Best

We've been going here for years. The food is always great and the service impeccable. You cannot beat the fish for preparation and freshness.

Worst

I felt the food was of the same quality as Red Lobster, but much more expensive. Pretty typical chain quality. And, the calamari wasn't light and refreshing, but quite heavy and...

How is the world does this place stay in business 4/26/2008

Not being Denver natives, we had asked several people where to go for fresh seafood, they had suggested this restaurant. Obviously the people we asked have had very limited food experience. This place is disgusting both in it's decor and food. I struggle to put it into words... let's put it this way, we took our Romanian foreign exchange student there for a special farewell meal, and I actually ended up apologizing to this 17 year old several times because I was so embarassed by the entire experience. Pros: There are none Cons: Gross! more

EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED EXPERIENCE 4/19/2008

After reading the reviews, I was very excited to go have "...best fish in Denver." Even more, on their menu they have "...the best calamari in Denver." Not even close. The best calamari is still at The Black Pearl in Platte Park. The fish was Ok, by far not the best. I've had better at Jax and Itzakaya Den. I would highly not recommend going here. If you want the best fish, stay in Platte Park or Wash Park. more

Not what it used to be 4/4/2008

We used to love going to the fresh fish company as a way to treat ourselves, but the last couple of trips here have us looking for a new place. The prices are high, which I wouldn't mind paying if the quality was better than Red Lobster. The wait staff is still excellent. I am not sure if the chef is new, or the ingrediants are being purchased from a new vendor, but it is not the same anymore. I would still go here to eat, but am looking for a new "special" place to have that intimate quality dining experience. Plenty of parking is available. more

Grandma lost her tastebuds! 2/29/2008

This is my first review but I think people should know the truth about this place. Over the years I've heard a lot of positive reviews about this joint so finally decided to give it a shot. Walked inside and sat at the bar while waiting for a table. So far everything appeared to look good and didn't wait long to be seated. After being seated in a booth that looked like it had been there since the 70's, I had the opportunity to view my surroundings. Fish tanks everywhere which looked nice but nothing else. I agree with the other posts, it seemed like I was eating at Grandma's house. The decor was very outdated from the lighting to the glasses. This place definitely needs a facelift. Then there is the food. I ordered Filet with Crab legs. The bread they started us off with was good. Then I tried the clam chowder. It tasted like it was made last year. The kind I buy in a can is gourmet compared to that gruel. Then I finally got my meal. The steak was cooked perfect but was tasteless. I don't think they know it is good to use herbs and spices on meat. The crab legs were good, no complaints on those. The mash potatos were tasty as well but looked like they were scooped from a buffet tray. The steamed veggies were okay. Overall, the appearance of the food sucked. Everything just looked like it was thrown on a plate and did not have an appetizing look. The food was room temperature as well. Then it was time for dessert. Key Lime pie was the choice. I was really looking forward to this. First thought was "what the heck is this green junk on my dang pie?" It looked like slime. First bite I almost vomitted. My pie was room temperature! It was pretty tart but who eats warm key lime! That was bad. Overall, I am not very hard to please. I thought that this was one of my worst dining experiences and will never return. Food is overpriced, tasteless, atmosphere outdated, and service was average. I will stick to PappaDeaux for my seafood. Pros: Fairly fast seating and nice fishtanks Cons: food and atmosphere. Lets not mention being overpriced more

Worst restaurant of all time 2/28/2008

I don't understand how this restaurant has such a high ranking. The food was overpriced and cooked poorly. Our mashed potatoes were thrown on our plate with an icecream scoop I felt like I was eating in my middle school cafeteria, and it's been decades since I was in middle school. I felt like we were in a nursing home or grandma's house or something, they have these outdated doilies on everything and the entire restaurant is just decorated very poorly the food was not presentable and looked very unappetizing, because it was! The filet miniogn was overcooked and tough. Our server continually brought us someone else's stuff or took our stuff to the wrong table. He was mediocre at best, which by FAR supersceded the quality of the food. Then when I got dessert, I pulled out TOILET PAPER from my icecream!!!! I have never been soo disgusted in my life I nearly regurgitated right there at the table. The manager/owner came by shortly afterwards to apologize and "insist" on giving us a discount for next time, when I told her there would never be a next time she ignored me and gave it to my boyfriend instead because she just HAD to do something, HOW ABOUT MAKING SURE YOUR PEOPLE DON'T PUT TOILET PAPER IN THE FOOD YOU SICKO! This place should be out of business, if this restaurant was featured on Hell's Kitchen, Chef Ramsey would tear them a new one and then some. Don't go here unless you have pica and like eating fecal matter and toilet paper. Pros: The aquariums were lovely but some were filthy and empty Cons: Everything else such as food, cleanliness and hygiene of food! more

A very big disapointment 5/19/2007

On Monday May14th my family and I and our house guest from Ireland dined at your restaurant. It was very disappointing. Three of us ordered lobster tail and it tasted like it had been reheated several times. It was very tough and hard to cut and did not taste anything like lobster. The other three meals were very good. About a half hour after we left our guest realized he had left his camera on the table. We returned right away and were told they didn?t see the camera. Unfortunately we were very disappointed to hear this, as we are positive it was left on the table. I returned to the restaurant the next day to check again about the camera and the waiter said it definitely was not there and suggested we left it somewhere else. We did not go anywhere else. This left us with a very bad feeling of distaste for your restaurant. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: bad food and hard chairs more

