Dekalb Farmers Market is a horrible place!! 2/14/2007

Although the Farmers market has great produce and a nice bakery, I will never shop there again. They have the worst customer service. Most of the people that work their do not speak english and lack customer service skills. My mom came down from Phoenix and I wanted to show her the place, we bought a few things including spare ribs. When we got home my mom was washing the ribs and notice they did not smell good, within an hour we took them back but we did not have the receipt. We did have the sticker on it with the date and the label Dekalb Farmers Market. When we returned it we were basically accused of stealing and the rep at the front desk called someone from the meat department over and he came over smelled the meat and laughed and said there is nothing wrong with this. As if I am going to waste my time driving 20 minutes there when I have a newborn and my mother in town to get $8.00 dollars back. My mom yelled at the clerk and he called my mom a motherfu----. The security came and they gave us our money back. I have never been treated so horribly. I am going to stick to Whole Foods where customer are treated with dignity and respect. more

Atlanta's Great International Food Market! 11/14/2006

We've been shopping the Dekalb Farmer's Market for years. This is the grandfather of ""Harry's Market"" the now defunct legendary grocery destination. It never stops to amaze us with international fresh produce, meat, fish, and spices from around the world. Dozen's of different languages are spoken here, and you realize what an International City that Atlanta has become. You can also have a very nice lunch, with the International Buffet. All the food is prepared on-site, from the wonderful selections. I always learn something new when we come here- Receipes, Food finds, and just mingling with the terrific international staff. And all those hard to find spices, that you read about in your ethenic cookbooks, are easily found. Very busy especially on the weekends. Pros: International Spice & Produce Selections! Cons: Weekends Very Busy! more

Wide Variety of frdsh Foods! 10/15/2006

I visited Dekalb Farmers Market for the 1st time on 10/14/06. Never knew about it. It was a wonderful food experience. Such a wide variety of all sorts of meats, veggies, pastries, & wines, etc!!! But I was overwhelemed with the lines, and the large amounts of customers. Staff was friendly and helpful, but the customers need to learn how to push the baskets bearing to the right. Kinda like driving a car! I will definitely go back. But now, I feel cheated in the ""regular"" grocery store!! Pros: Wide Variety of Foods Cons: Customers should guide baskets to right. more

Where Atlanta gets its fresh produce 10/9/2006

Anyone who lives in the Atlanta area knows that this is the place to go for fresh produce of any kind. Pros: Huge selection of super fresh everything Cons: Strange experience, not a regular grocery store more

Best market in the area! 9/23/2006

I love shopping here. It's crowded but worth it. Best prices on meats, seafood & produce. They have a great coffee selection & it can be ground fresh their. Wine & beer selection and prices are great also! Pros: very crowded Cons: prices, selection more

Everything you need under one roof! 9/7/2006

This is a fabulous place. If you need some exotic ingredient you will find it here. It is a fun place to explore. The prices are reasonable, too. more

Eclectic smorgasboarg of goodies! 7/7/2006

I should preface this review by stating that I'm not your typical YDFM shopper. I'm a 35-year-old slacker who rarely ventures to the seafood or meat areas, and typically sticks to snacks, produce and the cafeteria - in other words, mostly foods that can be eaten within seconds of purchasing it.... Pros: Great variety, good value, excellent bakery more

I'm a dedicated fan 4/14/2006

I'm wondering if the negative reviews are from people who went to the International Famers Market on Peachtree Industrial, 'cause their reviews seem to describe it rather than the Dekalb Farmers Market. I used to live in Decatur and went there frequently and now I live downtown and still make the trek to the farmers market 'cause I think they have the best produce, meats, dairy and fish around - and at great prices. You can find things there that you would find at Whole Foods for a fraction of the price - e.g., Ciao Bella jarred products. They have an excellent selection of wines and have recently started to carry the best milk I have had in many years - it's called Farmers All Natural Creamery. I would make the trip just for that - I don't think it's carried anywhere else locally. Cons: Crowded on weekends more

a good shopping experience 2/27/2006

my first piece of advice is try to avoid shopping here on the weekends. it gets packed. i've never found anything to be overpriced. you can probably get some better deals at your local kroger, but if you are looking for an item that is hard to find, chances are this market will have it as they have a lot of everything ie 10 different varieties of apples, 10 different types of rice, any spice you can think of, etc. contrary to what people have said below i've never had an issue with buying fish...seemed fresh to me. i've also purchased beef here and it appears to be better quality then the supermarkets. bring cash as they dont accept credit cards. Pros: variety of items Cons: busy on weekends more

The Best 1/22/2006

I found market heaven, it has been and will always be the only place my husband and I will ever shop for produce, vegetables and fruit. The staff is the best. The meat selection is a wide variety and we have enjoyed all that it has to offer. This will be your best food shopping experience ever. more

Please come back! 12/25/2005

This place could be great again, I wish it was, but I keep being let down. With Whole Foods popping up around town, I don't really see a need for this place, if it continues to sell below average meats and seafood. Say it isn't so! Pros: the past, variety, location Cons: lack of quality, lines more

confusion 11/21/2005

I love this place. I'm not sure if the other reviewers are talking about the same market that I go to. There is another farmers market that I chose not to go to due to the smell and the brown/ bad meat. this market however has a butcher that actually slices the meat in front of you, live fish that you can have cleaned and gutted for you if you like, freshly sliced cheeses and international staples. more

From Great, to Mediocre, to now Intolerable... 8/20/2005

This place USED to be good. But over the past year or so it has really gone down hill. The seafood is overpriced and the last couple times I have bought shellfish it has been way below average and rank smelling. Produce is still above average. But how great can a red onion get?? The beef was loaded with fat and dye, for as soon as it got home it turned some awful grey color. I used to put up with the crowded aisles, frigid temperature, and odors of yet still undetermined origin; but that was when they had GREAT stuff. Now that it's wares are mediocre, it really is intolerable. Plus, most of the staff do not have a basic comprehension of the English language. So, if you try to complain all you get is a refund in the form of vague hand gestures and blank stares. Pros: spices, carnival atmosphere, many coffee varietals Cons: bad fish, carnival atmosphere, crummy beef more

Great for produce only 2/24/2003

I thought that the produce was amazing but I wouldn't dream of buying any meat product here as the majority of it looked old and not at all healthy. The fish had unclear eyes, dull under fins and the ones that were alive were swimming in really dirty and frothy water with many of their dead counterparts. I would recommend going for the produce and the spices were great but that't it. Pros: great produce, variety, clean restrooms Cons: filty fish, unsafe food handling, dead fish more

A Culinary Epcot 1/9/2003

This is my favorite tourist attraction to bring out of town guests. If you are stumped on what to cook for a dinner party that has to be special - this is your place. With its plethera of exotic tastes, scents and sounds - if you enjoy the unusual, you will continue to come back for more. I am crazy for this place! Pros: Unusual Produce, Great Wines, Yummy Breads Cons: Tight aisles, Long lines more

good choices from the buffet 9/25/2002

i just love the dekalb farmer's market. even the cafeteria offers yummy veggies on their buffet for a very cheap price. highly recommend it. more

if you like to cook please come here 9/3/2002

whenever i have family/friends visiting from out of town i take them to the farmer's market and they are always amazed at the selection, the different fruits and vegetables, and the selection of fruits! Pros: good parking, inexpensive Cons: crowded on weekends more
