To get the real deals get on his email list and enjoy the best prices in the area on wines from sub-$10 90 pt wines on up to high end Bordeaux wines. This store is in no way convenient for me but I will not patronize another wine store. more

Well... almost. Hoyt is as close to being a Master Sommelier as most of us will ever meet. One of the many benefits of purchasing your wine from this store will be knowing its owner, Hoyt Hill, and hearing his great stories. One of Hoyt's many entertaining tales is one about his experience taking the Master Sommelier exam. And while he is not one of the few 170 or so individuals who carry this title, he might as well be. The man has devoted his life to fine wine and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Mosel, Piedmont, and Tuscan wines, to name a few. I respect his opinion and recommendations above anyone else I know. But don't just go here for Leroy and DRC Burgundies, first growth Bordeaux, and a great selection of late harvest Riesling. Email Hoyt with special requests and he will search at length to meet your needs. And join the email list and learn for yourself that you will have access to Nashville's best prices on sub-$10 bottles with ratings 90+. And please, if you walk in the store and ask for a suggestion for a bottle of wine, be sure to take this man seriously because he knows more about wine than most people in the Southeast. I've recommended Village Wines and Hoyt Hill to many friends and anyone who ask where to buy wine in Nashville. Granted, it may not be pretty, but the reviews are right on, the tastings better than any shop in town and their word - they walk the talk. Not only do they provide tons of information and service they truly represent the best of Nashville. Hoyt gives back to our community and the charities that matter to many Nashvillians. And by the way, it is extremely rare when the juice on the inside doesn't match the review. In those rare occassions, they stand by their word. more

The reason this small wine store sells more than all the others is because they work so hard to provide what people want. Tell them what types of wines you like and ask to be put on their email list. The emails are many and interesting. If you want a great case of wine for $4.50/bottle, check your emails long enough and it will be there. If you want a rare but expensive case to add to your cellar collection, there is no better place in Tenn. to shop. They are serious about making the consumer happy no matter what the price point. Best selection of California, French, Italian, Spanish and pretty good S. American and Australian (for Greek, check out West Meade Liquors). more

My bosses boss introduced me to Village Wines about five years ago. I have been a faithful follower since. Hoyt and his crew have turned me on to some spectacular wine, and are always helpful. Looking for a good Chat, Hoyt has it, want a $15.00 bottle to impress friends with on Thursday Night, Hoyt has it. Want an 81 Burgundy, well you can find that from Hoyt as well. Always educating and pushing my wine experience further. Best wine store in the city, bar none. more

First of all, I go to Hoyt because wine is his passion...with decades of experience to back it up. Secondly, Hoyt makes me feel like I'm the only customer he's thinking about. If I ask for something that's not in the store, he'll bust his tail to locate an inexpensive wine ...just as he will for something at the higher end..and usually have it by the next day. He always gives me the feeling that nothing is too much trouble. more

I'm not a wine expert but I like good wines. Hoyt and his staff provide me guidance for wines to pair with whatever I tell them I'm preparing plus when I go to City House they suggest a wine to take. for that style food. I've been buying wine from him since he opened Village Wines. Hoyt provided wine suggestions when he was with Julian's, Wild Boar and F. Scott's.......that means he has been my ""taste Buds"" for 27 years. more

I switched to this store a year ago after trying many others. If you sign up for email, you get a ton of deals by the case and by the bottle (almost every day...). I read the 1 and 2 star reviews and can honestly say I have not seen any behavior of that type at Village Wines. more

I never shop in any wine store but Village Wines, and have always enjoyed the shopping and the drinking. I like to get Hoyt's emails, and usually use them to buy my wines in advance. I was very excited the other evening to also discover that they now carry my favorite mezcal. When I tell Hoyt I need a $12 bottle, he points me in that direction. If I want to spend more, he works with my budget there, too. Knowing Hoyt has been a great wine education. more

