Giving them time 11/16/2008

Time will tell, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on our deposit. It's a shame about the fire, the place truly is beautiful. Hopefully they will be back on their feet soon Pros: Views, food Cons: Management, customer service, professionalism more

Great service, incredible food, amazing location 10/5/2008

My first vist was for a wedding in July. UNBELIEVABLE. Stunning, stunning view. Never have I had food at a function that came close to this, it was better than most high end a la carte meals we have had this year. We have since gone back for lunch, brunch and dinner and everything was just as close to perfect as it probably gets in the area. \r \r The wait staff are excellent. Knowlegeable, warm, caring, attentive but unobtrusive. We did have to wait longer than I like for our brunch server to come and take our order but the food was well worth the wait. The building is lovely and I was delighted when the manager told me we could tour the bedrooms because they are beautiful. We went again for our anniversary dinner. Wonderful cocktails. We chose a six course wine-paired menu and had great pairings on all but one course and truly excellent food for every course. Better than great really and I am almost shocked I didn't know this place existed until a few months ago but now I understand why it is booked out so much - this place redefines perfection. Pros: Good service, great food, amazing views Cons: Overpriced light weight wine list more

Best Romantic Get-away - Feels like you really got away but it is so easy to get to! 5/20/2008

My husband and I just got back from an amazing night away. We started our afternoon by taking a leisurely drive up the Gorge - only about 30 min away from PDX. We checked in, relaxed in the beautifully appointed Roosevelt suite and then after a quick visit to the delightlful chicken coop!, we took a leisurely walk in the country enjoying the fresh air and pastoral setting. We then changed for dinner and were seated at a window seat so that we might enjoy the breath-taking view of the city. Dinner was fantastic - truly gourmet - with attentive yet relaxed service. We thoroughly enjoyed our carrot soup and steak dinners followed by scrumptious blue cheese cheesecake and tiramisu. Following this, we retired to our room, described nicely above by another review and I second the lovely decor, cleanliness and note the L'Occitane-brand toiletries. We particularly enjoyed the lack of phone and TV in our room and after a restful sleep and run in the hills, were greeted with our complimentary breakfast in the main dining room - freshly baked scones - delicate on the inside and buttery crispness on the outside, fresh tarts, beautifully prepared and presented fruits, fresh-squeezed OJ and coffee. Fantastic!! It was hard to leave and we'll be back again. PS - We celebrated our wedding reception here 9 years ago and it remains one of the memorable details of that day as well! more

Incredible Gourmet Experience! 3/23/2008

The View Point Inn is truly an experience to be had. The food is outstanding, the staff is incredibly personable and friendly. They are keen to educate you on the food, as well as wine selection. We tried the prix fixe Chef's choice menu and were seriously blown away! It's a great way to try many of the wonderful dishes and flavors offered at The View Point Inn... including an incredible dessert! Our server, Willie was super friendly; he and the rest of the staff gave us some of the best serves we have received anywhere. We celebrated my sister's birthday and it was fantastic for us all! You owe it to yourself to try The View Point Inn! Even if it's just to stop in and see the beautiful decor and enjoy a glass of wine with the sunset. A true Northwest gem! Pros: Food, service, decor, view, ambience, parking, great place to celebrate Cons: Spendy, not your every day restaurant more

Pefect food, service, and ambiance! 3/19/2008

My fiance and I recently had a spectacular dinner at the View Point Inn. We had a perfect evening that really could not have been any nicer. The food was sensational, featuring local organic produce and meats (not to mention the desserts) prepared by an extremely talented executive chef and staff. The service was impeccable, both gracious and personable - we were treated so well! The ambiance is wonderful, with an elegant casual dining room and gorgeous view of the gorge. Our experience was wonderful and we look forward to many repeat visits! Pros: Beautiful inn/ dining room, delicious food, great service. more

Best Romantic Experience 2/17/2008

We just returned from one of the most romantic and relaxing experiences of our lives. We spent one night in the Roosevelt Suite (with a fireplace, sitting/dinning area, private bathroom w/clawfoot tub, and an amazing view of the gorge well worth the extra money), had a first class dinner in their rustic (as in fireplace and hard wood floors) yet refined dinning room with an amazing view of the gorge. The trip would have been well worthwhile if it were just for the excellent meal; but the room took this experience to the next level. Really, writing about it in City Search doesn't do it justice. It was beyond clean, the bed was perfectly comfortable and the claw foot tub (shower too) was large enough to stretch all the way out. In the sitting room there was a dinning table where you can order a private dinner when you prefer (nice just to have the option at a small boutique hotel such as this), and a leather chaise lounge to watch the sunset or the open brick fireplace from. There was plenty of wood for the evening and the staff lit it for us at our request. The dinner, room, and first class service would have been enough to make this a perfect weekend get away for two; but then the staff indicated that the Suite included a full Sunday Bruch as well! Needless to say we will be back within the year and will recommend this to one and all. And to think that this was our second choice to Timberline! Ha, The View Point Inn was better in every way and to top it off even less expensive. This will be our first choice from now on. more

