Started on wrong foot, but ended well 2/15/2009

My wife and I went here for Valentine's because I'd heard good things and the menu on their web site had many interesting dishes. When were seated however, we were informed that they were offering a special prix fixe tasting menu and a limited version of their regular menu. I specifically picked Eatery over other places because they weren't limiting choices on this night. To make it worse, both of the dishes we had our sights on were not being offered. Needless to say, we were both in a bad mood right away. Realizing we would never get in anywhere else without a reservation, we decided to make the best of it, and we're glad we did. We started with the Manchego Cheese Bites. Essentially, fancy cheese curds, but beautifully presented and paired with a delicious quince jam. My wife then had the duck and I had the steak frites. Both were excellent; perfectly cooked and seasoned carefully. The space has a definite french bistro feel that was both elegant and relaxed; perfect for a romantic dinner. Service was excellent, and the chef came around to chat (and was very amusing). Wines by the glass were a little pricey, but bottle prices were good. Like a busy french bistro, tables are close together, so if you're not comfortable with having your conversation overheard and being able to hear others, remember to ask for a booth when making reservations. We ended splitting a deconstructed banana cream ""pie"". We both loved it, and I actually think it was one of the best desserts I'd ever had. All in all, we plan to return so that we can try the full menu. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: Closely spaced tables more

Easy to skip...but don't! 2/24/2008

We have passed up this restaurant numerous times simply due to location. Most eating establishments in Wayzata have a beautiful view of Lake Minnetonka, while this one has a view of Lunds. But please don't let that stop you from trying it! This is undoubtedly one of the top 3 restaurants in the Wayzata area, in my opinion! This place has a very cozy and comfortable neighborhood feel to it. The service is friendly and attentive and the food is wonderful! It is also very family friendly, so feel free to bring the little ones! It's a great place to enjoy a glass of wine and a more gourmet meal as opposed to the typical fried fare most family friendly restaurants offer. I'm sorry we passed this place up so many times, but now intend to go back again and again. A must try! Pros: food, service, family friendly, parking Cons: location/view more

Simply THE Best in Wayzata 12/31/2007

The Chef, the service, the presenation, the wine list, the eclectic, savory selections, the ambiance and the flavors cannot be topped. We LOVE this restaurant and visit as often as we can. Sometimes, we pop in for a glass of fine wine, the variety of selections on the wine list is as refreshing as it is interesting. Try the Petit Verdot, it is a fav. Be sure to introduce yourself to Chef! He is a delight, one of the Twin Cities' top chefs, without a doubt. His expertise and attention to detail is unmatched. His ""Lamb Lollypops"" are a must-try! Oh, and if you decide to skip dessert, this would be a mistake! Give into the temptation, it is sooo worth it! Enjoy the service, it is always friendly and professional. New Year's Eve is a special treat! Be sure to make reservations (which can be made electronically or simply by calling in advance)... the set menu is absolutely so delicious it defies description. Again, attention to detail is everything. We love the coziness as much as we love the cuisine and wine... while it is often crowded, it is never loud, which is important to us. The Wayzata Eatery is simply THE Best dining experience in Wayzata, MN. Pros: Cuisine, ambiance, wine list, parking, service more

Worst restaurant in MN 12/23/2007

Worst restaurant I've been to in MN. I order trout which came with rice. Once I started eating the rice I realized there was bacon in it. Not only do I not eat meat I also keep kosher. When I asked the waitress why the menu didn't state that their was bacon in the rice, she said it was common knowledge that wild rice comes with bacon in it, and that any one that lives in MN knows this. She was very rude, and didn't take the item off the bill. The food was bad anyway, and the service was worst! more
