Was a great experience 5/11/2010

I am a hair stylist and several of my clients recomended that I try hot yoga at yoga one, after a while I decided tog ive it a try. At first it was hard to find, its in the basment of a little shopping strip on central. You go down some stairs and the etrance is at the bottm. I went to a 3:30 class on a monday which is only 5 dollars, there were only about 12 people in my class so that was nice. The yoga was alot of fun, like every one has been saying it is reall hot, i mean really hot, I have never sweated soo much in my life, my clients warned me though so all morning I had been drinking lots of water andalo took two bottles with me. The class started out slow but then became pretty fast paced. I am in pretty good shape but it was still a very good work out for me. Theclass had all types of people in it, a few old men, the ussual yoga types, and a few women who were a little bigger, I say this because everybody seemedto have a great work out regardlss of there atheletic ability, nothing was wrong with taking a break on some of the harder yoga positions, te teacher was very helpful and I will deffinetly be back, drink lots of water beforehand so that you do not have to worry about dehydration. Also I was very happy to see how clean te showers and bathrooms were. Pros: Friendly staff, very clean Cons: Was a little hard to find more

The real deal! 2/25/2010

I have been practicing yoga for the last 10 years and have yet to find a studio with the engery, expertise and compassion as Yoga One. Great instructors & staff, funky studio... its the real deal. Come prepared to sweat and push yourself to the next level of your practice. Pros: the energy Cons: the crowd- which isn't necessarily a bad thing more

If you can stand the heat... 12/4/2008

I gave Yoga One a solid chance (5 weeks) and could not adjust to the heat. I really liked everything else about the place, the environment was great, though I wasn't crazy about the bright orange paint on the walls, but yoge isn't about interior design. I've read other reviews talking about the classes becoming very repeatitive and I would have to agree. You find yourselves doing many series of the same motions week after week, which after a little while makes you anticipate what the instruction will be and then there becomes a point when you think, why am I paying this person when I know what they will say. \r Regardless, in my own opinion the level of heat in this studio seemed a bit excessive, I don't think you need four space heaters on in the middle of Aug to achieve ""hot yoga"". It may be that hot yoga just isn't for me, but I think if they backed it off a bit, I would have stuck around. Pros: value, good vibe Cons: Excessively hot. Repetitive movements. more

Great studio, hate the heat 8/30/2007

I was so happy to find Yoga One after recently moving to Charlotte. The space is groovy and the teachers are excellent (and they have a cool store). However, the heated room is just too much for me. I understand the rationale behind the heat, but do not personally feel that it increases the yoga practice. In fact, I believe it can actually hinder it by becoming a distraction and also alowing one's muscles to stretch beyond their natural capability. Sadly, the heat is too much of a deterent for me to go back. Pros: great space, great teachers Cons: heat more

Not what it used to be... 8/2/2007

Sadly, I have to agree with Macuden's review. Yoga One is transitioning to an all-Baron-Baptiste format, discontinuing shorter classes and non-Baptiste classes. It's also lost some of its most gifted teachers over the past few months. The result is a very structured, homogenized classes with little variety or diversity. This can lead to burn out and fatigue, especially given the excessive heat in some of the more crowded classes. Needless to say, most classes would not be conducive to beginners or the less-than-athletic. \r It used to be a real haven for yoga addicts. There was enough variety that you could have a solid 4 to 5 day a week practice, with multiple inspiring teachers.\r It's still the most economical studio I've found in Charlotte, and I love the cold lavendar eye towels during Savasana. Pros: Economical, Lavender eye-towels Cons: Overheated, lack of variety, loss of talent more

Used to be great--becoming too commericalized 6/9/2007

I used to love Yoga One and went there religiously. I understand that it is a business, but I sure liked it a lot better when they focused more on yoga and the spiritual side of yoga instead of running a business. It was quaint, safe haven when they first opened, but now I feel they are pusing away a chunk of their clientele by enforcing a certain style of practice and changing class styles and times without consulting existing members. They've lost some great teachers lately and I fear this is the beginning of a downward slide for them. AND BEWARE. . .practicing there during the 40-days of Yoga (September-October) is a nightmare. No parking, crowded classes and overall chaos!! Pros: Cool studio Cons: Limited parking, no 60 minute classes at night, crowded classes more
