Great Place for Meat Lovers 1/15/2010

The service here was top notch. Although the salad bar was fairly small, the meat was tender, juicy and delicious. Besides, no one goes there to eat salad. The baby beef was really good, as well as the special. I didn't really care for the lamb chops because of the seasoning, but I don't really care for lamb chops in general. It is easy to pass the place if you are not paying attention. Overall, I had a great experience. Pros: Service, Meats Cons: Small Salad Bar more

Best Restaurant In Houston 12/30/2009

..Our trip to this restaurant was amazing! From beginning to end everything was wonderful. We were seated promptly, then went to the salad bar, where everything was fresh and had a lot of things to choose from, not just lettuce and a couple of veggies,my favorite were the beautiful tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. Then at our table we were served every kind of meat imagineable, all cooked to perfection, then on to yummy chicken, shrimp, and lamb chops,it all melted in your mouth..The service was the best we've ever had, friendly and efficent. At the very thought of needing something , it was brought to us..Just when you think there could be nothing better there, then came time for dessert, even if you have no room left, still order dessert..the creme brulee, the chocalate mousse cake, and the key lime pie,to name only a few, again the best we've ever had..This is definately a restaurant with class! We've had the others, all not as good with much higher prices.Tradicao is our New Favorite!! Pros: The best service, best everything! more

Fantastic Cheap Brazilian Steakhouse 10/5/2009

I've now eaten at this restaurant twice, and each time has been exceptional. The first time was several months ago, and despite that, when we came in, both the manager and a server said ""Welcome back."" I've gone to at least five different Brazilian steakhouses (including Fogo), and this one is my favorite.\r \r Their salad bar is small, but has very high quality, interesting items on it. Yesterday, I had their fresh mozzeralla cheese, their green beans, asparagus, and olives.\r \r To get unlimited meat, you flip a coaster from its red side to its green side. As soon as you turn your coaster green, the side dishes arrive: bread with cheese inside, tasty mashed potatoes, fried plantains, buttered rice, and black beans. We never had to ask to get refills of any of these.\r \r The servers were excellent. The meat came out medium, which was too rare for my girlfriend, so they went back and cooked it up to medium-well/well done just for her. They were very attentive - on hearing that we don't eat pork products, they made a point to not bring any.\r \r Last night, their selection of meats included: house special steak, filet mignon, baby beef, bottom sirloin, lambchops, beef ribs, and chicken legs. All were excellent. The chicken was fabulous - crispy outside, juicy tender inside, and melt-in-your-mouth seasoning. The beef ribs were the least interesting, but were still great. The seasoning on all of them made me just close my eyes and go ""mmmm.""\r \r I also saw other meats go by - bacon wrapped filet, bacon wrapped chicken, pork ribs and sausages.\r \r When we turned our coaster back to red, they offered us dessert. We were so full of meat that we didn't even try to take one on, but I saw another table get them. They were huge.\r \r The price per person was $32.50, though it will be going up to $34.50 soon. Tradicao is friendly and welcoming. You can find a coupon for it available on some restaurant sites. It's a wonderful meal for a special occassion. Pros: Excellent steak and salad bar, attentive servers, cheap pric Cons: It's slightly unnoticeable where it's located more

An Orgy of Perfection! 10/3/2009

An orgy of perfection! It was raining on arrival; we were met at the car with an umbrella by the complimentary valet service. Upon entering Tradicao Brazilian Steakhouse, we were greeted like family friends returning after a sabbatical. A basket of delicious popover bread was placed on the table with the surprise of a small piece of cheese melted inside. The salad bar was loaded with delights such as steamed cold asparagus, roasted sweet yellow and red peppers, gourmet cheeses, none of your typical salad bar fare. Every morsel of meat was heavenly, I especially recommend the bacon wrapped filet, shrimp, bacon wrapped chicken, and parmesan crusted pork. But, with 14 different meats to choose from, I’m sure you will have a personal list of favorites. The staff pampered and babied without hovering, the gauchos serving the meat were friendly and eager to please.\r \r Exit from I-59 onto Hillcroft, then go south on HWY 59 to just beyond the Hilton Hotel and La Quinta Inn, don’t be fooled as you turn into the parking lot, a vacant building faces you, bear right and you will arrive at the front door.\r Pros: Fabulous bread, delicious meat, upscale salad bar Cons: As you enter the parking lot a vacant building faces you more

