The food was great. The service was pretty good also. The food came out fairly quickly. This is a good restaurant to just eat and have a conversation.

A large group of coworkers wanted to meet up for dinner. Since we all lived in different locations around Austin, I recommended Z Tejas due to it's central location . The atmosp...

Ancho Fudge Pie 11/5/2006

This dessert alone is reason enough to go to Z-Tejas if you love anything chocolate. This pie is served warm with a touch of whipped cream and a sprinkling of cocoa. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. This is one of my favorite restaurants due to the general outstanding quality of the food, and the overall attentiveness of the waitstaff. My favorites on the menu include Navajo Taco with includes a layer of fried spinach that must be tasted to be believed. It's crispy without being overly greasy. The oyster shooters have been our favorite appetizer and my S.O. sweares Z's rib-eye steak with garlic mash potatoes beats any other steak in town. Yes, the inside restaurant can be loud, and occasionally the waits are long, but the food is definitely worth it! Pros: Ancho Fudge Pie, Oyster Shooters Cons: A little loud, sometimes a wait more

Great "first time" Experience 8/7/2006

I visited Z' Tejas about 2 weeks ago with my fiancée and the drinks and appetizers were great. My recommendation is to try the "Perfect Patron". You won't be disappointed. Oh, big props to Jimmy who was the bartender that night. The guy makes "killer" drinks. Pros: Great Happy Hour Specials Cons: N/A more

User review by scur2u 5/30/2006

Been there twice now. Food is solid, tasty, consistent so far. Service is very good & attentive. I suggest sitting outside for the nice view and it's not as noisy as the inside restaurant. The inside doesn't have an acoustic ceiling so it's noisy. The food is remarkable considering the price point and the menu is varied & creative enough so I'll be back for sure. Pros: outside seating, free valet, good food Cons: noisy inside, crowded parking more

Great after-work spot, enjoy the views 4/30/2006

Great margaritas, good food and lots of local talent. This is a must-stop after work. Lively crowd and a good menu. 6th street location is excellent as well, and offers better ambiance due to the arrangement of the restaurant. Cons: LOUD more

AVOID the arboretum location and go to 6th street 2/23/2006

This location is a poor imitation to the 6th street location. With high valuted cellings the dinning room is very loud. The food is the same but the quality is far lower than 6th street. Save your money and go to Z-tejas on 6th well worth the drive. Pros: Good Parking, Nice selection , Great drinks Cons: Loud, Poor quality of food, Long Wait more

Loved It! 1/21/2006

I was looking for a nice restaurant to take my fiance' to in Austin. So I searched the net and found Z'tejas. The reviews sounded inviting and the prices looked reasonable. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I thought were were going to have to pay an arm and a leg. The ambience was so perfect it had fooled me. After giving the menu a once over I realized that I had been mistaken. In a nutshell, I loved this restaurant and will be dining there again soon!!! Pros: ambience, location, lighting Cons: wait to be seated more

a north side essential! 9/18/2005

This is a great, great restaurant. In summer, the view from the patio is unbeatable; in winter, the fireside dining is toasty and romantic. The menu is fabulous -- have been there several times, and every dish that my guests and I have ordered has been amazing. So glad they have this north side location! Pros: delicious food, good service, location & ambiance Cons: sometimes crowded, sometimes noisy more

Loved it! 5/14/2005

This meal was so good that hours later, I was still raving about my meal. I had the pecan crusted chicken spinach salad. Wonderful! Simple, and the dressing was amazing! My friend really enjoyed his mushroom enchiladas. Portion sizes were good, not too big, but enough to make you full. For dessert, we had the wonderful tres leches. Our server was wonderful - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu items. I haven't had such good service anywhere in quite awhile. Only con was where we were seated - right by a ramp. If it had been earlier in the evening, it probably would have been irritating, as I'm sure people would have constantly been passing our table. Without tip, for my salad, my friend's enchiladas, a beer and dessert, it was only $30. I can't wait to go back to try something new or get that divine salad again. Pros: Spinach Salad, Tres Leches, Service Cons: Location of our table more

Very Austin, avoid if you don't like noisy crowds 4/29/2005

Z'Tejas is a great Austin restaurant with southern-tex-mex style food. Very inventive, flavorful dishes, good service, with a southwest flair. This location is mostly populated with yuppie families and groups of thirty-somethings. Two gripes: the wait at this restaurant is ridiculous any night of the week, especially weekends. Make a reservation if you can. I also greatly prefer it for lunch, because at dinner this is possibly the noisiest restaurant in Austin. Ask to get seated in the lower side or rear patio if you dislike noise. It really gets unbelievably loud, I actually would not recommend bringing small children here because of that, and it's not a good first date place either because of that. Hint: inexplicably, they recently removed their great chicken-fried-chicken from the menu, but you can still order it. Pros: Original dishes Cons: Loud, Not great value more

GREAT FOOD 1/25/2005

I will eat at this restaurant just for the dessert. All of it is good, but my favorite is the cobbler. They serve it hot in an iron skillet. Brunch on the weekends is really good. They don't offer their regular menu items during this time, though. Can get crowded-make reservations. Pros: great dessert, friendly service, abundant menu options Cons: , above average prices more
