Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Worst

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are...

Standard Is Awesome! 10/24/2002

If you like the Hollywood Crowd, beautiful girls, and a very pleasant atmosphere, you gotta try Standard. Unfortunately it is very difficult to get in, unless you are staying in the same hotel. Tipping the body guard can help, but the best alternative is to go wtih a beautiful girl. more

Trendy............? 10/17/2002

I was very disappointed with the Standard. It was a very pretentious, wanna be trendy, snobish, overpriced experience. Beverly Hills/Sunset Strip it is not. I'll never go there again! Pros: Great View, Pool, Waterbeds Cons: Pretentious, Overpriced, Dull more

overrated 10/16/2002

The Bar was a perfect place to go until the entire city discovered this place. It is too small to accomodate the masses and I suggest that you get there early to avoid the long line. You should also shmooze with the people who operate this joint to insure guest list priveleges. Pros: hot-looking people, swanky atmosphere, good parking Cons: very crowded, service is average, i've seen door guys t more

Boozy 10/14/2002

Great party hotel and eye candy everywhere. Rooms are pretty affordable too. Pros: bar, scene more

Its as good as you make it. 10/14/2002

This may not be everyone's place to hang out, but it is definitely mine. After spending the previous night out hitting up some mainstream clubs, the Standard offers a great way to kick back and relax - the perfect end to an exciting weekend. The crowd is a pretty mixed age range averaging around mid to late 20s. I'll admit the service is weak, but on the other hand, they didn't get mad when we didn't place an order either. The food and drinks were expensive - so we didn't get much. The music on the other hand was awesome... big name djs drop in from time to time just because the place is so fun. (mostly house and trance) All in all, my day there - relaxing in the sun by the pool, talking with friends, dancing to excellent music - under $30. Pros: very relaxed, fun crowd, beautiful view Cons: expensive prices, a little cold more

Rude service not worth great atmosphere 10/3/2002

Given that the standard downtown is a very stylish and chic location with stunning views. BUT the horribly rude bouncers completely ruin the whole experience. Treating people like they do and acting like the place is too good for anybody isnt going to keep them being the place to be for long... more

No other like it in LA. 9/30/2002

The place is great. The view is breath-taking and the scene is very different from hollywood. Crowd is definitely older and much more playful. Drinks are pricey, would be the only downfall. Crowd not as Hip and attractive as it was when it first opened. Parking is also a pain, unless you actually want to pay the fifteen dollars. more

Great views don't make a great bar! 9/27/2002

Yes, this bar has a great view and decor! I agree the service is not good! The velvet rope act is ridiculous (considering they keep you waiting even when the bar is empty). Nice mixed crowd. Why is there no dance floor? Pros: Decor, View Cons: Bad Service, Velvet Rope Act, Overpriced more

finally a place downtown 9/17/2002

Coming from a city where you actually party in the city - this place has the coolest atmosphere; from waterbeds, pool, movies playing on the nearby building walls, outdoor dj etc all rooftop downtown. Yes, its another LA hard place to get into but take a trip - you can hang out here all night and if you need to...get a room afterwards so you dont drink and drive. Pros: rooftop, waterbeds, downtown atmosphere more

IT'S JUST A DOOR... 9/12/2002

It's a cool place, but it will never last with the attitude at the door. We didn't have to wait to get in but apparently it was full, which is fine, but the door girls were RUDE. And $20 apiece to get in? You're a little close to East LA to be thinkin' that's going to work for long. Not worth driving there to most likely *not* get in. Sunday service is cool, though. Just watch the attitude or you are as good as a has-been in this city....you never know who you might be p*ssing off.... Pros: good crowd, atmosphere, skyline Cons: bad service, expensive, downtown more

Good times in hollywood! 9/2/2002

A couple of weeks ago I stayed at the standard for four nights. I had a great room with a balcony facing sunset. I loved the orange tiled bathroom and soap. Comfortable bed. Great decor. Wake up late and have breakfast or coffee by the pool. They also have a decent restaurant off of the lobby. Great location walking distance to many attractions on the strip (skybar, barmarmount, comedystore)The bar opens at 10pm.Drinks are quite expensive but this is west hollywood.I had no problems with the staff. This hotel may not be for everyone, but if you travel a lot ,don't want to be in bed by 9pm, and want to have fun in hollywood. This place should do the trick. Pros: location, great pool, fun atmosphere Cons: overpriced drinks more

eye candy 8/24/2002

this is by far the best designed bar i've been to. the view is amazing, the funky waterbeds are fun, and there's even a pool for your swimming pleasure. unfortunately their drinks will cost you an arm and a leg. 9 bucks for a glass of beer is too much. more

Excellent 8/16/2002

From the moment you the elevator doors open, you startle at the backdrop of city buildings bustling in the nightime sky that seems to be a scene out of New York City. The ambience has an air of surprise and the Roof Bar is unlike any other place in L.A. It's avante-garde, creative, chic mixed with a younger crowd, suits, & ties. This is what the Redevelopment Agency dreamed of, though it comes 15 years too late. Pros: scenery, imaginative, night time theatre Cons: parking, rope gurus, few bartenders more

great view / rude door people 8/15/2002

In order to qualify as a hip, Hollywood-wanna-be bar like its sister bar on Sunset, I guess the people at the front door believe that they have to also be rude. Since our small group was not on "the list" we had to wait for 1 1/2 hour as compared to the 15 minute wait that we were quoted upon arrival. When we finally were permitted to go to the rooftop bar, the place was dead (Thursday night) and the crowd was lame. Thanks for making us wait and for the attitude. (One final note: our waitress was very nice). Pros: good view, nice bar Cons: poor service, expensive drinks more

The Standard Disappointment 8/14/2002

This club/pool area comes complete with velvet ropes manned by rude bouncers, $20 entry fee, poser/actor wanaabe types, horrible service, major attitude and overpriced drinks. Is it worth the hassle and expense for the great view? NO THANKS Pros: Great View, Design, Layout Cons: Attitude, Overpriced, Horrible Service more

Suprisingly good 8/13/2002

Breakfast at The Standard Coffee Shop is a consistently good value. Service is prompt. The food is excellent. Try a smoothie. I strongly recommend remembering to have your parking validated though. The validation will save you more than the cost of your meal. Pros: great food, opens early Cons: valet parking a must more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
