Best Chinese Food in the Valley 6/8/2010

My family has been eating here since they opened 20+ years ago. The service is great. The food is better! Our family favorites are Wonton Soup, Eggrolls, House Special Chicken (like orange chicken), BBQ Pork with Chinese Peapods, House Deluxe Chow Mein, and Mandarin Bananas with Ice Cream for dessert. Try these things and I promise you won't be disappointed! Get the dessert even if you're stuffed. I guarantee you'll find room for it! =) Pros: Delicious food, Cheap prices, Good Service more

Big Miss after all these years! 6/7/2009

I have been coming here to eat for at least 10 plus years, which I would say is a long time and I was very disappointed with our last visit. Our food arrived cold, the rice was old and hard. Our meat was not as fresh as it normally would be. I am sad to have to write this review. I am very disappointed after telling so many friends to go there year after year. I know everyone is trying to cut corners these days but the last visit to Wongs with my husband will be the last. Sorry for the truth. I now have to search for a new place anyone have any suggestions? Pros: big selection Cons: food taste old like it is prepared more

Excellent place for great food and the best lunch specials! 3/18/2009

The Wong Jo chicken is incredible. It mixes traditional chinese garlic and ginger spices with the SW flavor of jalepenos for a taste that is out of this world. The staples like Mongolian Beef are also top notch. Cheap lunch specials with free tea are impossible to beat. Always Asians dining in the restaurant, so you know its authentic. Always people in general dining so you know its good. My favorite place in the valley to take people when you want to impress with authentic chinese cuisine, or to bring a new flavor into someone's life, Wong's Place! Pros: Best Lunch Specials, Authentic Menu and Unique Flavors Cons: Not the nicest interior for dates, bathroom needs remodel. more

MORE then love Wongs 1/3/2009

We have been going to Wongs Place since the restaurant opened (almsot 20 years?). We now drive 35+ miles one way at least once a month to have their wonderful food. I don't know who the lady was who didn't like her kung pao. Oh my heavens their kung pao shrimp is the best I've EVER had anywhere....and I'm a retired chef! My son is in town from Boston (great Asian food in Boston) and where does he want to go? You got it, Wong's Place. It IS a small place with aging decor...who cares? Actually at this point in time it's ""retro"". I'm there for the food! more

Wong place for chineese!!! 7/12/2008

I went looking for some good chineese food, what I found was a whole in the wall that has subpar taste and atmosphere. I wasnt looking for anything fancy but the kung pao chicken was way to sweet with no hint of spice - probably the worse i have ever had. I also ordered chicken low mein, although it wasnt bad it was far from chineese. The service was actually pretty good the food was hot and came fairly fast. I hate to give people a bad impression but I think there is a better chineese resturant in Tempe...I just need to find it!!! more

Fast Service 7/25/2007

Wow! I went here for lunch and I swear they they had our food out to us in less then 5 minutes. Service was plesant enough. Really good lunch prices too, I would definitely come here again. Pros: Fast and cheap- excellent food. Cons: Not really fine dining, but I didn't mind. more

Best Chinese restaurant in the valley 7/10/2007

The review below is absurd. Chinese food is not Thai food and it isn't measured by how hot it tastes. In fact, most Chinese food is not spicy with the exception of Schezuan cuisine. This is truly the best Chinese restaurant in the city. It is so authentic that it has two menus, one for Chinese people and one for the rest of us. Even their mainstream menu makes PF Changs taste like burgers and fries. The food is exquisitely prepared and they offer a huge variety of dishes. If you are from San Fransciso and you miss authentic Hong Kong style Chinese food, this is the place to dine. There is no place in the valley that comes close to offering this style of Chinese food with the exception of the restaurants in the Chinese cultural center. Pros: Authenticity, Food, Short waits Cons: Service can be bad, Oily at times more

Highly ordinary 6/24/2006

Ordering a dish ""very hot"" and then having it arrive as mild as a banana does not bode well for a meal, although having some chili on the table to add to it was convenient. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special. Pros: The service was good, and it wasn't pricey Cons: "Very hot" isn't spicy at all more

Splendid authentic food 1/2/2004

While just visiting Phoenix, but also have eaten at many Chinese restaurants, this place is a gem. They have a lot of variety, and even offer a menu with written Chinese, for the mulitudes of Chinese people that seem to eat here. Being a vegetarian, I was very pleased with the offerings of tofu dishes, and my meat eating friend was pleased with his chicken dish. It was quite busy on the weekday night, and we did have to wait a few minutes to be seated. The decor and atmosphere are nothing to rave about, but the food came very quickly despite the crowds, and was excellent in taste. Pros: Quick service, Excellent food, Inexpensive Cons: Popular-is that a con, Poor decor/ambience more

Truly a great taste 10/18/2002

If you can't find anything on this menu, get out. The menu is wonderful, one of the largest I have seen in my 15 years in Phoenix. The seafood is superb. truly my favorite Chinese place in Arizona. more
