Often not open for business so take that into consideration 4/9/2011

Rarely open, hard to say if you'll get service, not sure if you'll get surly service or totally cool, and very uneven presentation. Sort of a Cinema Paridiso in reverse or more like playing the lottery. I will say that should you actually get to see the movie, the auditoriums have good sound and reasonably good projection. more

Excelent theater! 1/4/2009

I grew up in Westwood CA, which is where movies premiers are shown and are renowned as the best theaters in the country. I've traveled extensively and since I'm a movie buff I have sat in many theaters around the country/world. I moved to Dallas in Feb. 2008 and was referred to this theater by my girlfriend. At first, it was hard to find the theater since it's tucked away behind a bank and was hard to see. As I and my children entered the theater, the manager greeted us and asked which movie we?d like to see. I told him and he promptly made change and handed me the tickets. He then ran over to the concession stand and asked if we?d like popcorn, candy or a drink. I ordered a large popcorn and a drink. As he handed me the drink, he told me that he'd make the popcorn fresh for me and he'd bring it to me at my seat. The movie started and the manager quickly brought the popcorn to me, fresh, hot and cooked perfectly. As I watched the movie, I noticed that the sound was amazing inside the theater. The surround sound was as good as or better than I had heard before in much larger and much more expensive theaters around the country. When the movie was finished and I was exiting, the manager told me thank you for coming and to come again. I have since seen all the new release movies at this theater. This theater is better than the large chains since each person gets personal attention. Secondly, the sound system is second to none, especially in the Dallas area. Lastly, the manager operates the projector, sells the tickets and operates the concession stand all by himself. Amazing! Pros: New releases, fresh popcorn, affordable, open parking, personal service, customer service Cons: Location hard to see more

DFW'S BEST HIDDEN JEWEL! 1/3/2009

I have been going to this Theatre for a couple of years now. The first time I went there,I was kind of skeptical. It is hidden behind a bank, looks somewhat run down, and doesn't have the most up to date renovations..I have heard people say that they are scared of the neighborhood,or it looks unsafe! Not True at all! I take my kids there alone often, and never feel unsafe. I am a mom of 4 kids, the prices were just right for us,so we went in. Man,am I glad that I did. This theater has one of the best sound systems that I have ever heard! I am by no means an expert, but even I could notice the difference between this small theatre and a large chain! I still go to this theatre every time we go to a movie. We drive across town, because we enjoy this place so much. I do not think that the manager is rude,or has bad customer service. He has always been very cordial to my family, and I have referred all of my friends here. Please take into consideration, that this is a family owned and operated theatre. He is pretty much a one man show,so don't get upset if it takes him a little longer to get that drink for you, you will be glad that you took the time to try this place out! I think it is worth the drive! He always has New Releases, and makes the popcorn fresh everytime. Yes, you will have to wait like 5 mins to get it,but that is worth him taking the time to pop it fresh, and hand deliver it to your seat! I promise you will not be disappointed in this Theatre! Pros: Fresh Popcorn, amazing sound system, good parking, price more

Best Popcorn, Best Sound, Great Value 8/14/2008

I read the other reviews and those people must be crazy. I have been going to Walnut Theater for years. The manager is always polite but very brief. He handles the entire operation himself and does not have much time to be social. The popcorn is always less than 2 hours old or he throws it out. Many times he pops it after I go into the theater and brings it to me and the other customers while it is piping hot! This theater shows new releases and has the best sound of any theater in Texas. The parking lot always has open spaces. All movies are ONLY $5 for new releases! The place is always open when it is supposed to be. The board out front shows what is currently playing and when the movie starts. The manager appreciates it if you can show up at least 15 minutes before start time so he has a little leeway to get everything set up in the projector room. The only problem I have ever had is that the theater is tucked behind the bank and the flea market on Walnut east of Jupiter street. Nobody bothers you at the theater, you are safe. more

Extemely poor customer service 7/9/2008

When a friend and I entered the theater the manager rudely approached us and asked ""what do you want?"" Startled, we asked to purchase tickets for a movie showing. He replied, again rudely, that the movie was not being shown there. He said scoldingly it was an old movie, and it wasn't there anymore. When we informed him that the movie was not only listed on the internet at his theater, but just that morning the phone message indicated it was there, he abruptly waved us off and said we were wrong. We stood there in shock for a moment then left. This was my first and last visit to this theater. Though the price is reasonable, the poor customer service is not worth the savings. I would rather pay more and get treated with respect. Neither I nor any of my friends will give this theater our business, and we will spread the word about the extremely poor customer service. Apparently the manager does not realize the importance of treating every customer courteously. more

Terrific first-run movies for unbelievable ticket prices!!! 2/18/2008

If you like to support family-owned, family-run businesses - this may be one for you. This theater may be small, but the customer service is outstanding. They offer first-run movies with one of the best sound systems to be found anywhere in the metroplex. Pricing will fit anyone's budget - particularly when compared to the larger theaters showing first-run films. A small, but adequate snack bar is available to satisfy your need for movie munchies. This is definitely a case of ""don't judge a book by its cover"" - while this theater has been around for many years, the current owner/management team works hard to provide an outstanding movie-going experience for their patrons. Pros: Great customer service, pricing, first-run movies more

Worst Customer Service 5/7/2007

My family was looking for a movie theater playing SpiderMan 3. We drove up to Walnut Theater and the parking lot was empty. My 15 year old son got off and asked the manager if they were opened. The manager replied ""What does the sign say""? My son answered, ""It says SpiderMan 3"". The manager said, ""Well, then?"" ""That is a stupid question, isn't it""? My son walked back to our car. My husband got off and wanted to speak to the manager. The manager went upstairs and never came down. Very bad service from a foreign person who doesn't know that Customer Service is very important in the United States. Not to mention the respect we owe our children. The theater stank like a mixture of incense and urine. more
