Editorial review from Citysearch 9/26/2012

Never Eat there! The worst restuarant ever!!! The food quality was horrible. They made a mistake on head counting and brought less food than ordered for us, so some in out party had to wait to get their food. On top of these they brought another table's check for us, and when I noticed and return it to them and asked for our check, they basically charged us twice! I went there again and asked them to fix the problem, but after more than a month they didn't care! JUST AVOID THIS RESTUARANT! SPECIALLY IN ARCADIA! more

worst place ever 2/22/2011

3 strikes and your out guess it was just my stupidity to think that a restaurant could really be this bad three times last straw was valentines day they sat us down and thirty minutes later after i got my own drinks from the bar i found manager and asked if i can order my food anytime soon so we ordered our meals (if you can call it that)each of our meals came about 15 minutes of eachother so we didnt get to eat together then on top of that food was cold! wako steak was way over cooked damn near beef jerky (NO LIE) never once did waitress ask us if we neede anything so was hard to swallow our extremely dry and over cooked food and the sushi ive had better at costco thats been sittn on the shelf for a week. then 35 minutes later i went lookin for the manager to ask for our check and told him what was goin on i undestand it was V.day but dining area was not that busy and he said sorry then walked away the hostess was completely embarresed by his behavior and apologized repeatadly she was a sweetheart so when i seen the manager i made sure i stuffed the check in his chest and let this micro mini pimp! know that he had no business managing a restaurant i own my own business and i have never treated a customer this way no matter how busy i get and he just looked at me with this stupid smerk on his face didnt offer any dicount or any type of way to make it a little better so i will never go there again and will let family friends and customers know about this joke I mean restaurant...shogun and RA sushi i am sorry for cheatin on you it will never happen again!! more

Not honorable, would not accept their own coupon! 1/30/2011

We have been longtime customers of Tokyo Wako, both Arcadia and Pasadena. On a previous visit, we were given two $5 coupons with no expiration date. They could be used together, as long as the bill was $20 or more (minimum $10 for each coupon). My family went to the Arcadia location today and we gave the coupons prior to receiving the bill, at which time we were told that the promotion had ended. We informed her that there was no expiration and even the strangers at our table said to her ""if there's no expiration, you have to honor it"". She talked to the manager and returned stating that they would not accept them. Needless to say, we made sure to deduct that inconvenience from the tip and promised to make this situation known in a review (or several). If you are going to hand out coupons with no expiration, be prepared to honor them. We won't be back to that location, if either location, again. more

Best food ever, Better than Benihana's and way better than Shogun~!!!! 8/18/2008

This is the best place ever, the food is wonderful the staff is great.. B and Ricco (he is a chef) are the frendliest people ever. If you have never been you have to try it, well worth every penny.. When we lived there we would go once a week, but unfortunately we moved. I really wish they would put one in Orange county (Ladera Ranch area) . They would do very well out here considering they do not have one comparible... more

Sushi Disappointment 3/17/2007

My husband and I visit the Arcacia area often and decided to try Tokyo-Wako. Although the service was good the food was a disappointment. I ordered a shrimp vegetable stir-fry dish, the shrimp was rubbery, were overcooked and there were no vegetables to speak of. My Husband had a chicken teriayaki dish. His chicken was overcooked also. I could have done better at home. What a disappointment!. Pros: Service was very good Cons: Food was terrible more

outstanding food and service 2/9/2006

Also they just opened a new one at rainbow harbor in long beach, walking distance from the aqurium of the pacific, right on the harbor. more

Definitely not worth the price. I could have made this at home...sautee/stir fry some beef, shrimp, scallops, onions, peppers...voila! Tokyo Wako at home! more

It's a fancy Japanese steak house 6/9/2005

This fancy Japanese steak restaurant have some nice food on the menu and also quite a decent service . But you have to know what you order , especially if you're ordering some sushi or raw fish. On the weekend is gettting pretty crowded, so rsvn maybe needed. If you preffered to sit at the teppan table, the steak / grilled seafood just prepared right in front of you , so you can see how fresh is the meat , order some sushi appetizer, that's what I like . Will come back. more

Tourist trap / gimmick 9/30/2003

Tokyo Wako is total Tourist Trap for anyone who's not too keen on real, authentic Japanese food. The worst part about it is that the quality of food just isn't good, all covered up by the ""glitz"" and ""flash"" of a brash, loud, bright ""Japanese"" restaurant (complete w/ stereotypical decor). Tokyo Wako has a Sushi Bar as well as Teppan Yaki (Benihana-like open grill where the chef cooks in front of you). The quality of both sides for food is terrible. Most people may be blinded by the cheesey antics of the chef as he flips, slaps, and clangs the food onto your plate. Service was HORRIBLE. :( I've been here multiple times and the waitresses and waiters are rude and condescending and slow. The food also took forever to get out, due to the Chef waiting to get the rest of the table filled with people. Stay far away! Cons: Expensive, Terrible Service, Bad Food more

wako wako 2/11/2003

I enjoyed this restaurant for what it is. A turisty sushi/show restaurant. In Pasadena, I sat at the sushi bar and noticed all the sushi chefs spoke only chinese. They also haven't a clue how to make sushi. The fish is of really good quality and freshness, but they smoosh it in their hands till it's mashed and warm. their knives are not sharp and their cuts are disgracefull. I did not try the other benihana type feature they have, so I wont coment on that. Pros: Very Fresh fish, affordable sushi, great for parties Cons: crowded, rude service, cheesy atmosphere more

Great cooking show and saki 7/18/2002

This was the first time that I had gone to Tokyo Wako-sure I have been to Benihana's, but there is no comparison. The food was excellent, they have great sushi appetizers, and the main course is excellent. I tried saki for the first time and it was great!! The most facinating part of the dinner was the chef and his great work in preparing the food...the fire volcano onion is great amusement for their guest. Anytime is a great time at Tokyo Wako-with a big or small group!!! more

Dinner and a Show/Show and a Dinner 6/13/2002

Wako is a great place to take friends and meet new people around the tables that double as cooking showplaces. The food is always well-prepared and flavorful. For a first-timer, the onion volcano and the egg-cracking maneuver are always impressive. I've yet to try the sushi bar, but have watched the chefs work, and they're very impressive. Pros: great show, good teppan Cons: can be pricey more

Something for Everyone! 5/19/2002

Check out the Sushi bar! I enjoy watching the Sushi being made and my dinner friends chowing it down - but I don't eat seafood. I order off the menu. The Hibachi Chicken is wonderful and accompianied by all kinds of great vegetables, miso and rice. The location is a favorite hangout for the Santa Anita jockeys ... there's also a great bar! more

Onion volcano erupting 5/16/2002

I still prefer this location of Tokyo Wako to the newer one in Paseo Colorado. You can meet some interesting people sitting around the big table, and the food is always very good. The steak and shrimp is delicious. And although I always opt for steamed, the cooking of the fried rice is a spectacle indeed. Better (and cheaper) than Benihana. Pros: floor show Cons: don't push enuf sushi more
