What can I say, I think this place has deteriorated. In the past years Id seen it as a very popular, humane, and attentive office who had a clientele that included exotic animals...

Never Again 12/13/2010

I've been going there for years and while the vets are competent their prices are just HIGHWAY ROBBERY. They nickel and dime you for everything, and run a lot of overpriced tests. When I brought my pet in with a fungal infection and they charged me $400 just for the tests and diagnosis, I almost choked. Then they gave me the medicine to put on him, a simple anti-fungal that said "cures jock itch" and you can buy in any drugstore for $2 -- and charged me $25 for it!! That was the *last straw*. \r I will no longer be ripped off by these crooks. And aside from the senior vets there, every time I went there a number of vets had changed...looks like they can't hold on to their employees either. more

WARNING!!! VCA SCAM 8/30/2010

DO NOT FALL FOR FREE INITIAL VISIT COUPON! I went for the first time to VCA with a coupon in hand (for an annual wellness check for my two year old BT) and ended up with a $500 bill! Although kind, the vet wanted to run endless tests on my "bright eyed, happy guy"--- they took skin scrapings, glaucoma and eye fluid tests, an entire panel of blood, urine, fecal tests---all came out negative (surprise!) They also scared me into giving my dog heartworm meds---within twelve hours, my dog had uncontrollable watery bowel movements and lameness in his hind legs! I brought him back to VCA, where I saw another doctor and was told that it was not an allergic reaction to the meds. It was a most likely an orthopedic issue, perhaps a slipped disk... he would need to take more diagnostic tests, xrays, etc. I took my dog and RAN! The next day, my dog started to walk on his hind legs and seems back to his spunky self (diarreah has still not cleared up.) My suggestion, be cautious of this place---their M.O. is to get you in and then scare you into letting them take expensive, often needless tests, on your beloved pets---and walk out feeling used, ripped off and angry at yourself for falling for the VCA scam! more

WE <3 VCA BURBANK 3/23/2010

When we brought our beloved Jedi to VCA Burbank, we knew something was wrong but didn't know what. Jedi had always been active and vibrant and suddenly started taking a turn for the worst physically. My previous vet, who meant no harm, simply said, he's getting older, it's probably arthritis- keep him on the Rimadyl. Dr. Marcus recommended, after spending a few quality moments with us, that blood work should be done as well as xrays. I had heard rave reviews about adequan, the shot given to horses to rebuild joint fluid. We found that kidney levels were high so took him off the Rimadyl , changed his diet , and began the adequan treatments. Xrays showed no dysplasia.\r After 5 wks his health and weight declined, despite temporary response to the Adequan. Rechecking his blood work proved that indeed it was his kidneys that were failing. My husband and I were devastated in coming to the realization that it was time to end his suffering. After researching what we could with the help of the more

Do not take your pets to this place! 1/7/2010

I wish I could give this place no stars. They over medicate, over charge and have misdiagnosed so many dogs. My good friends dog had to have her leg amputated because they did not properly treat her. Now in better hands at least she is still alive no thanks to VCA Burbank. Please please take your pets somewhere else. more

VCA Animal Hospital MAY RISK YOUR PETS LIFE!!! 1/4/2010

PLEASE READ THIS FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR OWN PET. Turbo had been mis-diagnosed by VCA Animal Hospital in Burbank, CA. She had a neurological problem that the vet missed, and chose to ignore my numerous calls regarding my concern for her behavior (losing balance, tripping, panting, pacing, walking in circles). The vet proceeded to put her under general anesthetic for a dental cleaning and to extract 1 abscessed tooth, she pull 10 of her teeth out (I regret giving them the okay to do what they felt was necessary, I sure wasn?t expecting it to go from 1 to 10 teeth!), without giving antibiotics prior to the surgery, over medicated her with other pills (TURBO WAS 16 YEARS OLD BTW). After the surgery her symptoms worsened. Again, the vet disregarded several calls afterwards. Five days later, the vet agrees to see her, evaluates her, says she is perfectly fine, then prescribes more medication! That night she had a seizure and would eventually have to be put down from the damage caused. I watc more

The vet proceeded to put her under general anesthetic for a dental cleaning and to extract 1 abscessed tooth, she pull 10 of her teeth out (I regret giving them the okay to do what they felt was necessary, I sure wasn’t expecting it to go from 1 to 10 teeth!), without giving antibiotics prior to the surgery, over medicated her with other pills (TURBO WAS 16 YEARS OLD BTW). After the surgery her symptoms worsened. Again, the vet disregarded several calls afterwards. Five days later, the vet agrees to see her, evaluates her, says she is perfectly fine, then prescribes more medication! That night she had a seizure and would eventually have to be put down from the damage caused. I watched my poor little girl fall over, walk into walls, and lose control of her motor and body functions for a week, hoping that we might get lucky with a good recovery. Her last night, she collapsed on the floor. We took her back to emergency but unfortunately the damage was too great and we had to make the difficult decision to end her suffering. It is THE OPINION OF FOUR OTHER VETS that Turbo should not have had the surgery given the symptoms, the lack of antibiotics prior to surgery very well could have caused her demise, the doses prescribed on the other medications were 3 times or more, the needed amount for a 16lb dog. I regret trusting our dog’s life to VCA and I hope that this will encourage others to go elsewhere or at least get a second opinion. I now have names of highly recommended, respected vets. Feel free to contact me if you would like their info. OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN. BY THE WAY, ABERMAN (VCA VET) WAS DIRECTLY NOTIFIED OF THE SEIZURE BY ONE OF HER TECHNICIANS DECEMBER 24TH IN THE MORNING, AS OF 1-4-09, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM ABERMAN. Pros: none Cons: Risking your loved one's life, pricing, don't listen. more

