I thought that the produce was amazing but I wouldn't dream of buying any meat product here as the majority of it looked old and not at all healthy. The fish had unclear eyes, du...

extremely rude with customers, morally impaired management 5/18/2009

...it was about 9 p.m., we almost finished filling our carts when they were going to close. They didn't allow us to take the last item, used of the dirty language and behaved an offensive way (the workers as well as the manager). Moreover, they literally pushed us out of the place without all the staff in our carts we were going to purchase. They treat their customers like sh1t. No more shopping there! i will better pay more in the other places. The manager is truly morally impaired. With such a ""service"", I hope to see them out of business soon. People like those, strangle this beautiful country. Cons: they treat their customers like sh1t more

YDFM passes counterfeit bill, then bans customer 5/18/2009

I purchased food from Your Dekalb Farmer's Market's (YDFM's) ""cash only"" cafe. My amount was $6.34. I paid it with a $20.00 bill. The cashier returned to me $13.66 in change. Pros: Cheapest prices Cons: Bad customer service more

They do not refund or exchange, very bad customer service 3/7/2009

They have a terrible customer service!! I bought a bottle of wine that had price tag of $3.99 below the shelf and I just grabbed it without checking the name of the wine with price tag, I bought whole bunch of other stuff and I did not check the price when they scan it at cashier. A day later, I checked the receipt and I paid $ 11.29 for the bottle! I went back and asked for refund, but they told me it is my falut that that I did not check the price before I went out the store and they can not do anything about it. They are very rude and no customer service at all. I am very disappointed and I do not want to shop there again. Please be careful when you buy things there, you do not get to exchange or refund. Pros: reasonable Cons: worst customer service more

Great food selection not worth the abyssmal customer service 1/2/2009

I have never had such poor customer service! I bought plums to make my daughter's baby food, and when I cut them open they were all spoiled. That same day I went back with the cut-open plums, the original bags, and the receipt, and the store refused to refund my money, or even issue a store credit! I had to argue with the woman at customer service to even speak with the manager, and when he finally came to speak to me he said there was nothing he could do. He even told me that he couldn't be sure I hadn't bought the plums at an earlier date, and was trying to return them with a different receipt! I was outraged, but filled out the customer complaint form which supposedly was going to lead to a call to me from the owner. I haven't heard from the owner yet, 5 days later. Cons: terrible customer service more

Best prices, best produce, best wine selection, but, yes, it stinks 10/27/2008

The prices are amazing (especially on spices! wow!), the produce is incredibly fresh, and you can find just about any unprocessed food you could want. Pros: Prices, selection Cons: The unavoidable aroma of bleached fish more

Is it the fish? 10/7/2008

I agree with the last post. I'm glad to know that it's not just me. Pros: Variety and price of fresh produce Cons: That prolific, invasive stench more

Great Place but Avoid Bakery Products-Taste like Fish and Bleach 9/24/2008

We live about a mile from the Farmer's Market, so are regular customers and have always loved it. Over the last year, however, my neighbors and I have stopped buying breads and pastas and sometimes cereal there. When you shop there--the market has a familiar odor of seafood and cleaning solutions (bleach) which is fine. I am glad that they keep it clean....However over the past 2 years--the odors seem to be somehow seeping into many of their products. This is so upsetting because I loved all of their homemade muffins and breads--but I think that the place needs to be closed down and aired out for a few days because the baked products are really beginning to suffer. Has anyone else noticed this? Pros: Great Variety, Great Service-don't miss it Cons: Baked Foods taste like fish and bleach more

Key Lime Pie was Sour and now the customer service sucks/why did they call Security when I asked a question? 9/12/2008

I went to the YDFM on Friday to return a sour Key Lime Pie I bought on Tuesday. I forgot the receipt. I was told regardless of that it was more than 2 days. I've had over 20-30 of these, 1st bad pie. I have been shopping here over 20 years, when they were at Emory in the little store. The clerk was rude, would not give me Manager's Mike complete name, put her hand over her name so I couldn't tell the radio station what person was giving me a hard time. Security was called because I asked for an exchange for half a cake instead of another bad pie. 4 bakery women came out, took the pie in the back, said the Mgr. ate some of the pie I bought there and that it was fine, I told them it wasn't. I was told to fill out the form. I finally did. Got ready to leave and was told Mike wanted to speak with me. He said he tasted the pie it was fine and that they will not do anything to please me regardless of the years I have been there. I told him I would tell the owner when he calls me, he said ok. I told him I had also told radio about it. He told me not to come back to the store again if I'm going to threaten them; I told him that I am an American and that I have not done anything wrong and that I can shop anywhere I want to as long as I am not doing anything wrong. Which I wasn't. I walked off, went to pay for my seafood and I had the bad pie with me which they wouldn't take and they tried to charge me for this bad pie. I had to go back and get the cust. svc. lady (the rude one) to tell him that I bought it in with me. He did apologize. Now, I have spent over $500 a month there especially in the summer, and I have told a lot of new people to the area to come to the market and bragged on it and it's history. Never Again! The owner is supposed to call me next week. I'm having a radio conf. here in Atlanta tomorrow and I'm going to let them know the rest of the story. I am totally saddened by this. I even stood up for them when the war started in 1991 & it was boycotted. Pros: There aren't any anymore, over 20 years and I got treated like I didn't matter as a customer!!! Cons: They don't like black females customers who speak up for themselves about cust. svc. and ask the right questions. more

