So-so, definitely had better Hawaiian else where 7/10/2010

This was the first time at this spot and I kind of had high hopes. I ordered the two meat combo plate, the korean style ribs and kalua pork. I've been to several hawaiian restaurants and I kind of consider myself a foodie so I had high expectations. The price is a lil bit high for the category of food, but if it would've tasted great it wouldn't have been an issue at all. The kalua pork was dry and tasteless, just no flavor at all. I had to drown it in hot sauce to make it decent. The ribs were very good, unusually tender for that style of bbq ribs and the sauce was sweet and tangy without being overly sweet. The dish came with only a single scoop of rice, it was an average scoop. The tomato and cucumber salad was interesting, it was bold and daring with flavor. However it might not suit many people's tastebuds for sure. I like to give restaurants several tries before I make a yay or nay decision, so I will try this place another time with another selection off the menu for sure. The most disappointing thing had to be the Kalua Pork, it's supposed to be so full of flavor and this particular time it tasted like it had sat in a steam dish for quite while as the meat's natural juicy flavor had drained out of it as well as it being oversalted, just a let down there. Pros: Cucumber salad daring and bold. Ribs tender Cons: Slightly pricey for serving and kalua pork was dry more

Good food and nice atmoshpere 11/21/2009

This restaurant was a lot nicer inside than I thought it would be. It was a good variety on the menu and the service was right on. It was priced pretty reasonable also. Plus it's a good alternative to the same boring types of food. Pros: good service, good food more

WOW 11/9/2009

I had the Tommy O's pork with noodles and the tomatoes and cucumbers. I don't remember the last time I had a meal that tasted that good. That the pork was so tender and the perfect flavor and paired with the noodles was outstanding!!! I can't wait to go back! Pros: Best food I've eaten period! Cons: It's 3 1/2 hours from home more

A great place to entertain and eat! 10/21/2009

I absolutely love Tommy O's I have been a long time customer of their downtown shop and have been exited to have them open a new place in East Vancouver. Their food is wonderful, the New York steak is awesome as is their calamari. I love their late night happy hour and the beer selection is hard to beat. I recommend you don't listen to the haters who only order fish and chips and go try it for yourself Pros: Great food, Friendly service, Beautiful restaurant Cons: parking more

OVER PRICED - UNDER DELIVERED 8/24/2009

The prices are way out of line for what they offer. I went to lunch years ago down town and got the fish and chips lunch special - I was with a friend who got the same. When I got my bill it was over $20 for two small pieces of fish and soggy fries. I thought it was for both of us - no just mine. Pros: NONE TO SPEAK OF Cons: EXPENSIVE/MENU NOT LIKE DOWNTOWN more

Not worth the price 7/16/2009

First of all, it took the waitress about 15 minutes and asking another waiter to check on my order before she came back to say that they were out of the beer I ordered. I ordered the tofu lettuce wraps (expecting them to be like the excellent ones at PF Chang's), and they were just bland salad rolls, and too expensive for two little rolls. I then ordered the california rolls, and when they came out, it turned out to be imitation crab. That's one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to seafood at restaurants- if you're going to use fake crab, DON'T advertise it as real crab. Pros: nice atmosphere, beautiful restaurant Cons: too expensive, food was disappointing more

Good menu, slow food 5/18/2009

I really hope they succeed but you have to wait so long for the food to arrive it's crazy. I've been here twice now and had to wait way longer than you would expect for a good place. They latest took 1 hour from sit down to food arrival. If they don't improve I fear they'll go away like the Chinese they replaced. more

Best in the West 4/15/2009

I have been to both Tommy O's locations numerous times and both offer the best food, spirits and atmosphere to be found in Vancouver. Options are key, and you will find dishes ranging in price and preference at both restaurants. The lounge scene is spectacular and few can compete with their happy hour, not even in Portland. The staff in knowledgeable, the wine list is stellar and there is free music at both locations many nights of the week. Pros: Best food in SW WA, lots of dietary options, cocktails Cons: Sometimes inconsistent more

fun lounge, good food 4/12/2009

This place is really neat. I really like their fresh, different foods. We ate in in the restaurant for lunch and had a fantastic tuna sandwich and a carrot and jalepeno soup with maui chips. So good. Later that week we went to the separate lounge. That was such a suprise! A very cool place to hang out. Lots of loung-y seating, a man singing wiht a guitar, surf movies playing and a fantastic pulled pork quesadilla! One of the best places to relax for an after work drink in Vancovuer. Pros: something different more

