overall I like it 6/17/2011

This place is pretty good. The customer service isn't fantastic, but overall I like it. I'm an engineer, and I often need to get some obscure part of a computer. This is the only place in Berkeley that will root through their old parts for me. They found an Intel IWI4965 wireless chip for me, which is almost impossible to find as it was sold as part of a set of Gateway motherboards. They gave it to me for $15. I've been there many times since, and I can generally get what I want for a hell of a lot cheaper than other stores around, like Eid's. more

I'm surprised at all the negativity from the previous reviews. These guys were great ! I've bought three different computer systems from them over the years and they've always been helpful. I travel all the way from SF just to buy from them. In fact, I'm going back again this week to get a new laptop. Sure, they won't wait on you hand and foot all the time. (I guess some of these other people are peeved about that). But hey, talk to them about what you need and they always listen and help out. And, it beats buying some sketchy looking system from a stranger off Craigslist, (as they even offer warranties on used systems they sell). 5 out of 5 stars !!! more

A very customer oriented store 2/17/2011

A very customer oriented store. They have good prices and excellent repair service. The technician and many of the staff are very knowledgeable about computers. This is a community business that thinks highly of their customers instead of trying to squeeze every dime out of them. In a recent transaction, of many, they charged me $15 labor to install a new keyboard on a HP persario laptop without any problems or delay in the work. more

The Used Computer Store has saved my life 2/15/2011

The Used Computer Store has saved my life. I brought in my lifeless computer not thinking it had a hope in the world since the shady folks at Eid's had uploaded an incompatible Russian version of Windows onto my computer. I couldn't even get to my main page. Not only did the incredibly polite and amicable staff at The Used Computer Store diagnose and fix the seemingly impossible problem, they did it for cheaper than Eid's staff charged to ruin my computer in the first place. Great success and patient, pleasant staff; I definitely reccomend The Used Computer Store. more

I had a great experience. I've been lagging on getting a replacement battery for my 4 year-old G4 and after too much searching online for "the best deal" and not even knowing the batteries were a reputable brand or even reputable for generic, I decided to walk in to these guys.? more

While my mom was visiting me for a week from FL, she went to this store and they spent probably 2-3 hours with her teaching her how to use her computer! Which is incredible! Thank you, thank you, nice people who work there! more

I have bought 2 computers from these guys and what was paid was more than made up by their further service. admittedly their return policy could use some work but Bill and the other staff there have been very patient with all my stupid questions and I would use this store agai more

I completely recommend 1/20/2011

My HS senior came home from school with six hours of homework only to discover that his computer charger had died. He was panicked. I called Best Buy in Emeryville where we buy everything. Let it ring 20 times. Let it ring 20 times again. Was there really nobody working there who could pick up the phone in the sales department for a customer? While on hold I started searching for alternatives. SO GLAD to find this store and discover it was open until 8 pm. Read the most recent review which was great, but a little concerned about the lesser reviews. I called anyways and chatted with Jeff. He put me on hold to check the inventory to make sure he had the correct charger before I drove over from Oakland. The price was appropriate. When I arrived he grabbed the charger, ensured that it worked properly, and reminded me that there was a 90 day warranty. Drove home, son plugged new charger into old laptop and he has been happily working on his school project for hours. I completely recommend more