Going downhill fast!!! 8/5/2008

My wife and I used to shop here all the time. However they have gotten progressively worse, until this past weekend, where it was just too much. They have started taking away your reusable shopping bags while you shop...which is a HUGE hassle. You have to wait to turn them in and then wait to get them back. Which is just absurd!!! Also the stock during the busiest parts of the day (sat and sun afternoons) and it is impossible to get around. Their employees are also extremely rude and will just run you over with the carts and such. If you try to complain, they have a large security guard tell you if you don't like you can just leave. This is the way the owner wants it. Well, the owner can have his store, I won't be going back!!! Pros: At this point...none Cons: Rude employees, being hassled, rude management... more

Would be organic heaven except....the horrid smell of the whole place! 3/11/2008

I finally was able to convince my husband to take a 2 hour trip to what was supposed to be organic heaven... My mother in law went with us and we were all so excited. Then my husband let me and my MIL out at the door so he could park. One step out of my car and I almost did not go in. The place had the stranges, foulest odor that almost made me sick... My mother in law said out loud... This place stinks!!! It had what I could only describe as a fish and chemical smell. It was utterly gross. We went in anyway and the odor slightly lessened Pros: The awesome organic produce at below Whole foods prices Cons: THE DEKALB FARMERS MARKET FUNKY STINK! more

BEST SELECTION OF HIGH QUALITY FOOD IN ATLANTA 12/23/2007

I've been shopping here for years and wouldn't think of shopping anywhere else. The baked goods, meat, and seafood are the freshest that you can find here in Atlanta. I also had the experience of a funny smell in my baked goods a few months ago. Some of the other reviews say it smelled like fish or a chemical smell. I don't know how to describe it but I haven't noticed it here lately. So, if anyone is interested I talked to some of the bakery and cheese employees and they said that the market recently changed all of the plastic that they use to pack all of the cheese and baked goods. And I haven't noticed the smell since in any of the cheese or baked goods. Sounds like it was the plastic that was causing the odd odor. Pros: everything is bought direct from the source around the world Cons: spent all of my money more

Could be Amazing if not for Weird Smell 9/6/2007

Let me just say that I love the Farmer's Market. It's a straight shot up on Ponce: it has very reasonable prices, an extensive range of produce (local and organic), and lots of imported items. I enjoy making the trip out every weekend to get a better selection than Whole Food's at half the price. And the atmosphere is great, reminds me of the markets we have when I lived in New York. Pros: Huge selection, great prices, local and organic produce Cons: Strange smell and taste seeps into some foods more

Great selection. Bad odor. 7/22/2007

Like most, I believe this place is incredible and unmatched in its selection. Given that, there's one thing that may keep me away in the future--the odor.First, when I got into my car I could smell it on my clothes--but it didn't stop there. The odor was easily detectable on the bags and products when I got home. The worst thing about it is how it affects the taste of food. I purchased a loaf of sourdough bread and a package of muffins. Both are apparently made on site. Yesterday, I noticed that the bread had a funny taste and tonight I tried to eat a muffin but couldn't get past the first bite because of how its taste was affected by the odor! If I do go back, I will stay away from such items. Pros: Selection of items Cons: Odor that affects the taste of its food. Often crowded. more

Dekalb Farmers Market 6/22/2007

We have loved the Dekalb Farmers Market for years and years. The smell when you walk in is somewhat of a different story, but this place has alot of foods from all countries and nationalities all over the world. We buy many baked goods from this market along with other fruits and vegetables. We never experienced anything wrong with this place until this week and last week, when we purchased muffins and bread from this market and it smelled VERY bad. We had the smell of fish in our clothes, in the food, and on our skin after leaving the Market. Pros: Many foods Cons: Smells BADD more

Funny Smelling Food 6/21/2007

Well, we have loved the Farmer's Market in Decatur for many years. Pros: Great Forever Cons: Suddenly Really Smelly more

Best products and cheapest prices you will find, just watch the dates on what you buy 6/11/2007

I have read on here about the weird taste some products at the Farmer's Market seem to have and I agree with these posters. My interpretation (like another poster) is that this is a smell from the seafood which is also sold fresh in the store and the ""fish"" smell is circulated through the store's air vents. Anything with a thin plastic covering is susceptible so just be wary of what you purchase and when it was bagged/packaged. If you purchase things on the date they were packaged (i.e., bread or cheese) you generally will be able to avoid your products smelling and tasting of this strange odor. In any case, the Farmer's Market is still the best place for fresh produce in town and also for fresh meat. Additionally their prices are extremely reasonable. I have found them far cheaper on most produce than a regular grocery store. Despite the occasional weird smelling package of cheese or bread when I forget to pay attention to packaging dates, I still think it is a wonderful store and I do the vast majority of my shopping there. Pros: so fresh and cheap Cons: watch dates or your cheese or bread may smell/taste funny more

Everyone should go here at least once! 6/9/2007

It's a little bit of an overwhelming experience to shop at the Dekalb International Farmers Market, but it's well worth it. Almost everything I've bought there has been really good, and now it's a regular stop on my shopping rounds. My favorite things: herbs & spices in bulk plastic tubs for very, very low prices, the produce section is very educational (in March they had some ""gi-normus"" strawberries that were incredible), and the wide selection of cheeses. My favorite is simply the cubed extra sharp cheddar, which I eat as a snack or instead of dinner. The packaged baked goods are pretty good, but the bakery bar is much better. The only downside: weekends during the day, the place is packed and it's hard to get down the aisles because they're also stocking shelves. Go in the evening instead! Pros: exotic produce, fresh foods, discounted day old baked goods that taste just as fresh Cons: does not accept credit cards, stocking shelves during the busiest hours, employees not very friendly more

Some products have a cleaner like aroma. Don't purchase the store-wrapped cheese 6/4/2007

I have shopped here for 18 years and will continue to do so, but have quite purchasing some item for the following reasons: Pros: Produce is still great and the organic produce is reasanably priced Cons: The in-house wrapped cheese takes on a weird cleaner/sanitizer aroma. more