DIRTY HOSPITAL, FRONT DESK very RUDE! 6/23/2009

I have been to many vets and she is just soooo narcissistic! Really doesn't listen and I heard staff talking behind her back in the hall. They must not respect her either! DO NOT SEE DR ABERMAN! I had an emergency and the front desk couldn't tell me the name or # of nearest ER hospital! more

Better Before 10/26/2008

We have been taking our pets here for year starting back when it was Dr. Small's office. We loved Dr. Small and are a bit frustrated with the newer VCA version of this hospital. They got a bit less personable and the prices went sky high. However the care is still good so we continue to take our pets there but have spent alot of money doing so. more

AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL 10/11/2008

Where to begin?!! The front desk, all of them, were rude, disrespectful, and didn't care about who you were. On top of that, the techs were not friendly, helpful, never made you feel at home. Dr. Robertson was defensive, walking through the motions, and never made me or my pet feel comfortable. I WARN EVERYONE IT'S EXPENSIVE!!! And it feels more like the McDonald's of vet medicine than a true practice. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!! Kudos to Esther for being the saving grace there. She's a sweetheart and a cut above the rest. more

Great Service 7/1/2008

I found a stray dog on the street and he was flea and tick infested and had a number of abrasions including a huge puncture wound on his back neck. They were able to see me right away and took care of him so well! I didnt have a lot of money to spend so we went over the list of items he needed and they picked out the most important things and even gave me a price break on the appointment because they have an online coupon I didnt know about. \r \r Before we took this dog to the VCA he was lethargic and showed no real spunk or personality. After he came out of there he had an excellent shave - no fleas or ticks - antibiotics for his wounds - and he was so happy and energetic he was like a different dog. \r \r Every since we had him there he has been so happy and energetic. The seem to really care about the animals they are working with. Now I will always take my dogs there - like any vet - they put everything that the dog could need on the quote but they are more than happy to narrow down t more

Cold personality vet and $$$$$$ 4/28/2008

I've been there 3 times. Each time the vet was very cold and just seemed to be going through the motions. Twice was for my dog which one of the times was getting a price on a surgery which they wanted to charge $3000 for where I went to another vet which was much more caring and explained things and charged me $750 for the same surgery that VCA wanted to charge $3000. \r Another time was to help a friend with her cat to be put to sleep because of kidney failure. Same vet and the vet was very cold as I stayed with the cat while it was being put to sleep. \r \r The front desk was nice although extremely busy and seemed unorganized. more

THE WORST OF THE WORST 2/3/2008

When our 14 year old Dalmation got very sick (we thought we were bringing her in to let her go) they were cruel. The vet ignored my two upset children and made us feel like monsters for considering putting her down. She ordered tests and meds. Almost $700.00 later and a week and a half of watching my beloved dog suffer needlessly (she couldn't walk at all or eat). When she took a turn for the very worst we called & they told us to come in. The vet refused to see her. We asked to refill the pain meds until the vet could see her the next day. To get them they insisted on another $300.00 test! We agreed just so she wouldn't suffer. We had to put her down with a different vet the next day. That last test was pure extortion at the expense of a suffering dog. I called to complain and got nowhere. They simply did not care. more

A joke 1/28/2008

I took my cat in twice. They charged for things they did not do both times (the bill charged for a sanitary clip, when I asked the receptionist if they did indeed do it, she replied "yes, i saw him being shaved, looks great" when I took him out of his carrier at home, nothing was groomed! more

I would not go 4/18/2007

I took my cat in because she was acting up. They needed to sedate her and told me they would do some urine tests. Told me to come back in an hour. When I showed up they told me it would be $35o for all kinds of test. So I paid and questioned why I was not told about charges before they did the tests. The front desk told me the Doctor should have given me a quote. When I asked to speak to the manager, after I paid, she told me a quote was not standard procedure. She said the opposite from the front desk. She would not offer me an apology or anything. Finally I told her I would have to dispute it with the credit card company. After that she went to the front desk asked them to refund my money gave me back my sedated cat. She never told me that she would stop the test too. I had to ask her about it. She refused to continue with the test and would not give me my cats records. So there I was with a sick sedated cat no records no where to go. I called the corporate office never heard back. more

not going back 12/4/2006

I took my dog for her regular shots and to have her blood checked. She is an older dog and had to have a blood tranfusion a few years ago. They took her in the back where I heard her howling and whining. When she came out her chest area was red and puffy. I called back a few days later because the spot where I assumed they gave her her shot was bruised. My dog is 11 and has NEVER reacted that way to getting a simple shot. The doctor then called me every week trying to sell me dog food. Needless to say I would not trust them with my dog. more

Great vets, busy office 1/30/2006

I love this office and miss my regular vet who has since retired. However all the other vets and employees work extremely hard to see your animal and to take care of them. The office is clean, and has a friendly atmosphere. I had to leave my cat overnight and they were so nice, they even offered to let me call all of the time so that I wouldnt worry. Their prices are a little bit higher than other local vets, but for the big jobs this is where I would go. There is ample street parking, but they can get busy, so you might have to walk. more
