A WONDERFUL ENDING TO A HORRIBLE DAY 4/21/2011

Let me preface all of this by saying, you need to look at my review for FLAVORS as well. I came to Saffron House after my debacle at Flavors and Im SO glad i did. It was the perfect ending to a horrible day. Here goes: I would like to think that im pretty well versed on Indian food considering I eat it at least once a week (and im Iranian --so its food from my part of the world). That being said, I must say that The Saffron House is by far my favorite after last night. I used to be in love with a place in Irving and a place in Arlington but The Saffron House was better than both. I dont like my food fiery hot and when I told the waitress MILD=MEDIUM i just knew I left the door too open. I was pleasantly surprised when my saag paneer came and it was perfect. It tasted a bit different that what I was used too. Far less grease and a deeper green. The owner came by and explained that the food was more North Indian than what I was used to. He was very personable and inquired about my meal and what I liked/didnt like about the cuisine. I also tried the garlic naan. I usually stick to regular naan but thought id give it a try. Even at my favorite Indian spot in Arlington, the garlic naan is too heavily saturated in garlic to enjoy but TSH got it right! It was wonderful. I dont think it was overpriced at all. Of course the buffet is much cheaper but I got dinner and I got it cooked to the spice level of my choice. I would definitely recommend this place. Oh and its beautiful with an awesome patio! You must check it out. I dont know if Im more happy with the owner making me feel so much better after my issue with Flavors or the fact that the food was absolutely wonderful! more

Excellent food, Excellent service 2/18/2009

So I had heard this was a good place for the family, which it definitely is, heard it was a good place for a date but my husband isnt that big of a fan of Indian, so they only way I could get someone to come is if I was picking. I took a business client here and it was fabulous. The food is perfect! LOVED the appetizers! They ask how you want your food so my client didnt get too spicy, I got spicy. VERY TASTY. I really liked the chicken tika masala, the one thats creamy. My client was Asian and said that it tasted really authentic. REALLY liked the atmosphere too! \r \r Another plus- the owner of the restuarant was there and happened to start talking to us! He has a great background in hotels/ management, Business- he related really well with my foreign client and me. Really impressed my client on my choice! The girl that served us was really nice too. \r \r The owner even gave us free dessert!! \r \r its not cheap, but its worth the money!\r \r GET AN APPETIZER they are so good! Pros: atmosphere, service, food, free stuff Cons: parking was not right in front of the restuarant, they get busy but still serve fast more

BEST PLACE TO TAKE A DATE 2/14/2009

I have read other reviews that were not that great about this place. THEY WERE WRONG. I took my date here for valentines, hoping for a upscale Indian Restaurant. I love different cultures and find this place to EXEMPLIFY the essence of India. I went to my indian friends wedding and he had catered from here and I LOVED IT. ITS EVEN BETTER AT THE RESTAURANT. There were so many people there but service was still PROMPT and the owner even spoke to us, came to our table and made sure our food was good. I REALLY RECOMMEND the chicken tikka masala and ROGANGOSH. my Girlfriend is veg she really like the GOBI MANCHURIAN. GREAT FOOD, GOOD PRICE, GREAT WINE. with how busy it was today and i still had an AMAZING time without spending too much! \r \r STRONGLY RECOMMEND. Pros: Ambience, Best for date/family, FOOD GOOD, FAST SERIVCE Cons: might be hard to find parking, you have to look, think they should move to bigger location/ open more restuarants more

Great Indian Place! 11/30/2007

I love coming here...the food's great...the place has a fine dining atmosphere without the fine dining price. Highly recommend their weekend buffet. Pros: ambience, food more

Worst Indian Restaurant ever been to...from food to service!!!! 10/11/2007

Well here's how it goes ....went to saffron on saturday night...ordered our food...after 40 minutes of waiting and no food had to ask waiter about how much longer...He hustled and got the food out in 5 mins. Also to note, it was not a busy night...it was just 4 families there including us. Worst food ever....malai kofta did not taste like malai kofta I ever had, not even close. Chicken manchurian....was with no gravy..Well may be it is my own personal experience...but I never had chicken manchurian without gravy in it.. So it was disappointing, we asked if we could talk to manager, coz there was no way we would eat that food. Manager happened to the Owner of tthis place, he tasted our food and said it is perfect and right and his excuse why its so different from other place for each dish ""THIS IS HOW WE MAKE IT, THIS IS OUR STYLE"", we in simple words there style sux. Also he was the rudest business man I have ever seen. His excuse for taking such a long time for food was: ""We had 3 take outs so they were here before you"". This was the funniest thing and most embarassing thing for a restaurant owner to say, my girlfriend whose family happens to own 4 Indian restaurants in NJ area told us that on an average days there take outs vary from 50-60 orders every night. \r \r Well to sum it up, unless you want to wait for long time and get worst indian food and then talk to rudest restaurant owner...dont go to this place. \r \r Good thing about the restaurant would be wide range of Menu but that would only be good if all that tastes good...and not ""THIS IS HOW WE MAKE IT, THIS IS OUR STYLE"". Pros: Wide Menu Selection Cons: Everything Else more

