West Chester Academy Of Music

From reading some of the other comments here, I am not sure if we are talking about the same place! The quality of teachers are excellent! Some are current active local orchestra members and many have or are pursuing a masters degree in their perspective fields. Both my sons take lessons and the improvement is rather astounding! In only 4 months, the Cello teacher at WCMA was able to correct a year's worth of bad habits that my younger one had developed from another teacher in another music school! The amount of progress and confidence that my older son have with his saxophone teacher is just unparalleled! This is also one of the few places that truly treat everyone the same, adult and children students alike. Both my husband and I take lessons here and it was wonderful not to be brushed aside or have our lesson times bumped for a younger student. We are valued and appreciated for our love to learn music. The staff and instructors alike taught us with equal enthusiasm and encouragement. I highly recommend WCMA to anyone who has the desire to learn an instrument! more

This is the best place ever to take music or even dance lessons!!!! Everyone is so nice and makes you feel so at home. The teachers are great and very qualified. I highly recommend this place. more

Do not send anyone here for music lessons. This is a horrible place for students and teachers alike. There is no regard for advancement of learning or bettering skills. It's merely a place to suck money from your wallet with zero return. There are plenty of far better music schools. Stay away from this breeding ground of less than mediocrity. more

This is a professional music academy with highly-qualified and well-trained teachers and musicians. The quality and quantity of musical knowledge and theory I have gained from my guitar teacher makes it well worth it. If you are looking for a music academy with top-notch teachers, you should start here; they'll set you up for a free sample lesson if you call them. In my experience, the staff has been extremely accommodating and polite when I have needed to reschedule a lesson. When you sign up for lessons, they do require you to sign a policy form that says that when canceling a lesson, you will give them 24 hours notice in order to receive a makeup, even though if you DON'T give 24 hours notice, they'll still try to work out a makeup with you. However, when I signed up, the person who was signing up made this policy very clear. Again...I have never been treated rudely by the people at the front desk, and I have never seen them be rude to anyone who's come in while I'm waiting in the lobby. Oh and by the way, as far as them not allowing their teachers to teach elsewhere, my guitar teacher has told me that he teaches private lessons out of his own home, so such a statement is incorrect. WCAOM is a great place, and all of the staff is courteous and very helpful. When I have children someday, you can bet that they'll all be enrolled! Their scheduling is very difficult and the front desk is rude. The actual teacher my child is with is great. Too bad the teachers are not permitted to do private lessons once they go to work for this place. All three of our children of different ages have been attending the academy since it opened and privately with the owner for many years before that. The quality offered is of the highest standard and when we have needed to reschedule lessons (as is needed with kids) they have always been very flexible and accommodating. They do ask for notice the day before if at all possible but that seems quite reasonable to me. The academy is very professionally run and highly respected, and they are very friendly. There are cheaper places to learn but not of this quality of teaching and care. As is always the case, you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend this academy.
