The most awesome place for repairs 6/15/2009

We were first introducted to Wallace's by the Chrysler dealer. Their service department, which was very good, couldn't figure out why our car wouldn't run properly. The Chrysler people charged a small fortune, and were unable to fix the problem. We took their advice and had the car TOWED to Wallace Auto Electric. Lester, Steve, and the rest of the staff were extremely thorough and were able to fix the car. Two Chyrsler dealers had been ready to give up on it. Lester's employees went through the wiring to find out what the problem was, and were able to repair it. All the Chrysler dealers were able to suggest was to replace the car, which was ridiculous since it's in great condition, other than the electrical/computer issue which has now been resolved thanks to Wallace's Auto Electric's superb service. Everyone has been extremely polite and helpful and we can't thank them enough. I can't imagine anyone having any type of problem there - we always hear about extremely satisfied customers. We have both our cars serviced there - they do just about everything. I've used many local service areas and you won't find a better place, or nicer people. They're truly awesome. Pros: local auto dealers recommend when they're stumped Cons: Absolutely none more

Blatantly and Shamelessly Dishonest 6/28/2008

My car wouldn't start and the battery had just been replaced. A friend jump-started it for me and told me it sounded like the alternator was the problem. Drove it to Advance Auto where the excellent staff performed a FREE diagnostic test confirming that my alternator was shot. Jump-started it again and drove it to nearby Wallace's for repair. Told them it simply needed to have the alternator replaced. When they finished the repair, the cost was higher than I expected and included a DIAGNOSTIC fee of $75.00 even though no diagnostic was needed (or done, I strongly suspect). I tried explaining why this didn't seem right to me since I had already had the problem diagnosed before bringing it to them but they were impervious to reason. They would not even consider removing this unecessary and blatantly dishonest charge. First and last experience with this company. But NOT the last time I will share my awful experience with them with other un-suspecting potential customers. more

I'd avoid this shop. 4/9/2007

I needed to replace a poorly functioning fan on my car; a straightforward repair so I decided to try Wallace's for convenience. They diagnosed the problem correctly, but told me I'd need to wait several days for the part, so I asked them to put the car back together so I could use it until the part arrived. The estimate seemed high, so I called another trusted shop for a price that came in much lower. I called in to cancel the repair at Wallace's and scheduled it at the other garage. I paid Wallace's $90+ for the diagnosis and took my car. On the drive from Wallace's to the other garage, my car filled with the smell of burning plastic; somehow, the wires to my faulty part had been shorted. When I picked up my car from the reputable shop, the mechanic said it took him a long time to figure out that the control cables to the fan had been crossed rendering the controls useless. It is apparent to me that these two additional problems were created by Wallace's ""diagnosis"". Still, after paying for Wallace's ""diagnosis"", after paying the second shop to have the fan replaced, the shorted out wiring replaced, and the crossed control cables straightened out, the total cost of the repair still came out less than Wallace's estimate. Next time, I'll just steer clear of Wallace's. Pros: Courteous staff. Cons: High prices. Incompetence. more

poor customer service! 6/5/2003

I picked Wallace's at random to look over two simple problems I had -- my AC wasn't blowing cold and my rear window wouldn't quite go all the way up. They gave me a $1200 quote, which seemed high, so I told them not to do the work -- I wanted a second opinion. I went to pick up my car and was hit with a $120 bill just for the diagnosis! I've since had both problems fixed by TAO auto in Raleigh for a total of $172.95! Worse, Wallace's left my car's windows down overnight in the rain. The interior was soaked and musty, and Wallace's should have paid to shampoo the interior carpet in compensation. They refused to take responsibility. Overall, a shockingly bad experience for a first-time customer. I won't be going back. Cons: expensive, inaccurate, unaccomodating more

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! 2/18/2003

I RECENTLY HAD MY VEHICHLE WORKED ON AT WALLACE'S. THEY SOLD ME A PART I HAD REPLACED JUST 2 DAYS PRIOR. WHEN I CONFRONTED THE OWNER/MANAGER ABOUT THE UNNECCESARY CHARGE, HE SAID MY PART WAS ""BROKEN"" AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED FOR THE BROKEN PART BACK. MUCH TO MY DISMAY, THE ""BROKEN"" PART WORKED JUST FINE. AFTER CATCHING THEM IN THEIR LIE, THEY STILL REFUSED TO GIVE ME A REFUND. Cons: DISHONEST more
