Total letdown! High prices and good environment but my pork tenderloin wrapped in proscuioto was like licking a salt block. It was tough and so salty I couldn't finish it. For ...

Delicious! 11/12/2010

In the search for a great Italian restaurant in ATL we found Valenza. No wait on a Friday night, although I bet that will change as word gets out, good service (maybe a little too efficient, had food before we had even finished our first glass of wine), delicious pasta. I ordered the Papparedelle and it was amazing. The spaghettini (spaghetti and meatballs) was not as good, mainly because the sauce was a little too simple and not very tomatoey. Wine selection was good. We didnt get a salad but we saw many to other tables that looked fresh and yummy. We will definately come back here. more

Great Upscale Dining in Brookhaven 8/8/2009

We started out at the bar and had a great time tasting a couple of wines before deciding on a bottle of Newton. The bartender (I didn't catch his name) was knowledgeable and a joy to talk with. He was not only enthusiastic about the wine but also about the food and described his favorite dishes in loving detail to us. By the time we got to our table the choices were easy. The waiter, I think his name was Chris, was also great and made our experience memorable. His timing was impeccable and we didn't feel the least bit rushed during the entire dinner. The food was amazing! Based upon the description from the bartender, we started out with the cozze which was delicious and the perfect size for us to share. For the main course my wife had the agnolotti and I had the risotto. Both were succulent and would recommend them to anyone without reservation. I especially enjoyed the scallops as they were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Dessert was a surprise as the bartender convinced us that whatever he picked out for us we would love and he was right! The ricotta zeppole was a dessert we will both remember for a long time, fantastic! Pros: Excellent wine list and top notch service more

Best gnocchi's! 2/7/2009

In a town which lacks good Italian restaurants, I was very happy to find valenza. Everything we've ordered has been great and service is consistent. My fav is the gnocchis. Seriously, you don't get it this good outside of italy. Best of all, the chef will make me gorgonzola sauce to go with it. I'm in heaven. All of you that think Gnocchi is a piece of dough with sauce, go eat the real deal at Valenza. Pros: gnocchis! Cons: Small space. Make reservation. more

Don't Bother! 12/7/2008

Total letdown! High prices and good environment but my pork tenderloin wrapped in proscuioto was like licking a salt block. It was tough and so salty I couldn't finish it. For prices that high, the food needs to be better. Hubby had a pasta dish that was average at best. Not worth the money!! Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Food is not good more

Outstanding Italian! 3/14/2008

I must disagree with the last review, as I find dining at Valenza to be a wonderful experience. I have been into the restaurant a number of times since it opened and have always had a marvelous time. The service and the food have never been anything other than magnificent, and the staff has gone above and beyond to please. The owner is extremely welcoming, and he maintains a constant presence in the restaurant that contributes to the unique ambiance. I have recommended Valenza to all of my family and friends, and have gotten nothing but thanks for the good recommendation. Trust me, Valenza will exceed your expectations. Pros: food, ambience, service, more

Not recommended. Although the food isn't too bad, service and general attention to customers is poor. 2/23/2008

I had a very disappointing evening at Valenza. They seem much more interested in moving people through the restaurant than in making the evening a memorable one. This is too bad as it would seem to have much going for it. When I complained about the poor service and treatment, the Manager (allegedly the owner) was unapologetic and unconcerned. Needless to say, I will never return nor will I ever recommend this restaurant to others. Indeed, I found the manager's response to be so offensive that I will probably recommend that people not go. Food isn't bad - actually pretty good - but the overall attitude of the management and staff is such that it makes what could have been a pleasant evening memorable in that I will now never return. Indeed, my memory will be one of very poor service and treatment. THINK TWICE before going to this restaurant. There are many better places to spend an evening. Pros: food is pretty good Cons: rushed through the meal; poor service and poor treatment by management more

Excellent in Every Way! 11/21/2007

While I can't articulate as poetic a review as my 2 predecessors, I can say that I wholeheartedly agree that this is an excellent neighborhood restaurant. The grilled calamari (almost impossible to find in the fried food mecca that is The South) is fantastic, and the orecchiette (with sausage, rabe, chili) had exactly the right sausage-to-pasta ratio with just the right amount of chili ""kick, "" enhanced, of course, by a glass of Barbara Di Asti vino. The wine selection is great and wines by the glass are reasonably priced (compared to other restaurants in their catagory). The best part? They actually FILL the glass ABOVE halfway! A great place for a first date, a 100th date, or for a few friends who just want to catch up and have a great meal. Pros: Both bar and table seating, nice atmoshphere, nice food and wine selection Cons: I wish I lived closer to it! more

Excellent Neighborhood Italian 9/10/2007

We went on a double date to Valenza after seeing them featured on DailyCandy. We made reservations at 7:30pm on Friday night, and were promptly seated despited the growing crowd and long line of cars waiting for valet service. Romantic ambience was created with candlelight and a feeling of coziness. We started with a couple of appetizer salads which were delicious. I had the 'mista' and it had a great balsamic vinaigrette that was the perfect proportion to the amount of mixed greens served. I tried the butternut squash ravioli, and was instantly in love with the place. They were delicately wrapped, and the flavor was spot on. It was so delicious I was tempted to order another plateful. Everyone at the table also cleaned off their plates, so their dishes must have been really good too. We finished our dinner with an order of the hazelnut torte, which was spectacular. The ganache was so thick and rich and the bottom layer had a great texture that resembled wafers with a sparing use of walnuts. It was the perfect dessert concoction. I have to mention that the service was also superb. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. The owner also stopped by to ask about our dinner. We'll definitely be back, though judging by the amount of people that had filled the place, we're definitely going to need to make reservations next time. Pros: Ambience, Food Cons: Not enough parking, must valet more

Very Cozy Italian Village Cafe In Brookhaven! Excellent Chef Menu! 9/5/2007

The very nice couple who brought us Haven in Brookhaven, have done it again with Valenza. And this place is romantic with stucco walls, hardwood plank floors, and a warm glow of candelight. And Chef Matt Swickerath, formerly of the Ritz-Carlton, has created a rustic menu of delights. We could not resist the Fritto Misto to start. Perfect pieces of calamari, prawns, halibut, lemon, capers and parley, with a wonderful aioli. The taste buds were throbing at this point. I had the Pesce Spada, which is a grilled Swordfish w/Blood Orange, Grapefruit, over fennel greens. Unbeliebeable, with the blended flavors. My date had the Ossobuco-the Veal Shank was fall off the bone, w/saffron risotto. And spreading that bone marrow over the bread, was pure heaven. The wine list, our wonderful server, and this menu-made an evening to remember. Crowds will be coming here soon! Pros: Excellent Chef Driven Menu! Rustic, Romantic and Just Terrific! Swordfish Is Wonderful! Cons: Could Eat Here Every Night! Very Dangerous! more
