I would give a lower rating if it was offered. I am stranded in California because of Tony's work. My vehicle is a 2001 Isuzu Trooper. Tony worked on it in September, October, Nov...

I LOVE this place 6/22/2011

I LOVE this place- they hava always given me really good service and my car has been running like a champ :) I highly recommend anyone taking their car here for all types of work. I never felt taken advantage of here. more

Great people, great service 6/21/2011

I live in Winchester VA. I have a 2006 F350 Diesel. Ford at Winchester or Front Royal couldn't fix my truck after four weeks. I met Tony through business in July 2010. Tony repaired my truck in one day and had his road test guy drive it 125 mile to my business to test drive it with him. This is an old business with old values, something the modern business world lacks. I will always use this auto repair. Great people, great service. Thank you, Tony. more

Listen, Tony's Auto Service repair shop are pros 6/20/2011

Listen, Tony's Auto Service repair shop are pros. They service buses from around the metropolitain area for the US Government. I know, I saw them working on them there. They have a huge set of repair bays, and a large number of ASE certificates hanging off their walls. The place is a big of a throw back to Auto service stations of years ago - but don't let that fool you. They know what they're doing. And their pricing is fair. You see all makes and models being serviced there. It's also a short walk to the Braddock Metro stop, and also not far from Route 1 where many local busses go. Listen, it's where I take my car when I can't fix it myself... and I'm a rocket scienist. So, anyways, if you got the wrecker there and you're ready to shell out cash to a dealer - go right ahead. But if you're like me, and you keep your car for more than a couple of years - and you got issues - go see Tony's. more

AMAZING, most trustworthy 6/16/2011

AMAZING, most trustworthy bunch of mechanics I've ever encountered 'round these parts - heard about 'em in the first place because of word of mouth. Once, I took my car in for squeaky brakes and figured I'd need to get them all replaced, got it in same day, rec'd a call a few hours later where they told me the brakes were just dirty and that they cleaned 'em up for cheap and that the car was ready. Who does that??? more

I'm going to keep coming back 4/5/2011

A friend recommended I take my '99 Toyota truck here after I got a repair quote from Springfield Toyota which literally took my breath away. First they told me I didn't need half the work the dealership told me I did and then they fixed the problem for a fraction of the cost. I saved literally hundreds of dollars, my truck is running fine again and you can't really ask for more than that. This place looks like an old garage you'd find on a back road, run by a couple of good ol' boys, and that's basically what it is. These guys, however, know Toyotas as well as they do Chevys and they won't do you wrong. I'm going to keep coming back. more

Excellent service 3/17/2011

My wife had to replace both her front and rear brakes and get the rotors machined. Tony got us in the same day and out the door in 3 hours! Excellent service and the quote he told me over the phone matched the final price. Great communication, service, and value. Will definitely go to him for all automotive needs! more

Thank you Tony's. 3/15/2011

Some part under my car hood was making a whining noise. I took the car to Japanese Auto City to diagnose the problem. Broken alternator, they said, $250 for the part, $170 for the labor. I asked if they'd install an alternator I went out and bought myself. Sure, but it would take 2-3 hours at $88/hour. Thinking that price was ludicrous, I gave Tony's Auto Service a call. Tony's said the alternator replacement would take 1.1 hours at $96/hour. In the end, I spent $91 on the alternator (through a third party) and $105.60 on the labor - much better than the $420 I would've dumped at the other place. Thank you Tony's. more

Honest 3/11/2011

The management at Tony's has worked with me, accommodating my every wish. Through the years they have called me to provide updates, what they have found while doing services, and have pointed out some things that needed repairs, which I chose to delay - no problem. They are honest, conscientious and very professional. Before I took my car there I always saw vehicles from every government agency in town, so I figured if they trust them, what not me? Stepping inside their facility is honestly like stepping back in time 50 years. It looks, smells and appears very old fashioned, and they retain that amount of pride in their work, as well. more

Nice: Nice, friendly guys. 3/9/2011

To cut to the chase, I will definitely be coming back here. They are quick, reliable, nice, and HONEST. Quick: I took my car in for several repairs late Monday. The car was ready Wednesday. Reliable: They always returned my call. Nice: Nice, friendly guys. Honest: They had initially misquoted something for me. After having the error pointed out, they were not only totally understanding, but ended up nixing the charge altogether for that particular service. I also appreciated the printed out break down of each charge for parts/service. Love that they are so close to the metro station too. more

Go here if you want good service 3/4/2011

Go here if you want good service, a fair price, and you don't want to be taken for a ride. I've had my Lexus serviced here for the past few years and haven't had a bad experience yet. The work has always been done well, I've never had to take it back. Also, when they've found problems they've been honest in telling me what I had to get fixed now and what could wait (as opposed to service shops that will swear if you didn't get every last thing done that minute your car was in mortal danger of falling apart) and I've seen them do this with other customers. The staff also is just plain nice. Works for me. more

The best auto repair facility in metro-DC. 3/3/2011

Simply put, its the best auto repair facility in metro-DC. I've been going there for years and I trust them. more

