Editorial review from Citysearch 8/20/2013

This is the worst experience I have ever had at a medical doctor. I was pregnant with my first child and thought I wanted a small practice so I would know everyone. This was a mistake. \r \r When I called, it was rare that anyone answered the phone; often you had to wait 24-48 hrs for a call back. \r \r I was sent out for sonogram and even the hospital couldn't reach the office to request that the order be completed correctly....an hour later when they finally reached the office, it was suggested that the hospital admitting staff change the order themselves (very illegal). When the hospital refused, it took 30 more minutes to get a correct sonogram order. \r \r I was billed incorrectly on many visits. \r \r The front office staff was very rude and unprofessional. \r \r The final straw came when I arrived 10 minutes early for a 4:00pm appointment and I was told the Dr. had left because I was late. They tried to tell me my appointment was at 3:45 even though I had the automated confirmation still saved on my phone and in my email. Even after being caught in the lie, the office manager refused to give me my medical records that day. I had to wait over a 2 weeks for them to be sent to another office. At 32 weeks pregnant this was a big concern. \r \r Upon reading other review sites I see I am not the first person to experience this problem. Apperantly this is a tactic they have used in the past- try to make the pt. feel as though it is their fault the Dr. chose to leave without seeing all her patients. I would not recommend this practice to anyone. more

Not so Happy 3/20/2011

I had a more unpleasant experience. I went as a new patient just for a regular exam and Dr. Patel told me that I had a yeast infection. I had no pain, never had one before but assumed she knew what she was talking about. She wrote me a prescription which, fortunately, I did not take. I went back to the office a few months later for birth control problems and she reviewed my chart and said that last time everything came back fine. I said that she had written me a script for a yeast infection. She said, ""oh yeah, I guess you didn't."" I was stunned! I wasn't able to trust a doctor who delivers babies but incorrectly diagnosed a yeast infection! Just my experience. more

Wonderful Women's Office! 12/5/2009

I had my first born son March 2009, midwife Karen delivered by C-section, along with the Dr. from the Florida Women's Care office. Through my pregnancy, midwives Michelle and Karen were friendly, knowledgeable, genuinely excited for me, and always answered my questions. I saw Dr. Torres once in my 5th month of pregnancy and never again. But that was OKAY! Dr. Patel saw me quite a few times, and she's excellant!! Cons-the office staff can be VERY rude all except two girls. But the woman who's usually there at the window, has been very rude to me every time and lied to me twice. 1st time, she told me that Medicaid had NOT changed my name to my new married name (even though I had JUST talked to Medicaid and they had) which then caused a problem with the hospital called to tell them that their patient was in labor, and the lady says, ""we dont have that patient"" OH YEAH! That's because they won't change my last name! and the second time, well, I showed up for an appointment and she told me that they had cancelled it, some ""new"" policy that got started back in January that they didn't make appointments on friday afternoons...wait...she made my appointment back in April...I guess she didn't remember WHEN that policy started. So yeah, show up 30 min early to your first appointment to fill out paperwork, or else they WILL turn you away. But once you get past the office ladies, you'll LOVE the women that actually make a difference for you, your health, and your baby:) Pros: Midwives and Dr. Patel are Smart, Friendly and Genuine! Cons: Won't see Dr. Torres hardly/ Rude office ladies! more

Great care 8/10/2009

I have been attending this office since fall of 2008 and I love all of the staff. I do have to usually wait to be taken back, but when I do go back I forget completely about the wait time! The doctor is very well educated in women's matters, and all the nurse midwives are amazing. I have not had a bad encounter with anyone there. They call in any medication without a problem. It is very service oriented. The waiting room is clean and quite. Pros: Individualized care and compassion Cons: wait times more

Love them! 1/20/2009

I don't know what happened with the other review but each time I've been to SWC I've loved it. The staff are pretty friendly - although I think they could be more friendly but both of the midwives I've had were fabulous! I loved them. I have PCOS, and thyroid issues and they've been helpful for me with that. I've spoken to two of the midwives and now have an appointment to see Dr. Torres herself - she's very busy lady. So I can write that when I meet up with her. Pros: Midwives are VERY friendly and helpful. Cons: Parking isn't great but will do. more

Office Staff Ruins It 8/14/2008

Never got to see the doctor, so can't speak about that, but the office staff was terrible. Appointment was made for 10am and after: having them call and reschedule me from my original time and then not call to confirm, getting a babysitter for my child, driving in the pouring rain and waiting 25 minutes in the waiting room, they called me up to tell me they would have to reschedule me because I was late. They told me my appointment was for 9:45 not 10 and that I was 15 minutes late so they wouldn't see me. I showed them my planner that I filled out immediately after the appointment was made on the phone weeks before and the staff rudely denied possibly making any mistake and proceeded to blame me for the error. Needless to say they lost a patient and didn't seem to care. It's a shame when the incompetence of the office staff can ruin it for a potentially good doctor. Would not recommend this office and have since found a great doctor at Florida Women's Care down the street with a terrific staff. more