Worth the trip -- especially for big eaters! 9/10/2009

We went here for the first time for our dinner around 6:00 earlier this week. The restaurant was easy to spot right off the freeway, and parking was no problem at all. I was a little nervous at first because only one other table was being served, but I think it was just because we were early -- the place quickly filled up as our meal went on. We started our meal with a trip to the salad bar, and there was a good selection of well-composed salads and fresh cheeses. We sampled both the Brazilian lemonade and liquor-laced Caipirinha, and both were sweet and fruity. Once we flipped the coaster to green, the meat parade was ON! The stand-outs were the house specialty C-shaped cut of beef (can't remember the name), the bacon-wrapped filet and the grilled shrimp. I'm not a big fan of pork, but their parmesan-encrusted cut was phenomenal. Because the beef here is served to our preferred choice of medium to rare side, we never needed any special requests from the kitchen. Our table was quickly populated with side dishes of black beans, rice, fried bananas, and mashed potatoes, but the standout side was clearly the piping hot cheese popover-like bread. We easily polished off three baskets full. Did I mention that we're big eaters? :-) As for the service, I can easily say that it was the best we’ve experienced in Houston. Though it seemed like there were nearly half-dozen people checking on us throughout our meal, their timing was impeccable. They struck the right combination of being attentive without being annoying. We kept joking throughout our dinner that it’s almost as if they anticipated our needs before we could ourselves. My only pet peeve with this place is that that the plastic banner sign on the building gives the uninitiated diner (ie, a person just passing by) the wrong impression – almost like the place was temporary...? Oh, and I wasn't a big fan of the bananas -- Tradicao, if you're reading this, please do plantains instead! -- but that's really just a personal preference. Totally unexpected: along with our bill, we got a coupon for $10 off our next visit. We didn't need any convincing to come back again, but this was definitely a nice surprise. Don't let the $30 price tag deter you from going -- it's all you can eat, and even if you just pick at your food, it's still cheaper than you would pay at other restaurants of similar quality. Plus, as other reviewers mentioned, you could probably find a coupon somewhere if that's a little out of your range. Pros: Attentive service, high-quality food Cons: So-so exterior doesn't match the experience inside more

CAN""T GET BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/22/2009

I HAD DINNER THER ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO AND AT FIRST I WAS NOT SURE IF I SHOULD STAY, THERE WERE HARDLY ANY PEOPLE IN THIS PLACE.\r WE DECIDED TO STAY AND OHH BOY, MOST FLAVORFULL MEAT I HAVE HAD IN SOME TIME, FORGET OTHER PLACES LIKE FOGO DON'T PAY FOR DECOR AND AMBIANCE PAY FOR THE FOOD. \r SINCE THEN I HAVE PROBABLE BEEN IN THERE 8 OR 9 TIMES AND WILL GO BACK NEXT WEEK JUST BECAUSE I AM OUT OF TOWN THIS WEEK.\r Pros: INEXPENSIVE PRICES, GREAT SERVICE more

WONDERFUL Brizillian steakhouse!!! 6/15/2009

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!! I had been to Fogo de Ciao several times by the time this placed opened, and we went ot try it out, we immediantly placed this place above Fogo with out a doubt! The prices (they sometimes have coupons on b4-u-eat) are very good not only on the meats, but also on the wine/beer. The service was awesome! It was almost humorous that before we even noticed we needed more water/potatos/meat/etc... it was already there for us. It was fantastic! \r The only bad thing is, the salad bar isn't as good as i thought it would be, but i don't think people go to Brizillian Steakhouses for salads. \r I have only been once, but we already have reservations to go again this Saturday! And i'm sure there will be plenty more times ahead as well! Pros: Food, price, wine and beer selection, serivice Cons: not the best decor more