Driven by a million times, but not any more 1/30/2008

I've driven between portland and hood river a million times, not realizing there is a restaurant tucked in right behind the vista house..if you have been to the columbia gorge hotel or multnomah falls, those are nice...but there is something new to the area you should try. Great food and service, nicer view (you're up high). Only a 3 minute drive off of 1-84...easy to stop off if you like to hike the gorge...I like the brunch- corned beef hash, delicous- eggs benedict with tiny scallops. Best brunch I've had in a really long time- even the hot chocolate is terrific here. Pros: brunch menu is awesome more

This is real food 1/30/2008

Ok, other reviews make this place sound like high end, ""foodie"" food. My wife likes to take me places that have ""that"" kind of food, but I always end up feeling like the only man in the joint. The View Point is different. It's the kind of place that the foodies will love, but I don't care about that. I want good steak, and other great meats- Matt, the chef, definately has that covered. I don't care about free range, organic, and stuff like that, but it must make a difference because food has flavor like none other. I would eat here instead of the great steak houses Portland has to offer- the flavor is better, the service is great, and the atmosphere is not uptight- just great food and service. Pros: great food Cons: wish it was closer to the west side more

This is THE Place for Valentines Day 1/30/2008

My husband just took me here for my anniversary- what a great location, and a break from fighting traffic in Portland. Take yourself for a beautiful drive up the gorge, and treat yourself to the Columbia river views, the Vista House, and end at The View Point Inn for dinner, lunch or brunch! This is a special treat type of place, food you thought you would never order turns out to be the best thing you have ever tasted. You will love the small personal feel of the View Point Inn, carefully restored - looks old, but comfortable and a view like none other. If you live on the eastside (gresham, etc) this is such a great place for dinner on a week night, if you are tired of the gresham metro area. There is no detail left undone, right down to the presentation of dessert- get the carmel brownie with lemon curd, you will be in heaven! more

Best food, view, and chef in Oregon 1/30/2008

If you haven't already heard, Matt the Chef is amazing. The View Point has a beautiful setting overlooking the gorge - fantastic grounds and a wonderful real wood burning fire place inside. Matt takes simple ingredients and makes you want to lick the plate they are so good! Recommended: onion soup & any pork entree. The desserts are to die for. This is gourmet food, not large chain (and large portion) food- so if you like a unique setting and delicious food, I highly recommend it. It's also nice that you don't have to go downtown to get a great meal...relaxed environment and terrific food & views- what could be better? Pros: Great views, great food- very small hotel side Cons: I wish I could afford to eat here once a week! more

Beautiful, Romantic, Delightful 12/10/2007

We celebrated my husbands birthday recently at The View Point Inn and it was by far the best evening out we have had in a long time. We always go out for birthdays and usually attempt to try a new restaurant. The View Point Inn by far was the best. The service was exceptional, starting with being met at the door outside and shown inside. Our wait staff was great, very friendly, there when you needed or wanted them but not intrusive at all, the perfect service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list, which was extensive and varied, which is always nice. The food was incredible, prepared perfectly, served elegantly. We were seated by the windows, and even though it was dark the view was great with the lights across the river and down the gorge. We were also invited to tour the rooms that were open and they are beautiful. I will be making reservations to stay for our 25th anniversary this year. We will be going back soon also, for both dinner and to try the brunch and lunch. I would highly recommend The View Point Inn for any and all occasions. Pros: Beautiful facility, great service, ample parking more

Elegant and romantic dining 11/16/2007

My boyfriend suprised me by stopping here for dinner one night not long after they opened, and it is definately an experience to savor. The grounds are well kept and the view is spectacular. We didn't have a reservation, but they accomodated us. Also, they let us know that they do catering for larger groups as well. We are looking at taking the car club out there later on. They will serve burgers and such for events like that when large groups want to keep costs down, but you simply have to go there and dine when you want a quiet and wonderful experience. The meals are delightful and elegantly served. Our waitstaff were also very good at offering top notch customer service. Pros: Service and wonderful food. Cons: You won't want to rush this experience. make time to enjoy yourself. more
