As I was forced to patronized this establishment by a friend whom visited there the day before. I enjoyed the taste of the sauce at Tom Jenkins Barbeque, the ribs were just Averag...

Best BBQ in Florida 11/12/2008

I love barbecue. When I travel for business or pleasure, I search for the best BBQ in the city and the next time I visit I try another. I have ate BBQ in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Delray, West Palm Beach, Stuart, Vero, Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Melbourne, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa. Florida has some great BBQ restaurants, and some so-so BBQ, but I have never found BBQ that was on par with Tom Jenkins. Tom Jenkins has a sauce that is so amazing I would eat it on dirt. I am surprised that Tom Jenkins sells their sauce by the bottle because in an pinch this sauce can transform average BBQ into good BBQ. Since my office is in Miami, I keep a bottle in our office fridge and must confess I have used it on rotisserie chicken from Pollo Tropical and Publix. The chicken at Tom Jenkins is a thing of beauty. The breast meat at Jenkins is as tender and moist as the dark meat of a regular BBQ. I have no idea how they get chicken this moist and tender. Then they put on their sauce. It is the best BBQ chicken I have ever had. On a 1 to 10 scale my rating for their food is as follows: Sauce 10, Chicken 10, Ribs 8.5, Pork sandwich 9, Mac and Cheese 10, Baked Beans 9, Ice Tea 9 (their sweet tea is so sweet it could injure a diabetic). On the walls of Tom Jenkins are rave reviews from Ocean Drive Magazine, Florida Trend, Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, New Times and the Miami Herald. Barbecue lovers who reside in Ft. Lauderdale have no idea how good they have it. Pros: Amazing sauce, chicken, mac & cheese Cons: They need to open a Miami Location more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 10/9/2008

This and Jacks in Oakland park are the best and most authentic BBQ in town. Tom J's at lunch time is great with all the different walks of life sitting all together on big picnic tables. I want to thank them for the wonderful smells as I drive up and down Route 1. more

By far some of the best BBQ in town. Prepare to wait in line and have cash. Don't expect good service or even a smile, just good food. more

Service is terrible, nasty employees, avoid at all cost 9/24/2006

Non existing customer service, employees have a terrible arrogant attitude. Food is not that bad, but the employees make it a less than memorable experience. I will never return. Im 55 year old and never in my life have I gone to a place with such terrible service. more

Awesome ribs 5/22/2006

Great ribs. Smothered in BBQ sauce. So much that I asked for the sauce on the side when I went back a few days later to get more ribs. The sauce did not cost 50cents extra. It is of course included. The smoked ribs without sauce were just as delicious. No long waiting. Orders taken quickly and food ready within a few minutes. Pros: cheap, delicious, fast more

Not impressed....... 6/26/2005

From everyone else's reviews, I thought I was in for a real treat. Having been to some of the greatest bbq places in Kansas City, Memphis, and Texas, I'd like to think that I know what good barbecue is. Yes, the ambience was right for a good bbq joint. But the food - disappointing. Any decent bbq restaurant loads a sandwich up with meat - sometimes to the point where you can hardly bite into it. There was so little meat on the chopped pork sandwich here that mostly I just saw the bun it was on. Almost no bbq sauce was added. And, of what little meat there was, there were 4 pieces of pure bone. The final insult was that they wanted $.50 for extra sauce. The sides of collard greens and baked beans were good, though. more

SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!!! 5/9/2005

Just the best, my mouth waters only thinking about their food... The beauty is when you go no one complains of the wait, the small space, where you eat, your rewars is their food!!!!!!! Pros: The food is the best, the ambianace, the people Cons: none, none, none more

Tom Jenkins' is Unreal! 6/10/2004

I live in Weston and have to make the trip to Downtown Fort Lauderdale to pick up Tom Jenkins' Bar-B-Q. Everything is great! However, you must try the baked beans and sweet tea. This place is family owned and operated and you feel welcome there. Worth the trip if you do not live in Fort Lauderdale. I know of a friend that lives in Miami Beach and he often drives up to Fort Lauderdale just to get some Tom Jenkins. Don't bother going on Monday, as this is there day off! They also cater. Pros: Great Food, Tasty to go, Inexpensive Cons: , Tight Parking Lot, Small dining room more

Damn Good Chicken 3/7/2004

I'm on a low carb diet so there isn't much to choose from when you want to eat something that tastes really good so I decided to pick up a whole chicken from Tom Jenkins. You have your option of sauce on th side which really works out for me and on top of that it tastes so damn good, you seem to forget your on a diet in the first place. I go there everyday and don't get sick of it, but if you are on a diet I suggest you get takeout because everything else is just as good or even better you might not to stick to your diet for long. And yes the line could be long from time to time but it's worth it. (Constant fast moving long lines mean good food.) Pros: inexpensive, friendly dining setup, nostalgic ambiance more

barbeque so good that... 7/24/2002

I'm a California kid and CA is not bbq country, so I've had less than my share of top-notch cue. That said, my first meal at Tom Jenkins' damn near brought tears to my eyes. Every item on the plate was the best version of itself I'd ever had. Best smoked pork; best sauce; best mac & cheese; best greens; even (believe it or not) the best corn muffin. You can travel the world for gourmet cooking and then feel a bizarre enlightenment over your styrofoam plate at this place. Much more of a relgious food experience than I've ever had at any restaurant in San Francisco. more

Addicting BBQ! 7/16/2002

If you want real southern BBQ, this is the place. You get in line to order your food. Then you get to sit on picnic tables. The restaurant walls have vintage concert posters from the 60's and Motown playing in the background. Pros: Great food, inexpensive, fast service Cons: parking, Crowded at lunch more
