Took my 05 equinox in for a (small) transmission leak. Could NOT get Gus to give me any type of bid. I trusted him. $3000 later, my car was fixed, but I really should have gotten a...

The only shop to go to! 6/8/2011

My car just quit on me when I was driving down Kingston Pike and I was able to push it to the side of the road. I called 3 repair shops to see if I could get somebody to tow it before the police arrived, but two of them told me they would call me right back and never did, and the other one put me on hold for over ten minutes before I just hung up on them. Transmission World was the only shop that actually called a tow truck immediately, and made sure both my car and me made it to their shop safely. more

Audi Clutch, Job Well Done 5/30/2011

Transmission World repaired the transmission on my cousin's Pathfinder and it's worked well ever since, so when he heard that I was having trouble with the clutch in my Audi he suggested I take it there to have them check it out. When I brought it in to them I could tell right away that they knew what they were talking about, and felt really comfortable leaving my car with them. They did the job right, and didn't charge me an arm and a leg to get it done. I just finished taking a long trip to see my niece graduate in Florida, and it drove beautifully all the way there and back. Now that I know they do more than just transmissions I recommend them to all my friends having car problems. more

Very Knowledgeable 5/28/2011

These guys fixed my daughter's 03 Honda Pilot a few weeks ago. Originally, I was going to go to the dealership with it because she's in college and I wanted it done right the first time, but I just about fell over when I heard how much they were going to charge me! When I called Transmission World and talked to Gus I was reassured that it wouldn't really cost that much to fix the transmission problems, and after talking to him about what it had been doing for the last few weeks, he seemed like he knew exactly what the problem was and would be able to fix it no problem. more

Fixed my Taurus while I waited 5/23/2011

I was having problems with my Ford Taurus and didn't know who to call. My brother always fixed things on my cars for me, but he died last year so I had to find a shop to figure out what was going on with it. I checked online at all the transmission places in the area, and read all the good reviews for Transmission World. When I took it in they were really nice, and didn't try to take advantage of me even though I don't know anything about cars. I felt really comfortable and not pressured at all. It turned out to be something minor, and they fixed it while I waited there which was nice. \r When my car was done I was so happy that I didn't have to pay for anything major, and they said if I was happy with the service I could tell people about it...so I decided that I would tell the whole internet on a review! more

Reliable Service 5/23/2011

I have a 2003 Caravan that I kept bringing back to another shop in town. No matter what the other shop did, they couldn't seem to fix the problem I was having with the van. As soon as I towed it out of there and in to Transmission World, I knew that I had found the right place. Their mechanics did a full diagnostic on the Caravan (not some halfway guess like the other place) and knew immediately what was going on. I was even able to get into a loaner car right away without being charged anything for it. My van was done when they promised, and I haven't had any problems since then! I will definitely go back for any maintenance or fluid changes. This is the only shop I trust with my vehicles now. more

Got Me Back On The Road 4/29/2011

I was taking my daughter on a road trip from new orleans to washington dc for her spring break when our car started acting up. We were going to see the capital and learn about the founders of our great nation. We get to chattanooga, and the car won't go into reverse. I'm in the middle of the parking lot for the gas station and my car will only go forward. This is a problem, but I'm thinking that I don't want to ruin my daughter's week, so maybe I'll just watch it and have it fixed when we get back home. unfortunately, we get back on the road and the car is jerky when it changes gears on some of the hills. I can handle being careful where I park and making sure I don't have to back up for a week or so, but I can't do the whole breaking down on the expressway thing. more

Great Customer Service 4/11/2011

SCAMMERS, THEIVES 4/2/2011

Where to even start? This is a complete SCAM shop. So people who don't know very much about cars (like myself) please beware, or just the public in general. They will take you for every cent. My boyfriend brought his car here because at the time he didn't have the money to pay for it, and his mom was helping him out. His mom thought this would be an ok place to take the vehicle because GUS the owner was a friend of her husbands. Originally the mechanic assigned to the vehicle was Jim, after Jim had worked and worked on it (so he said) he got frusturated and ended up taking the vehicle home over the weekend. When we went to see about the car the following Monday, it wasn't at the shop, it was still in Jim's possession. We were a bit worried when we were told that Jim had gone on "vacation" and the car was no where to be found. We were then promised the car would be back at the shop by Tuesday. Come Tuesday we find out this so called vacation was really a "crack binge" and Jim had been more

3x Customer 9/22/2010

Transmission World just finished up on the third car I've brought in to their shop over the years. After the amazing job they did fixing a noise in my wife's Camry that 2 other shops couldn't seem to find the cause for, and then rebuilding the transmission in my work truck for a lot less than what the dealer quoted me, I felt pretty confident bringing in my classic Fairlane to have some minor work done. They did such a thorough job, and really made me feel like my pride and joy was in the right hands. I really appreciate all the care that was taken to ensure that it was done right. These guys really went out of their way to make sure I was happy with all of my vehicles, and I recommend them to anyone needing a noise or leak looked at. more

