too many problems & crime 5/15/2009

We discovered water leaking into our front door, which was taken care of in good timing, but now are being told we may have to pay to replace the carpet which was water-stained. Also, the water has been sneaking into the walls before we noticed anything. Apparently the mold problem someone else commented on here is true. They sprayed bleach on my walls today and are hiring contractors to come replace carpeting in another area that had been torn a bit in replacing the padding underneath. Another company is to come and do some dry wall on the mold section of the wall. \r \r I am wary of giving permission to enter when I'm not there, as it feels invasive - and Toscana has had break-ins and car thefts (including my own) 5 times while during my short 10-month stay so far.\r \r I am very anxious to get out, especially now that I have to deal with contractors coming to fix so many things at my apartment.\r \r :( more

Rats, Mold, Old Appliances, Slowest Elevator, College Kids 6/18/2008

For a place built in 1985, it sure got rundown fast. Here's what you get at Toscana:\r \r 1. Rats: Food eaten off my counters, trash bags torn open. Office tells me, what can you expect, we live next to a wildlife preserve. Complained twice. \r \r 2. Kitchen looks old, bathroom is old and small.\r \r 3. Plan 10-15 minutes for an elevator to arrive take you to your car in the basement. Seriously.\r \r 4. About 80%+ college kids. So if you like honking horns and loud drunks shouting at 2 a.m., this is for you.\r \r 5. No parking for friends/visitors. Forget about it. They tow cars almost immediately. \r \r 6. No privacy. Management constantly sticks on your door 24 and 48 hour notices to enter your apartment. They hire outside vendors to perform maintenance who leave doors unlocked when they leave and windows wide open. I thought I'd been robbed.\r \r 7. Old, smelly carpets.\r \r 8. A stove, fridge and dishwasher with parts hanging off. more

Horrible complex for adults and professionals 3/25/2008

My husband and I have lived at Toscana for almost a year. We cannot wait to move out of this horrible complex. The employees at the management office are neither very professional nor very helpful. The maintenance response time is terrible. It's been a week since our maintenance request and they still haven't shown up. The upkeep of the property is unsatisfactory. For the amount of rent residents pay you would think they can at least have gate locks that don't break your gate key. The elevator in our area is constantly breaking, and it takes several days before it is working again. The cardio equipment at the gym goes unrepaired for months. Also, we received a notice that there is a mold problem. \r \r If you are a student who just wants a discounted rate then this place might work for you. If you are a working professional or anyone who is basically not a student, then this is definitely not the place for you in my opinion. more

used to be better 11/9/2005

This was the first apartment I ever lived in. I stayed here for 2 years: 1 year in a studio apartment, and 1 in a two bedroom. Back then, before they built Villa Sienna and all those condos next door, Toscana was known as the luxuriest apartment in Irvine. Now, it is being overshadowed by Villa Sienna and the condos around. Studio was a nice size, with a walk-in closet and a decent size bathroom. The two bedroom we lived in was nice. The master is a nice size but the bathroom was tiny. The other bedroom has a huge walk-in closet and a nice size bathroom. Huge living room and a nice size dining room. We had one of those big long dining table, but even then, there's still plenty of room to move around. Toscana still looks nice, but they may want to paint it. It does look older and worn out compare to the other buildings around. more