I moved to NAshville about a year ago. I walked into Village Wines looking for a new place to buy wine (I'm mostly a retail customer). The guys there were great - they found me 4 wonderful bottles under $20 each, and I had a great intro to Nashville. Fast forward 8 months, and a friend asks me if I'd like a connection to a great wine buyer who can help a tyro sort out the good stuff from the dreck. I'm a busy person - no time to become a wine pro along with everything else, so I said 'sure'. This was my introduction to Hoyt Hill, proprietor of Village Wines, and his email service. Since then I've had bottle after bottle of great wine. It's gotten to the point that when he sends me a recommendation for something I think I'll like, I just say ""sure, I'll take a few"". A completely satisfying approach, resulting in a growing collection, friends (and spouse) who think I'm a wine genius, and a lot of personal satisfaction. But there's more: Hoyt organizes tastings at local fine restaurants (a blast). AND, he is usually to be found at charity fundraisers, carrying the torch by donating wine. In the interest of full disclosure, I've been doing business with Hoyt for years. The reason Hoyt is my ""go to guy"" when it comes to wines is that he takes pride in my wine cellar collection. I have wines that I purchased on his recommendation that are simply the best. He tells me when to drink them, how to drink them, and when to share them with him over a good dinner. Hoyt also knows how to throw a great wine tasting party-I still have the remnants of grass stains on my forehead from the last go around. Get to know this guy-you will walk away with some real gems that are VERY reasonably priced. more

There's not a better wine shop in town, particularly if you want to buy high quality wine at true value prices. It's easy to over spend in a market where there are countless choices for wines. I used to be one of those people that felt I had to hit higher price points to get great wine. Not true! You need the advice of someone who truly knows the wine business and takes pride in passing that knowledge along to his customers. Hoyt is as good as it gets in this business......I've never been disappointed with his recommendations and can't imagine buying anywhere else. If you know wine you'll enjoy Hoyts' insight on the subject. If you don't, you owe it to yourself to get to know him and his staff. I have been going to Village Wine for a couple of years now and it has become my favorite wine store in Nashville. The personnel is great and very knowledgeable about wine. Their email list gives you the best wine deals in town and you know you can buy what they sell without any risk of being disappointed. I have read the different reviews and was astonished by the two reviews about the cursing. I don't know what happened that day but I have never witnessed such behavior from any of the people working there. In the contrary they always have been very polite, even carrying my purchases to my car. Thank you Hoyt for the service. I appreciate doing business with you. more

I'm always excited to be on Hoyt Hill's email list and receive information about exceptional wines with discounted prices. This makes shopping for wine so simple because I know I'm getting the best wines for the best prices in Nashville. Besides all that, Hoyt Hill continues year after year to support Vanderbilt University, scholarships, the Baseball team and many other fundraising functions in town. He donates wine to all of these functions, he auctions his own gourmet dinners at his lovely home, and he shares his great heart with his customers and anyone in need. I'm fairly new to wines, and Hoyt has been great about recommendations for wines I might like. I joined the email list several months ago and have landed some real gems that way, and have also grown in my appreciation of wine. On several occasions I also learned of wines through friends, or dining out and all it took on my part to secure some of those wines for myself was to ask Hoyt if he had any. If he did, great. Unless Robert Parker is your next-door neighbor, it would be difficult to find a higher level of wine expertise than Hoyt Hill at Village Wines. Constantly finding rare offerings at great prices. Makes me look like a genius to my friends, which is no easy task!\r My budget may be the tightest of any of his clients, but he constantly fields my ""cheap, amazing and immediate"" requests with wines that I didn't know, couldn't find elsewhere, and are precisely what I was looking for. There is a lot of wine in this world. Trying to sort through the value and quality in this mass of grapes can be vexing even for the educated. Hoyt Hill at Village Wines does just that for me. If I am looking for value wines for a party or everyday consumption he can point me to splendid values that taste like champions. When I want to stash away some good Bordeaux he has it or can get it. His relationships with wineries are worldwide and world class. Sign up for his e-mails and discover little wineries with big taste, values on gems and access to many wines you will only find on restaurant lists. Amazing that Nashville has a resource like this hidden in Hillsboro Village and there still isn't the need for traffic cops to control the masses lining up for the best value and quality in wines. more