Honest Service 4/23/2010

Once again, I had the pleasure of dealing with an honest business. I have been a customer of Transmission World for a couple of years now, and have let them service multiple family cars. In the past, I had a situation that could have EASILY resulted in being told that I needed unnecessary work, but that didn't happen! It feels so good to be able to have a trusting relationship regarding car services, because that is not always the case. Many thanks to Jim and all. more

Great Place 4/20/2010

This guys were great! Honest and right to the people. Explained everything and completed the job right when the said it would be finished. I am hearing all of these bad reviews I dont understand it, JUST PAY YOUR BILLS PEOPLE!!! If you need a new transmission it will cost you period! This place was well worth the money and recommend it to anyone!!! more

Wouldmy gp back 3/5/2010

I got them for speciallized work on a differential gear, three times called I told them I wanted no further work checked, just the item I agreed to hire them to replace. The differential gear is no where inside the main transaxle, but jim said oh and your pump is scored too. My recordings show jim was told to not open the main transaxle up, but he did anyway. when i authorized the differential parts to be insatalled he also installed a pump and bands. Facts are facts, the behicle worth was 600 and I requested just the gear in the differential replaced and we had agreed to that, but he slid in a pump and bands after making several attemts to get me to agree to it and me saying no, if I told him not to do any further work than the gear how did he know the pump was scored, since that requires opening up areas of the transmission totally away from the differential. I wasnt looking to get over 10,000 more miles just a few thousand, its a 20 year old vehicle, he basically raised the agreed price by 600 more dollars, despite me telling him he cant. His reasoning when I authorized the gear parts to be installed I didnt say do not install the pump and bands, even though I had said that in the previous 3 conversations. scam artist, he said he would uninstall all parts no charge, thats after they already had the vehicle 14 days. I went ahead and paid, to get the vehicle and personal items out of there and I am contemplating a suit based on worlk specifically told to not be done, that was done anyway, based on a last conversation of go ahead and start the work, he seems to think my 3 recordings telling him no will not outweigh the one where he assumed yes. Cons: Wants were not listened to, and a shell game was played more

Transmission World EXPOSED 2/13/2010

Hope everyone has been watching the repeated news stories on WATE of Transmission World scamming people. They jack up the repair price and when the owner can't pay it, they put a mechanic's lien and sell them off the lot. Watch the stories, there is a young ladie's car that is over there now, that they won't give back. Please look on WATE news website and do your homework people and look on the internet at ALL the reviews. more

Honest Job 2/10/2010

A repair shop told me I needed to put a new transmission in my 2000 Caravan, but when I brought it in to Transmission World they fixed it by just putting in a "solenoid block". I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it worked, and it only turned out to be $400. I appreciate them fixing what was actually wrong instead of just charging me for a whole new transmission. more

no more noise 1/27/2010

The tow truck driver that I called recommended this shop, said it was better than the one that was closer to where I broke down. No complaints, my car seems to be problem free since I picked it up, but it did take a day longer than I was told in the beginning. They did let me pick it up on a saturday instead of waiting until monday, so that made it better, and I feel good about having a 12 month warranty. Pros: no car problems since I had it fixed Cons: took an extra day more

Good Service 10/19/2009

I got stuck on the way back from visiting family in Strawberry Plains. There was no way my car was going to make it all the way home, so I pulled into a gas station and looked through the phone book for someone to call. I called a few places but wasn't having any luck because it was sunday... until I called Transmission World. THANK GOD a real person actually answered the phone. The tow truck was there in less than an hour and I even got a ride back home after we got to the shop. I really appreciate them going the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of. The best part of all was that I got my car back two days later and it works great! more

2 Thumbs Up! 10/13/2009

These guys were great. They towed in my 2001 Caravan the very same day I called, and provided me with a loaner car at no charge. My van was done in 3 days, as promised, and it works flawlessly. I'd give them two thumbs up! more

Good job 7/13/2007

Ok---here's the bottom line------50,000 miles later and i still have the ""re-conditioned"" transmission that was installed in my chrysler by this shop. When i sent my car here, i thought that it would be much less expensive than having one of the local chrysler dealers do the work because i had an estimate performed before i decided to send the car here. As it turned out, the work that was done was maybe 10% less than the dealer. Originally i was quoted an ""initial estimate"" which was much less. My advise to anyone using this shop is to be careful-----if you are comparing their prices from someone else, have them give you ""their estimate"" for the exact same work---in writing and before you give them the car! One of the truly good pieces of advise i received from here was to make sure that you have the transmission serviced on a regular interval of about 15000 miles-----it works. more
