The food was great. The service was pretty good also. The food came out fairly quickly. This is a good restaurant to just eat and have a conversation.

Romantic and hip, yet child friendly! 5/30/2004

I was surprised to find that Z Tejas DOES HAVE a kid's menu, and a good one at that. Try the pasta with chicken and vegetables for a child tired of chicken strips and fries. The food is great for the adults too! The porcupine shrimp is great as is the pan seared snapper. Desserts are mediocre, so go elsewhere for that. I brought out-of-town guests here for Sunday brunch, and they got a taste of Austin! Like Z Tejas's dinner menu, the food is a texmex/traditional combo--think normal brunch fare jazzed up with things like chipotle, fried spinach, and flatbread. Entrees come with yummy muffins, too. We did not need to eat again all day. more

Hopping Happy Hour 8/20/2003

Can't beat 1/2 price appetizers til 7. They have killer margaritas (strong -- they'll hit you -- watch out!) and a good couple of draft beers. The ambiance is lovely with a great view of the Hill Country. But be prepared, it gets super crowded. Pros: Happy Hour, Margaritas, Ambiance Cons: Crowded, Not much bar seating more

This place is so yummy! After four years in Austin I finally made it over to Z Tejas last night, and it did not dissapoint. I've read other reviews about waiting, but we got there at 7 on a Thursday and were seated promptly. The appetizers, dinner, and drinks were all great, but bring some hiking shoes for the walk to and from your car. Pros: Great margaritas, Romantic Cons: Horrible parking more

They are not afraid to do different things and then do them well. The Najavo taco is proof. The atmosphere is gorgeous. Service outstanding. I've never had a bad meal here. The wait can be oppressive so be prepared. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: crowded, don't bring kids more

I've lived in Austin my entire life and Z Tejas has become one of my favorite restaurants for lunch and dinner. Although they have restaurants all over the states, I think the style of the cuisine is truly a reflection of Austin's eclectic flair. Their margaritas will knock your socks off and I absolutely love the way they meld different cuisines together to create unique and interesting flavors. I usually get the Grilled Fish Salad for lunch -- perfect portion and the sundried tomato basil vinaigrette is awesome. Highly recommend arriving a little earlier than noon if you're going for lunch. Pros: Awesome margaritas, Festive atmosphere, Fair pricing Cons: Usually crowded more