Good Food, Good price 5/24/2009

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The meat was all delicious, and they were great about bringing out new items just as you were finishing up the last (so you weren't waiting for food). The rolls were fantastic, I could have eaten my weight in them. The service was also great, my water glass was never less than half full, and yet I didn't feel like they were hovering over me. I would highly recommend this place, for the type of restaurant and the quality of the food, the price is spot on! Pros: Great Service more

Fantastic Churrascaria - reasonably priced 4/28/2009

I've eaten at a lot of Brazilian Steakhouses (Churrascarias) both in the US and Brazil (I guess you could say I like meat) and Tradicao is one of the better ones. The food quality here was excellent. The cuts of meat were good, the asparagus cooked perfectly, and the bread served warm. Both the service and the caiparenas were top notch -- all for a very reasonable price. It's not quite as flashy as some others (ie FogodeChao), but the food is as good or better. I'll take quality over flash any day. Highly recommended. Pros: Good quality meat, good service, good caiparenas Cons: (don't know if this is a con) - not as fancy as some others more

good service 4/12/2009

The food was okay. I have been to a number of different Brazilian Steakhouse and comparing to Tradicao i felt like their salad bar didn't have large selection nor did their cooks of meat. I felt like there was a lot more rare, medium rare and medium cooks of meat and did not really see anything for well done. Overall, the service was excellent they were really on top of every thing. Pros: the service was great Cons: the atmosphere was not what i expected more

Great service and food 4/10/2009

This new restaurant is awesome. The salad bar and grill meats are delicious and a great price value. The decor is low key, casual eating atmosphere, and excellent service. Come and check this place out! Pros: All you can eat salad bar and delicious grill meats Cons: N/A more

Emergency Room Visit.. 3/27/2009

My mother and I are frequent diners to the various restaurants around town. This past Saturday, March 21, 2009, we decided to try Tradicao for the first time. We made reservations for 6:00pm, got there and was sat right away. There were only a couple of other tables being used by guest. We were greeted immediately by our server and drinks were brought soon after. We then proceeded to the salad bar area. Once done with that, let the meat bringing begin! \r \r All the meat we had was great. Good flavor and a variety. We were sitting down and thinking, this would be a great restaurant along Westheimer or over in the Village. Business would be insane! We finished our dinner and got the bill, paid cash and out the door. \r \r About 830pm, I had to take a pack of Alka-Seltzer due to the heartburn I was having. I fell asleep about 10pm, and around 2:30am, I woke up only to be releasing the food back through my mouth, upset stomach, and severe watery stools for the next 4 hours (NON-STOP.) I was thinking, there is no freaking way this is happening to me. What did I eat that made me so sick? I didn't know, but I did know I had to go to the emergency room right away or else I was going to pass out from dehydration. Mom woke up and hopped in the car with me and off we went. We spent all Sunday morning in the emergency room with an IV in my left arm. Had saline running through my line, as well as IV nausea medication. Was told my guts were irritated from food, which caused me to release my food back through my mouth and severe watery stools non-stop. \r \r Mom kept saying too bad I had this happen cause it was good food. \r \r I spent twice the amount of money paying for the emergency room visit, as well as the three prescriptions given to me to take when I got home. Today is Friday, almost one week later and I still can only eat bland food (dry toast and scrambled eggs.) I have recently added 100% fruit popsicles into my diet. Other than that, food comes right back out. \r \r Please note, I am NOT telling you not to try this restaurant, but if you start to release your food from your mouth or watery stools within hours, you know what it is. I wish this didn't happen to me, and on my first visit, cause I did enjoy myself. I will try it again, but maybe in a year or so. Not anytime soon.\r Pros: Great price for the amount of food... Cons: First time dining here, sent me to the EC.. more