Very professional 3/1/2011

Not only did Tony's fix my Jeep in ONE DAY, but they also did it for $1100 less than what Ourisman wanted for the work! They were very professional, answered all of my questions, and were always courteous and easy to deal with. This is my new go-to garage for ALL of my vehicle needs! I would like to send a HUGE thanks Jerry and the guys at Tony's Auto Service for making this experience much much easier! more

Highly recommended 2/28/2011

Free towing from the District to their shop. Alignments, inspections, and mysterious problems magically diagnosed and repaired. Simple, thorough explanations. Good prices, and respect for ladies. A passionate appreciation for the art of the automobile. Convenient location close to the Metro. Highly recommended. more

Repeat customer 2/25/2011

I walked in and immediately saw that Tony's is a certified Maserati repair shop, as well as a US Secret Service commendation for fine work. I think if both Maserati and President Bush were pleased enough with their work, that Tony's would be fine for my Toyota. My car had a weird vibrating/metal sound coming from the rear. I feared for the worst and though I'd need a new transmission. An associate at Secret Service recommended I go to Tony's who specializes in Toyotas. Tony's quickly diagnosed it as only a loose exhaust heat shield. They diagnosed, fixed and road tested it in apparently under .6 hrs, as that was all I was charged for. What a fantastic deal, especially when some garages would have just rebuilt the transmission to collect 2 grand from me. Tony's is also conveniently a block away from the Braddock Rd Metro, meaning I could drop off the car on Friday evening and Metro home. The only downside to Tony's is that they are closed on weekends so I dropped my car off on Friday evening but they didn't begin work on it until Monday morning. Whatever, for their honesty and good work, I'll be a repeat customer. more

Thanks for being honest and for giving me good guidance 2/24/2011

Amazing. As a female, I always feel I'm going to be taken when it comes to car repairs. I needed a ""30k mile services"" as recommended by my automaker. I called the dealership and they wanted $510. I called another place I often use and they wanted $329.99. Price quote was $96.50. That was to look at the car on a diagnostic machine, change the oil and any other filters as needed. Total bill $137 and some change. They also identified a serious problem with my steering gear (leaking), quoted me about $800 for the repair, but instead of telling me they needed to fix it...they told me to take it to the dealership. Even though my car is 4,000 miles past the warranty limit, they said, ""Go back to the dealership because that shouldn't break."" Thanks. Thanks for being honest and for giving me good guidance. more

Loyal customer 2/22/2011

Finding a good, honest, fair mechanic is like finding a dentist who doesn't try to yank your wisdom teeth on your first visit (true story dental story 1), or insist on a gum scraping when it's not necessary (true dental story 2). Tony''s Auto Service looks like the garage from Chico & the Man, but don't judge a book by its cover. Metro, many cab companies, and even the Secret Service apparently trust Tony's for their vehicle repairs, and I've used them for four years now for everything from state inspections, to major repairs, to body work (they're replacing a latch in my door even as I write this). Tony himself is a first generation Italian immigrant, and has operated a service station (Gulf) for decades (the one that used to be on the corner of Washington Street and Montgomery, for those native Alexandrians who remember the ""old"" Old Town). His garage is now located in walking distance to the Braddock Street Metro and a huge bonus is that I can walk to work from this location. The staff is professional and all seem to really love their jobs. One example of his fairness--a particular oil change place tried to get me to have their mechanic replace my brake fluids for $65 a few months ago. I said thanks but no thanks to this oil change place (that shall remain nameless, as I usually have good luck with this place). I took my car to Tony's, which could have seized the opportunity to confirm and charge me for unnecessary replacement. Not only did they say the fluids weren't needed, they gave me a courtesy alignment---they didn't charge me since they didn't tell me about doing it beforehand. Tony's has many loyal customers, and I'm happy to say I'm one of them. more

Tony's Auto Service is great.. 8/24/2009

Needed the VA inspection on a car from 96 that I wasn't interested in sinking a lot of money in. The dealership came up with a laundry-list of things, at $2000+. Mind you, I had just had a lot of work done out of state before moving to VA, so I didn't buy it. Took it to Tony's as recommended by a friend.. I needed a new light bulb. Done. Definitely going to be my car place as long as I live in the area. more

Tony's is Always Honest & Does Excellent Work 6/28/2009

I've been taking my family cars to Tony's for nearly 30 years. I know cars, and enough auto mechanics to know that they have treated me honestly all that time. They are not the cheapest, but charge a lot less than the dealer and they don't pad their bills with unnecessary work like dealers do. In the long run their reliable and honest work has saved me lots of dough. And I hold onto my cars for 200,000+ miles because Tony's keeps them running so well that there's no point in laying out the big bucks for a new one. Monica T sounds like a jealous competitor's fake criticism - - Tony's people are real and not slick smiley types. As for Theresa F., I don't trust the dealer's word over Tony's. I have 2 of Tony's rebuilt transmissions that have lasted as many miles as the first one. over nearly 30 years, there have been numerous times when Tony's could have charged me a whole lot more based on the car's symptoms, but they were honest and didn't take easy opportunities to pad the bill more
