Zachary's is too hectic and diners seem squeezed too tightly - seated far too close together. The pizza is ""all sauce"" I'm really not sure why this pizza gets so many rave rev...

The Wonderful World of Pizza 2/1/2003

The delicious smells wafting into the street as you approach Zach's are like a sucker punch to your appetite, torturing you until your Chicago Style Pizza is served to you-and then, you're out for the count...in Pizza Heaven... more

Zachary's RULES! 1/17/2003

Both the thin crust and stuffed pizza's are well worth your money, which is not alot of it in relation to other pizza pies on the market today. I tried it the first time last week and was blown away. The flavor is fresh and truly Italian. It is a must try for those of you who haven't! Yum. more

Popular Does Not Equal Tasty 1/14/2003

Zachary's is very popular, and has a cult-like following. But you'll find very few discerning diners who rave about the place. It's an unusual style of pizza for the region (deep dish), but it's not terribly well-made food. The crust is average, the sauce is bland and flavored with dried oregano and little else. The cheese is no different then what you'd find in a Round Table pizza. The main attraction is simply that it has many fans, and it's the popular thing to say ""I love Zachary's"" whether you honestly like it or not. I'd guarantee that anyone with a love for quality food could not detect anything fresh or original in a Zachary's pizza. Pros: popular, trendy Cons: poor service, overhyped, dull flavors more

Drive hours for this pizza! 1/9/2003

I didn't believe it at first that it was worth driving to the East Bay for pizza, but then I went! It was amazing! And great beer too. Definately worth the toll fee on the Bay Bridge. The pizza is just as good the next day heated up in the oven. Great pizza! Pros: Great food, Good Beer, Worth the money Cons: Parking is difficult, crowded, not in the city more

Better than Chicago 1/2/2003

On vacation recently I revisted all the ""great"" deepdish pizza places I remeber as a kid... I was shocked when I realized that Zachary's was better than all of them. Nothing beats Zach's tangy fresh tomato on their deepdish. Their Chorizo Sausage special is my favorite. Pros: Amazing Deepdish, great neighborhood, Energetic Atmosphere Cons: Wait, only 2 locations, Poor parking more

Over-rated 1/2/2003

They do NOT have the best pizza in the Bay Area. The stuffed crust is almost gag inducing with the excess sauce slathered on the top. There's enough stuff oozing out of the stuffed crust pizza to cover 3 regualar pizzas. Who's half-baked idea was it to put another layer of crust on top of the toppings? It doesn't cook properly resulting a mushy calzone texture. I have eaten there many times (everyone wants to try it) but have never been satisfied with the stuffed crust. Give it a try to see if you like it but don't expect it to live up to the hype. Pros: inexpensive, fresh Cons: crowded, busy staff more

God's gift to Pizza! 1/2/2003

Yes, this is by far the best pizza I've even had, which includes trying Chicago's top rated pizza and Zach's was better! Pros: worth the wait Cons: takes awhile to cook more

If you don't like Zach's... 1/1/2003

...you don't like good food. The pizza is the best there is period. The wait is long and service can be spotty but the pie is the best I've ever had. All the NY complainers should head back to the hole they crawled out of. more

snowbound in CT 12/25/2002

If there were a way to ship a Zacchary's pesto pizza to my new local in Connecticut, it might be worth sitting in the three feet of snow. The best pizza, miss it terribly. more

The Best Pizza anywhere! 12/6/2002

Awesome food, Great atmosphere, Terrific Staff, and cool location. Zach's Rock's!!!! more

Hands Down - The Best! 12/5/2002

No ONE can touch Zak's Pizza -- if they only delivered ah.. go early on the weekends or dont go at all...and if ya dont know...well Pros: Original, World Champion, Quality Cons: Crowded, Busy Phones more

Unbelievable!! 12/5/2002

I don't live in the bay area, but my job had me down there a couple days a week. I had been to Zach's a couple times, but I went again, and it is heaven! I even brought a half-baked pizza home for my friends birthday (in northern Cali) and it was still great! We had the Mediteranean Pizza, very very very goood!! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service Cons: crowded at peak hours, Convenient take out more

THE BEST 12/5/2002

I Love this pizza. Granted you have to be a fan of thick pizza and lots of tomato sauce. If not this is not the pizza for you. I take all my friends from out of town here and all but one have loved it! She didn't, cause she doesn't like chunks of tomatos on her pizza.... The spices are outrageous. Definitely worth the long waits! Pros: Close to Bart Cons: Horibble parking more

Deep Dish Special 11/29/2002

Zachary's probably has THE BEST deep dish pizza in the entire bay area. The regular pizza is on-tap by the slice always. If you want the deep-dish, be sure to order ahead - it takes them 20 minutes to bake it. If it is crowded, you'll be there for quite a while waiting. Great place if you are interested a really good pizza! Pros: Best deep dish around, Fast take out Cons: Crowded at lunch, Crowded at dinner more

yummmmmy pizza 11/27/2002

Although the waiting time and line at the door were lengthy, t was worth the wait. The pizza was absolutely fantastic, and I would refer anyone who does not mind eating pizza to Zachary's. more

Wonderful Addiction 11/27/2002

Zachary's pizza has got to be the BEST pizza I've ever had in the Bay Area. The chunky, flavorful tomatoes in the deep dish pizza is to die for. Their prices are a bit steep, but it's worth it. Pros: Excellent taste, Half-baked pizzas, Interesting choices Cons: Pricey, Crowded more

sucks 11/27/2002

Everyone told us that this was a great place. It's always crowded, but somehow it still sucks. They give very little sauce, and it has no flavor. If you like dry bland pizza, this is the place to go. It's so busy as to be ridiculous, you wait forever, and the service is wretched. Lake Merritt pizza is better. Cons: no flavor, no sauce, crowded more

tHE BEST PIZZA AROUND 11/27/2002

The Best Pizza in the Area, too bad it isn't closer to my house. ;) more

Once you go Zach, you never go back! 11/27/2002

Zachary's is the absolute best tasting pizza...ever! No matter if you choose the deep dish or thin (our favorite), you can never go wrong! We drive from Alameda at least 3 times a month to pick up a Zach's pizza in Rockridge. Cons: parking more

Great Pizza 11/20/2002

if you want a great pizza, this is the place to get it from, however due to its popularity and lack of franchise, the place gets so crowded. I would recommend calling first then pick up your pizza. I wish they deliver! Pros: delicious Cons: no credit cards, limited locations, crowded more