What a joke 2/11/2009

The place is nice. The parking is a joke one entrance. The food is ok the price is high. It doens't cost that much to make the food they are making. Especially when you pay such cheap labor and I mean cheap. The chef is a east coaster, and all talk. They will not be open very long. Pros: thumbs down Cons: parking a joke more

CHECK YOUR VISA STATEMENT!!! 12/30/2008

My sister took me to the new location on 192nd. Great food but it was busy and the service was a little slow. My sister paid the bill with her Visa and left a very nice 25% cash tip but when she received her Visa statement it had a additional 20% tip on it. She called the restaurant and when they pulled her receipt they could see that she didn't leave a tip on her card. The manager was very nice and credited her Visa card. It pays to check your statement. Pros: Great location Cons: Parking is very limited more

Average food, above average price. 6/30/2008

The food here is so-so, not outstanding. The price is really absurdly high. I didn't love the food, and I really didn't love the bill. Pros: Nice clean place, friendly staff Cons: average food, high prices. more

I am in LOVE with Tommy O's 4/28/2008

It's true. What a classy place. From the great live Hawaiian music, to the cocktails, to the choices and proportions of delicious, DELICIOUS food. I feel the aloha spirit here - they are so very nice, and a great asset in community affairs. Take my credit card Tommy, I don't care, I always leave his place feeling happy and stuffed - I'm willing to pay a little extra for style and good food. As a picky Hawaiian restaurant reviewer, Tommy O's gets my vote as one of the absolute best. Pros: Cocktails! Great Hawaiian food and live music. Friendly. Cons: Far from where I live in Portland. more

WONDERFUL FOOD EXCELLENT SERVICE 3/26/2008

My family and I have been long time customers of Tommy O's. We enjoy everything on the menu and always have wonderful service. I highly recommend the Kalau Pork or the Katsu Chicken which are both my favorites. Also remember when given the choice always take the Macaroni Salad, they make it with just enough curry. I met some of my girlfriends last week at Tommy O's for Happy Hour and was super surprised at the menu and drinks. The coconut shrimp was a great way to start and the tropical itch put any cocktail I have ever had on the islands to shame...it was a great getaway even though I never was out of town. I highly recommend Tommy O's for either family night out or for meeting up with friends. IT'S A VANCOUVER CLASSIC! Pros: Comfortable Ambience and Tasty Island Favorites Cons: Parking more

Best Hawaiian Food in town 1/20/2008

This unique restaurant serves Downtown Vancouver well with it's easy going atmosphere and delicious Hawaiian food. I have been here several times and I have never disliked the food or the service, plus you are always seated right away, no wait! They have great appetizers and desserts too, and if you ever stop by for breakfast you have to try the local girl home fries! Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere, Location, Dessert! Cons: Occasionally parking more

Good food, but very rude and condecending 12/10/2007

After the review we saw about this restaurant in the Columbian, my wife and I decided to try a little bite one night after work. The food was good, but we happen to hear a man ask the bartender ""What kind of ****ing bartender are you?"" We were both horrified to hear that kind of language coming from a customer of the restaurant. We later found out that it was Tommy Owens himself. Apparently she was fired before we even left and the server who took care of us told us that she was the third bartender who has been fired since the opening in April. The one who opened the bar was fired for a reason that no one seems to know and the second may or may not be coming back. Pros: Food, server Cons: Owner more

Perfect for Lunch and a Movie 6/3/2007

Just tried Tommy O's for the first time today and it was great! We went in on a Sunday afternoon. Service was fast, the atmosphere is cool, and the food is SO YUM. Pros: Good Location, Delicious Chicken, Pleasant Decor, Prompt Service more
