Impress Your Friends 4/24/2008

I went there for dinner with a friend this past Tuesday and I loved the entire experience; from the lovely drive from SF through the winding roads of Woodside to the superb service to the great food. The place was filled with young men in suits (I-bankers I assume), which provided me with eye candy to feast upon. The food was excellent, but what really impressed me about the restaurant was the casual elegance of the location, decor and staff. This is my new favorite restaurant in California. Period. more

Fantastic 12/13/2007

The VIllage Pub is simply excellent. If you want to be confident of a great meal on an important night, this is the place. They make their own charcuterie- a must try. Reservations are a good idea. The one problem I have had is sitting at the bar on a cold evening- every time the door opens, there is a large rush of frigid air; make reservations and you will not have a problem. One of the few places that really is worth a rather high price. more

Dress code needs enforcement; food and service good 6/29/2007

In this age of relaxed dress codes, I can almost tolerate tee shirts and jeans showing up at an establishment promoting fine dining (Village Pub used to have a dress code). But when our dining party witnessed the seating of a couple wearing hospital scrubs being seated next to us, it was not a pleasant dining experience. It would seem that a health issue would be a concern. While the food and service were good , I would not return because I expect a reasonable dress code at a fine dining establishment. Pros: Poor dress code enforcement Cons: good service more

Wonderful dinner and service 1/20/2007

Read the reviews, and seemed like people either loved it or hated it. My wife & I enjoyed it. We had the crab salad as an appetizer, the daube of beef and monkfish. The beef was excellent. The fish was ok. We capped off the evening with the chocolate/pecan pie and quince financier.....both were wonderful. The service was impeccable; all the servers were friendly, helpful but not stuff. I guess it's who you get? Not cheap....$110 w/o wine. more

Best Experience I've had in years! 12/16/2005

We've heard about the Village Pub in Woodside for years but finally got around to dining there last week. It was my wifes birthday and we had one of the best experiences in years. The food was outstanding and our server was extremely knowledgeable and gracious. We will definately be back and recommend it to all our friends. Better than most restaurants in San Francisco! Pros: Great Food, Gracisous Service, Cozy Atmosphere more

Good Name gone bad 11/18/2005

The Village Pub used to be a unique, romatic destination for the Peninsula. Sadly, not any more. Poor service, ordinary food, high prices. Like a C- San Francisco resturant Pros: near my house Cons: high prices, poor service, ordinary food more

Best ever? 7/31/2004

We went to the Village Pub to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It turned out to be one of if not *the* best dining experiences either of us have ever experienced. Everything was perfect. The ambience was elegant but not stuffy. The service was absolutely respectful and considerate without being aloof. And the food and drink was abolutely wonderful. With so many good restaurants in the area, the Village Pub stands out as something very, very special. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

A terrific haunt! 5/12/2004

What a great place! I found our server to be educated, which is different than being snobby. I enjoyed learning about the food and wine as much as I did eating it! Pros: great food, great service, excellent patio more

no way 3/13/2004

nice ambience, but ruined by food and attitude. Service was marginal and either snotty or incompetent in terms of knowledge of the food and wine, or both. I asked for advice on a buttery chardonnay (OK, not unusual for the area), and they couldn't think of one on the 25+ list that they could recommend except the most expensive, $150 a pop. I got the impression they would have recommended this bottle no matter what type of chard I had requested. Unbelievable. Overrated indeed. Pros: ambience Cons: , value more

Wonderful Visit 2/28/2004

After calling ahead for a lunch resveration (2 hour drive for us) we were pleasently surprised that they in fact saved a wonderful table and treated us very special. The food was good the service efficent. Great Experience. more

what a rip-off! 10/20/2003

We were promptly seated for 6:30 reservation. Atmosphere is very nice; and that was the only positive thing I can say about the place. Our server was very snobbish; and made us feel like she was doing a favor by serving us. We orderd olives and sweetbread as starters; and halibut for myself and duck for my husband. All the dishes were too salty. We orderd chocolate souffle as a dessert, which was dissapointing. Overall, it's too expensive for the food and service we got. Pros: nice atmosphere, parking Cons: hard to find, snobbish service more

Don't be fooled by the hype 5/30/2003

Probably the most overrated restaurant I can remember. I took about 6 people here for what was supposed to be a special occassion. The restaurant had lost our reservation but we eventually got seated. The menu was very uninspired. If they were trying for a home-cooked but nothing special series of dishes, I guess it was ok. However, the steak ordered by one of our party was fully cooked but arrived cold. Honest to God, cold to the table. We had to send it back but it took about 10 minutes to get attention of a service person to help. No apology, no reduction in the bill. Like the steak, it will be a cold day in hell before I ever go there again. Pros: near my house, seemed clean enough Cons: menu uninspired, food only adequate, service atrocious more

Woodside hidden secret 5/2/2003

This is a bit difficult to find - although it's on the main drag it's actually on the backside of the building. This is a great place for a special occassion. I went there recently for my birthday and the food was wonderful - great wine, appetizers, menu selection. This will definitely stay on my top list of great restuarants to go to in the Valley - there are only a handful... Pros: decor, service, food & wine more

Great dining experience 9/27/2002

My family and I had an excellent dining experience. Great menu. Prompt and courteous service. Great wine selection. Pros: Great Food, Good Wine List, Courteous service more