Amazing! Great food and good pricing! 3/27/2009

This is a GREAT Brazilian Steakhouse. My husband is Brazilian, so we have been to all kinds of Brazilian places in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Illinois and this was the best quality with the best price. Like all Brazilian Steakhouses, the price is a little steep, but it is a lot cheaper than most. It was about $30 per person. There was only one place that could compare in quality, but the price was $80 per person! The staff was so nice, they even made a place for my 1 year old to lay down while he was sleeping! If you ever want to try Brazilian food, this is the place!!! Pros: Food quality and friendly staff! Cons: I live to far away. more

Simply the BEST! 3/23/2009

My wife wanted to celebrate my 50th birthday and needed to find a restaurant that suited our taste and the 25-30 guest that would be attending also. We had been to Fogo De Chao but that would be far to expensive. She found Tradicao while searching online. I called and spoke with Katherine, who was positively charming and told me she would be able to accommodate my large party. I went to reveiw the restaurant about two weeks before my birthday and was treated as royalty. A friend went with me and we decided to eat and try the place. WOW! the service was excellent but the food was fantastic. The meat seemed juicier and more flavorful than Fogo. \r \r I took my wife the week before so that she could approve and she was totally impressed. The owners are super friendly, the staff was excellent and any special request was handled without a grimace or complaint. We both enjoyed the great food. So the decision was made. The party was set. \r \r February 22, 2009, My wife and I arrived for the party and the tables were all set up as they had planned. WE were allowed to bring our own birthday cake (wife is a cake decorator) and they had a table all set and ready for the cake. They guest started arriving and were pleasantly please to find the excellent service. None of the guests had a complaint, they all said the food was excellent and the service tremendous. AS anyone who has ever planned a large gathering, it's not easy to please a large crowd of people. My guests were very pleased and very sated. \r \r As a matter of fact I am planning to take a smaller group there tomorrow 02/24/09 because I'm sure the service and food will be as awesome as before.\r \r Thanks to all the staff at Tradicao for making my birthday a pleasure and a milestone I will always remember. \r \r Fred H. Pros: Everything was Wonderful! Cons: Nothing more

Food doesn't get any better than this..... 3/10/2009

I have dined in the finest restaurants in the US and the world. Simply put, food does not get any better than at Tradicao. Neither does the service, and especially at the VERY reasonable prices. $19.50 for lunch; are you kidding me? I've paid much more for much less. I would pay twice the price for this incredible food and service. Pros: Incredible food in terms of variety, quality, quanity, seasoning, temperature more

Fogo who? Chao what? Skip that other place and go straight here. 3/3/2009

Houston's best kept secret when it comes to churrascarias. If you're looking for a steakhouse experience like no other and you don't mind your steak a little on the rare side - then this is the place for you. The service was excellent, the meats were amazing. From the moment I tasted the piping hot fresh bread (which I think had cheese or something delicious in it) I knew it was going to be a memorable experience. The bacon wrapped chicken morsels and mini filet mignons were heavenly. I've never tasted pork tenderloin like that before. I could go on and on, but it would all be positive and might look like I was a paid insider. We went for lunch yesterday and I didn't eat dinner last night because I was still too full. Hmmmm...it's noon. I wonder how long it would take to drive there... Pros: Good price for the quality of food and service. Cons: Overall ambiance is just OK for lunch and without a larger crowd of people. Dinner time ambiance would probably be much better. more

5 STARS FOR TRADICAO 1/28/2009

5 STARS FOR TRADICAO\r \r Just returned from a SUPER experience at Tradicao. My preferred meats cooked exactly the way they were requested (very rare). Even though they are newly opened, everything was very smoothly and professionally done. Fantastic service to match fantastic food.\r \r The owner explained that the lamb chops had been marinated with a mint marinade, and they were PERFECTION. \r \r I have enjoyed Fogo for many years. Tradicao is equally great and a worthy competitor. An important bonus is that the prices are significantly lower than Fogo.\r \r I'll definitely be back. more
