speak up, otherwise the server will never come back. Pros: Good taste, Lively environment Cons: Crowded, Long wait more

Home of the ""Living Pie"" 9/6/2002

King of kings when it comes to the pizza... all other are merely ""also rans""! more

delicious 9/4/2002

i love their deep dish chicken pizza. when i was in college, my friend and i would splurge and get a large chicken pizza... it's just so tasty and yummy... absolutely have to try it once. more

I don't get it..I just don't get it! 9/1/2002

Zachary's is BELOVED! People crave this stuff. As for me - I am definitely missing something, as I've never liked their pizza. I first tried Zachary's around 10 years ago, and found it to be horribly bland. Back then, I thought maybe the restaurant was having an off night. I found out later: thats the way Zacharys pizza ALWAYS tastes! I've had Zachary's several times over the year, hoping that with each trip I'd finally discover why people are so insanely crazy about the place. I have yet to figure out why. The crust tastes like cardboard, the tomato sauce is totally spice-free, and the toppings are...well, I don't remember anything interesting about them. Zachary's is consistently Top Ten in the Bay Area. Why? I have NO IDEA! Pros: not much Cons: the pizza - BLECH! more

most addictive pizza 8/22/2002

I have been to Chicago, and our very own Zachary's tops some of the Chicago pizzerias that I tried. If you love pizza you MUST come to Zachary's and order a deep dish. Pros: great size for value Cons: parking in area, crowded, take out is easier more

simply the best 8/16/2002

If you only ever eat one pizza, make sure it comes from Zachary's. We make our own versionof the kitchen sink and they have never messed it up. Consistently outstanding for freshness, taste, promptness, friendliness, etc. I just wish they had a quantity discount (you know, buy 9 and get one free card or some such). Anyway, you haven;t lived until you've had one of their pizzas. more

Now this is Authentic Chicago Style!! 8/5/2002

I am a ""pizzaholic""....I love all kinds of toppings but the real deciding factor is the sauce. Flavor, texture & amount of sauce are all taken into consideration, not to mention how well the pizza itself holds up for breakfast the following morning....cold. I hadn't lived until I visited Chicago ten years ago and sampled the pizza. The sauce is definitely different than any other I had eaten. Zachary's is THE only place I have found in my area that has AUTHENTIC Chicago Style Pizza. The 45 min drive is well worth it!! I'll eat it in my car if it is too crowded inside! I asked if the owner was actually from Chicago and was told he was. This would explain it. Like I said, there's nothing like Chicago style pizza. I wish his place was closer....my waist is glad it isn't!!! Pros: authentic chicago, fresh ingredients, reasonably priced Cons: too small, too far away more
