Tresca

I'm not a burger or Pizza fan, but I will choose either of them over Tresca in the future. My wife and I went in when they first opened and like everyone else it was slow(which was to be expected), nice decor, noisy, confused staff,smelled good and had decent food. We waited a few months only to find nothing had changed. So we gave them a third chance last week......NEVER AGAIN! I was so dissapointed in the service, food quality and all new faces. I understood it was the same owner and that they had gone through several chefs. I have talked to other locals I discovered that none of them reccomended Tresca, they all had the same BAD experience. Too bad, Hillsboro really needs quality choices for dinning. Maybe the place accross the street will win my wife and I over when it opens. Let's all keep our fingers crossed. I'm very surpised to read some of the earlier reviews of this restaurant because we have always had great food and decent service when we have dined at Tresca. The pasta is good, the salads are great, and the portions are pleasing. Their peach dessert is to die for, and I highly recommend the orange spinach salad and fettuccine alfredo. Their portions are definitely large enough to split between two people! I love having a comfortable, casual restaurant so close to home where I can share a meal with my husband or hang out with the girls from work. I have tried this place 3 times overthe last 3 months. All resulted in slow service. 25 minute wait for a salad, soup and a sandwich??!! The waitresses talked to patrons about their health problems and just stood around doing nothing. Makes sense with there only being 3 other parties in the whole place at noon. No wonder it's never busy: The food is not Italian. My caprese sandwich was mushy, barely warm with hard bread. The artichoke soup was overly salty and had more potatoes chunks than artichoke. My friend's salad was bland and nto worth the high price. This place will nto last long. Cons: service, cost, quality of food, wait time for a simple meal more

I agree the halibut should be a regular. Chef Wade outdid himself with this one. I eat at this establishment a tremendous amount and enjoy it every time. I highly recommend it to everyone. Downtown Hillsboro now has two fine restaurants and Tresca is one of them. I've had consistently wonderful entrees there since its opening but Chef Wade's grilled halibut last night compelled me to write. Floating amidst tarragon butter and nestled on fennel, this ample portion of Icelandic halibut coated with black spices was cooked to a perfect texture. Baby carrots complemented the dish and gave a healthful border for the buttery sauce. It's a special that needs to be on the regular menu. Pros: Great cooking, ample servings, good service, convenient hours. Cons: Kitchen noise intrudes on the dining room. Evening Hillsboro's deserted downtown. more

Have tried a number of times to visit this resturant and either they were not open or closed too early. When I finally did get in, it was not worth the wait. more

My husband and I decided to treat our parents to dinner tonight! We wanted to go some where close to home and remembered that we had seen what seemed to be a nice Italian restaurant in downtown Hillsboro. It was a perfect location in walking distance to our home. Upon arrival, we were seated and presented with bread that tasted like Wonder bread. We asked for a wine list and received a pathetic list of over priced wines .....only two price points $24 or $32 (for reds). We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer which was nothing more than a mushroom cap filled with ricotta cheese.....please note it took 25 minutes to get our appetizer and you only get three for $9.00. Next, we scanned the menu for our dinner entree. Selection looked great, but don't be fooled by what you read. I can do better with a can of Ragu and a box of Ronzoni pasta. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was gross. The chicken was dry and looked to be reheated. The marinara sauce was completely disgusting and the pasta, which should have been al dente, was mushy. My husband ordered the white clam sauce with fettucine and sausage. OK, there was sand in his clams which made for a very crunchy meal. Come on, rinse your clams. He walked away feeling that he just ate a plate full of dirt....maybe on ""Survivor"" that would have been a fine meal. Our folks claimed they had a good meal but they were just being polite because we payed the bill. Dessert was surprisingly good. I'm not sure why we would move on to course number 3 but the folks wanted dessert. I believe the best part of our meal was the dessert with peaches in it....can't remember the name. So, $130 later, we feel completely robbed and taken advantage of. Please don't waste your time or your money. Macaroni Grill puts this place to shame and Old Spaghetti Factory is even 5 star compared to Tresca. Tresca had a rough start, slow service and food that didn't quite stand up to their prices. But I had heard that they had a new chef. The new chef is outstanding and really turning things around. Food quality, consistency and quanity definately surpass their new prices. The wild mushroom ravioli apetizer is mouthwatering. The house salad dressing made me want a 2nd helping. I had the chicken marsala and the sauce was perfect, the rissotto just right and the chicken moist and tender. Topped off with a great Washington Merlot. The owner said they were bringing in more local wines. Then the dessert!! A beautiful creation of grilled peaches, vanilla mousse, puffed pastry topped with a spun sugar tower. mmmmm, mmmmm. The other thing I noticed was a small town local friendliness, people stopping to talk to each other, everyone chatting and enjoying a local musician - the owner of the music store down the street - a sprinkling of laughter. The owner wandered table to table to greet customers and check on quality. This place has made a 180 degree turn. I'll definately head back again. This time I want to check out that lamb dish I saw served at the next table, it looked scrumptios! Pros: Great food, great atmosphere! Tresca has certainly had it's share of growing pains since it opened serveral months ago. It used to boast painfully slow service, high prices and a completely incompetent ""chef"". Happily it now has new chef who is both experienced and responsive. His reworked menu and beautifully presented dishes are the turning point Tresca needed. In addition they now have live music on Friday evenings and a freindly crowd. This and the small bar they've added near the rear of the dining room now make this a neighborhood place that's fun to hang out. Thr prices have been lowered and they've added proper wine glasses. The service still has room for improvement, but is much better. I look forward to my next visit and trying another one of Wade's lovely sauces. Pros: Live music, great food, Hillsboro location more