Not a place for Buffet 9/5/2007

We went for lunch buffet and were totally disappointed. Not many dishes on buffet and the fruits were raw and food was ok. There was no veg soup, only one non-veg soup. Just not worth the money. The service was not that great in the begining with dirty plates lying on the tables unattended, until the owner/manager came in.It's ok to try this place but definetely not worth the money. Pros: Good ambience Cons: Buffet not worth the money more

Not worth it 7/15/2007

Having heard about this restaurant from few of my friends in the past made me visit the first time since i came to the city 4 years ago. I was right not to have visited earlier and the visit was first and last. The food was OK not upto the quality for the price offered and quantity was average as well. I admit that the service was alright since they replaced extremely sour tasting mango lassi by adding some sugar and water etc in it.\r I have visited one of the more expensive and good indian restaurants in every city like new york , SF, LA, Chicago etc. and most of them lived upto expectations. I had the similar expectation from Saffron House but I was wrong. I still have to find one like that in Dallas area. Pros: Service Cons: Price, Quality, Quantity more

Horrible service by owner 5/3/2007

The hostesses were very sweet. However, once greeted by the owner (who waited on us), things headed downhill fast. My guest merely asked for a substitution (on a simple dish) and was rudely answered by the owner/waiter. I have never been so embarassed or ashamed for suggesting this place. I am extremely displeased after being so rudely treated. We left, and I will never return. There are many other Indian places worth trying out in the area. This is definitely the worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. Pros: Extensive Menu Cons: Horribly rude service more

Best dining experience 1/4/2007

I had a very good time in this restaurant. The food was delicios, for example, Malabar Chicken Curry an Chicken Tikka Massala. The service was excelent, very friendly and charmy waiters. I cannot forget the about the big variety of wines and oriental music that make the best atmosphere. \r Pros: Ambience,Food,Service more

WORST PLACE I EVER BEEN TO 12/18/2006

TO BEGIN WITH PARKING PROBLEM. TOOK LONG TIME TO BE SEATED. THE SERVER WAS MEAN. EVEN MANAGER HAD SAME ATTITUDE. FOOD WAS NOT UP TO STANDRAD.\r CHEAP WINES ANT HIGH PRICES. BAD WILL NOT RECCOMEND TO ANYBODY. RATHER GO TO INDIA PALACE. more

Can get much better food and service at a much cheaper rate elsewhere 12/7/2006

If you want to lose weight - both of your body and bank balance, then this is the restaurant you must eat at. The so-called ""favorite"" chilly chicken would give you a serious case of diarheaa. Its made with hot sause (found in Chinese restaurants) and sprinkled with raw onions unlike the traditional way of cooking it with bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. Its Mulligatwny soup is a disaster and tastes like un-spiced, unsalted dal (lentil soup). Moreover, the dishes are seriously overpriced. The service is also not worth mentioning as the waiter not only misplaces your order but talks back at you. Last but not the least, do not take coupons issued by this restaurant as they add a 18% gratuity to your bill if you show them the coupon, something which is not mentioned in the restaurant-issued coupon. They probably think that their customers would be poor in math and won't be able to see through their little scheme. In short, this is one restaurant I would never recommend to anybody. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food, Service more

best tikka masala in the world 9/21/2006

I never taste someting more better then the tikka masala at The saffron House.....is delicious. I have it with a Kingfisher beer and was awsome .I Highly Recommended this place for a taste of INDIAN CUISINE .Every body was really friendlly with me and my best friend , and the service was fast and friendlly. Pros: food, service and price . Cons: parking spot more

Most expensive cheap wine I ever had. 7/8/2006

We had lunch at this restaurant this was our second time and first time after the new ownership. The food was good and we enjoyed it but with the exception of that everything was average. \r Service: Service was average at best. Bread was brought to our table even after we had told the server that we would like to have some wine before eating and off-course it was cold when it was time to eat. We bought a bottle of wine after the first time it was poured had to ask server to bring it back out for another pour because they had to keep it in a refrigerator so it will stay chilled.\r Prices: Well this is where it get really outrageous. Price for food was perfectly fine but the price for the bottle of wine we paid was $42.00 that can be bought for $7.00 at supermarket. I completely understand the concept of markup for profit but there pricing seemed more like concept of gouging. As per there concept bottle of Dom will cost close to $800.00.\r Pros: Ambience Cons: Most expansive cheap wine served here. more

just ok 6/20/2006

Well lets start with the appetizers: We had Vegetable Samosa which were a spicy but a little dry and less than flavorful. We then sampled the Kebab Rolls, which were the highlight of the meal. They were very tasty with a nice blend of flavors. For the main course we ordered several things:Bhindi Masala-way to salty for our taste. The Chicken Tikka was overcooked, thus dry. The Lamb Vindaloo was nice and spicy the way it should bebut too spicy for the faint heart (so skip this one if you don't like lots of heat from spice.) We also had the Saffron House Assorted Bread Basket. The Naan was a nice pairing with the spicy flavors of the Vindaloo. \r \r The restaurant was clean but the atmosphere was not particularly intimate or cozy. The gentleman that we assumed to be the manager stood close guard over our waitress' service, which was somewhat distracting from the overall meal. \r \r Overall, while the food wasn't terrible, it is not a place that I would seek out for a night out on the town. more
