A Review for Tryg's - A Delicious Surprise! 5/10/2011

Since my husband and I stopped into Tryg's one night for a late dinner, I have been meaning to write a review about the great food and atmosphere. I loved the Salmon Cakes on the Fennel-Apple Arugula Salad, the Ratatouille that my husband ordered was right, great fish and wild rice, and the ice cream sundae was a nice ending that was not too much after all the delicious flavors. The drinks were good too. We did wait awhile for our first drink and that is the only complaint, as I try to find one. However, we were able to speak with one of the chef's who we know is a fantastic chef and that was also fun. We absolutely enjoyed our experience. It was a perfect stop on a cold night. Now, as it getting nice out, we are looking forward to visiting again. They have the wood fire area and some outdoor seating. more

I will NEVER go back to Tryg's for bunch!!! 5/8/2011

I have been to Tryg's a few times and liked the atmosphere and food. For Mothers Day I decided to take the family for brunch. It was a horrible experience and I will NEVER go back to Tryg's for bunch!!! The waitress told us the brunch was $24.95/person and $10/kid. Milk NOT included for the kids. The food was bad. The presentation was a mess. The fruit on the buffet was in the upside down plastic lid of the pre-cut fruit tray. The hash-browns were burnt and cold. I watched a server pick something out of the food tray with her hand and say ""what is that"". Then just leave the rest of the food in the tray. On our bill the brunch was $29.95/person and the waitress denied saying it was $24.95 even though 4 people hear her say it. more

Overcharged. Terrible Manager. Never coming back. 2/11/2011

Thankfully I kept my receipt. Not till 2 weeks later on my CC statement did I realize I was overcharged conveniently by $35. Coincidentally I left a cash tip. After calling to speak to a manager after I realized I was over charged, I was told they would call me back. No call. For 2 days. Finally I called again and spoke to the manager, who was very inconsiderate and short with me. I was disconnected from the manager, and after calling back and waiting 5 mins on hold, the manager finally answers. After they agreed to refund my $35, they hung up. No apology, no gift card offered, nothing more than terrible handling of the situation by the manager. I certainly will NOT be going back, simply because of how the manager handled the situation. *********FAIL!!********* more

Always a fun time! 11/27/2010

I live close by, and go there usually twice a month. Staff is always friendly, and I love the apps and happy hour food! Great ambiance, and usually the live music is pretty good. Highly recommended! more

WOW 11/15/2010

The food was phenomenal. I can't remember the last time I had a steak that was this juicy, tender, and cooked to order. The location is prime too. Not too far from Calhoun Square. A definite place for those who love to dine such as myself. more

Mother's Day FLOP 5/10/2010

Tryg's may have the best food in the world, I'll never know, and neither will my wife or kids. We had reservations yesterday for Mother's Day with everyone looking forward to a tasty Mom's Day brunch. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation to find a chaotic lobby area, unconcerned hosts who told us ""we are about an hour behind so we won't be able to seat you for about an hour"". Remember, WE HAD RESERVATIONS! Needless to say, when a restaurant can't honor a reservation, especially on such an important day, they will NEVER see my business and I'll go out of my way to make sure others are aware of the lack of concern that the hosts and manager showed. If people only thought about how they'd want to be treated, WHY EVEN MAKE A RESERVATION IF YOU AREN""T GOING TO HONOR IT!!! I understand short delays, but over an hour, come on! Cons: Reservations don't mean a thing... more

Second Time =Great Time 1/25/2010

We came here for NYE and had a blast. 2# Lobster special was great. We returned again on Saturday Night, we just had appetizers and sandwiches but they were good. The Jazz band was excellent as well. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: loud at times more

Great Atmosphere 1/16/2010

We dined tonight at Tryg's, and it was very enjoyable. We live in Roseville and dont get out that way too often. My wife kept raving about the grilled jalapenos with bacon. What an impressive restaurant, and thank you to the wonderful staff. Pros: Atmosphere food & service more

Couldn't believe the value!! 9/20/2009

They have a Saturday patio grill special 12-4 - burgers & brats and such all for $5. It was awesome! Whats more Minnesotan than enjoying a beautiful day on a patio with an outdoor grill - kickin out those brats! Good times! Pros: great value, great food &service more

I wish ""The View"" would stop writing reviews on here! 6/20/2009

Tryg's has the best happy hour in town, and $2 grilled appetizers after 9pm tuesday-saturday. The view is at the bottom of the food chain, and they know it! After 7pm there is no one there! Grow up ""View"", you have completely ruined your own business-now be mature enough to accept it. Cons: Being mentioned in the same sentence as ""The View"" more

Needs good management, hiring and training 5/19/2009

We've been going to Tryg's since it opened, and we're really trying to like the place, but they make it really hard. Unless you sit at the bar right under a bartender's nose, you can NOT get noticed. On Sunday nights, there is no supervision. We had to catch someone's eye to get a table, and sat there with menus for a good long time while servers walked on by--no eye contact, nothing. This place needs management! Go to The View instead--friendly, attentive employees, great food. Pros: great bar atmosphere Cons: Servers are inattentive, clueless more

oh this place is great! 2/6/2009

I was at a birthday party at Tryg's they made our occassion even more special. \r Great food and fun! We had a blast!\r \r Pros: Nice staff, beautiful restaurant more

I'd eat here again 2/5/2009

The deviled eggs at this place are amazing. + the bar is good people watching. Good happy hour food too. Pros: good food, nice atmosphere, across the street from the lake so we walked over. Cons: Wine list needs tweeking more

Bad News Bears 1/29/2009

I like the fire pit outside and that's about it. The bar area is ugly, outdated and with too many softball teams. The prime rib that I had here was possibly the worst I've ever had; even in a small town casino in Morton MN. BAD! more

Good food, terrible service 1/26/2009

I have gone to Tryg's a number of times with my husband as we like the food, but we always have an awful experience. Every time we go, we are left sitting at the table with no server, menus are not available, left waiting to order or never receive something we've ordered. We are not going to go back. more

Sunday Brunch 11/16/2008

Sadly brunch was ruined by an obnoxiously loud jazz trio. We could not hear each other talk and left with headaches! We went to Tryg's for brunch, not a concert. We will not return on a Sunday. Service was much improved this time around, however, and the food is decent. (A good rule of thumb seems to be: If you see guys bartending, leave. If the ladies are working behind the bar, stay. They are better at what they do.) Pros: Parking, Menu Cons: Loud Live Music Sundays, Inconsistent Service more

Great Atmosphere-Even better food!! 11/15/2008

I live in the neighborhood, and go out to eat at least 2 times a week. Now I love the options that downtown Minneapolis has to offer, but with the great atmosphere, live music, and great menu-not to mention a parking lot you could park a 747 in. Tryg's offers a great conveinient experience. Its great energy! You really should check i out! Pros: Fresh seafood, warm, great energy Cons: Theres not more like them! more

poor service 9/18/2008

My boyfriend and I went there the other night for a few drinks. We were in the neighborhood and there was live music. There weren't very many people there and the bar was full of empty seats. We sat down at the bar and waited for a least half an hour and watched the music. The bartender didn't even come over to us. Meanwhile all the old people got service. bartender = ageist or lazy, or only interested in plastic suburban people. Pros: wouldn't know Cons: horrible service, bad conversations in the atmosphere more