We ate at this restaurant for the first tme 6 weeks ago. Tonight will be our third time back and first experience with the new chef. We are also excited to see and experience the new bar. The food is consistently delicious and well prepared. The service staff is friendly and is still working on the bumps of menu and wine knowledge. They are bit on the casual side and visit at your table more than most restaurants you would expect, however, we happen to like it. It is a neighborhood restaurant with a neighborhood feel but still has food as good as you can get in downtown Portland. I say try it! Pros: Great food at a reasonable price. Perfect for date night! What I treat, my wife and I thought, a new italian restaurant in quaint downtown Hillsboro. Dinner and a pleasant drive in the country. Let me first state that the wait-staff did their best and were pleasant. To them I give thanks. We lived in New York for over thirty years and I know the cuisine well. Quite frankly, I've had better food at ""Italian night"" at a greasy spoon buffet than there. Pasta was done unevenly, and sauces that come from outdated generic cans taste better. My sensitive wife overheard what she said was a severe scolding given to a member of the wait-staff, which she described as a terrible over reaction. She lobbied to cancel and leave then, I talked her into at lease trying the food. My mistake. Management problems seem to be the culprit. Try Tresca when you see a new management sign, not until. I really enjoyed the food. It's not the usually west coast italian they try to call New York Italian. I love the bruscehetta freshly baked bread and fresh mozzarella. My wife have the artichoke spinach dip with the fresh baked bread, wish we had more of that one. The Alfredo sauce and pasta I would highly recommend but I would have them add chicken next time. My wife had the chicken marsala with extra sauce and mushrooms. It was wonderful. Pros: Great selection of wines to go with the menu more

I love having an upscale restaurant on Main Street in Hillsboro, so I was dying to try Tresca when it opened. I've been to Tresca twice on weeknights. However, both times the service was slow (45+ min from ordering to entree served) with no explanation which may be fine for the Pearl but not for Hillsboro, and their wait staff can't answer simple questions about the menu. Their bread was disappointing, not flavorful and of grocery-store quality. Their antipasto plate was quite tasty. Their crab & shrimp cannelloni is amazing. Their scallops are served with a salty white sauce, but are otherwise good. The eggplant parmesan is served over linguini, but the eggplant was a little undercooked (crisp) in spots. Their cannolis are good and handfilled, if you can stand to wait 20 minutes for them. All in all, Tresca had a lot of promise. If they can just improve the wait-staff quality (menu knowledge, filling water glasses, removing appetizer plates quickly, bringing the check when asked) and make consistently good food, they will succeed. I really want to like this place. It's near my house and it's a cute little place. I don't even mind the higher prices, as long as I'm getting something that I like! The first time I went there was for dinner, I got the Sicilian salad ($9) and my husband got a bowl of Tuscan Bean Soup ($5).