Long John Silvers puts this place to shame 2/28/2007

We were given a gift card for the restaurant and finally made it there. We were excited to try this out. The sitting was fast, but a very uncomfortable booth they sat us in. We sat and after five minutes waitress came to take order for appetizers, we order the crab stuffed mushrooms and coc. shrimp. Waited at least a 1/2 hour to app. to arrive. Shrimp very dry and crab stuffed mushs. I think this was canned crab, both flavorless, absolutly no flavor to this food. Done with apps. waited another 1/2 hour at least for main meal. Catfish was one little fillet (Tasteless, no flavor) was it even catfish? The other fish (Cod) and chips. Where is the flavor to this food? I cannot understand why somebody would give this overpriced and flavorless food restaurant a good review. If I would of had to pay for this meal, I would of demanded a refund. The worse experience I have had in a restaurant. Long John Silvers puts this place to shame. Pros: Ice Tea was'nt bad Cons: No flavor to food, everything more

Best brunch anywhere 7/29/2006

On sundays they have the most amaxing brunch I have ever had! It is an all you can eat buffet of almost anything you could ever want. Not to mention all you can eat crab and shrimp. The buffet not only has many seafood dishes, but also traitional dishes like french toast or eggs. There are also many different types of deserts so that there is at least one thing for each person! The restaurant is expensive, but completely worth it. Pros: Brunch, Seafood more

Great Food... 3/24/2006

I have been coming to the Fresh Fish Company for 10 years or so and think I have only had one bad meal in all that time. The Calamari is one of my favorites and is done like no else has done and has a Coconut Curry Sauce thats to die for. I go at least once a month and love the Brunch and Birthday dinners. The only complaint about the brunch is that its the same seafood items, they need to mix it up a bit. Service is ok, have had a few problems there when its really busy. But over all I would high recommend it. Pros: Calamari, Brunch, Great Seafood more

Disgusting 1/30/2006

This was one of the WORST dining experiences we have ever had. Rude and unorganized service, horrible food and unclean surroundings. Not to mention completely overpriced. Don't bother! Pros: none Cons: overpriced, crowded, poor quality more

Don't waste your money... 12/13/2005

The staff is very unpleasant and the atmosphere meets the staff. Food is overpriced. I will not return. Pros: None Cons: Prices, Food/Flavor, Staff more

My East Coast Family Loved This Restaurant! 11/7/2005

Went to the Sunday Brunch with family in from Boston, it was the hit of the trip! They loved it! Food was great and our table was constantly brimming with crab legs. I have to admit I'm not a big seafood fan, but I enjoyed one of the best breakfasts ever! I was in heaven with the fruit blintzes, french toast, eggs benedict and those desserts! Our server was great, quick with refills, but didn't hover over us. We ended up staying much longer than we expected, but they didn't make us feel hurried to leave. Very friendly staff and manager. The downside for the family was the line to get to the food was too long at times. Best brunch we've found yet! Received a thank you card today from the family, they said we really know how to eat here in Colorado! Pros: Fantastic food, Friendly staff, Priced right Cons: Crowded, Loud, Lots of kids more

Best seafood I have had in Colorado 7/31/2005

I've lived in Colorado for 23 years, and this is my favorite place to get great seafood. I love the new selection on thier menu, and the sauces are great. The buffet has good food, but the atmosphere is similar to Country Buffet with people fighting you in line for food. I prefer dinner or lunch here where the true quality of their food is seen. Whenever I have guests here in town, I take them here and have never been disapointed. The ambience isn't as good as most other restaurants of this quality, but the food and service more than make up for it. For a romantic date, you need to request a quiet booth because there are some tables in the restaurant that I wouldn't wish upon to an enemy. I tell everyone I know to give it a try, and most agree that the food is outstanding. Pros: A+ Seafood, Friendly staff, Outstanding selection Cons: Some bad tables more

Not Even Close to Denver's Best! 3/25/2005

We went to the Fish Company and were disappointed as soon as we went in. It has a worn out tired look unless you are a "blue-hair" and absolutely no atmosphere at all, resembling a large banquet area where people are corraled in. The food was unremarkable, fish was tasteless and the sides were bland. Service was obtrusive on overselling but lacking in attentiveness. If people actually think this is a great seafood restaurant then they have nothing to compare it against. I'd never go back unless they tore it down and started over. Yuk. Pros: free parking Cons: overpriced, lack of atmosphere, bad food more

Great Surf, BAD TURF 1/11/2005

Great place for seafood; TERRIBLE place for steaks. The filet is tiny and gamey. This has happened to me more than once. I do not recommend getting surf and turf. Everything else on was more than adequate. If you want seafood in Denver go here. Pros: Selection more

Too Expensive 8/16/2004

Food was just okay. Don't mind paying a high price for an excellent meal, but this is not it! Salty crab legs, dried and flavorless primerib. My family was very disappointed. We will not be going back. I have not real complaints on service, just the quality of the food coming off the grill. Pros: Fast Seating, Attentive Staff Cons: , Value, Kid Friendly more

No Longer Best Calamari in the World 8/9/2004

I have been a long time client of this restaurant. I have to admit that the calamari has changed. Last time I had it it was doughy and very chewy. I didn't enjoy it. The rest of the food is still pretty good. I like to get the steamed mussels. They serve great sourdough bread which is great to dip in the broth. Served with a glass of wine, it is a full meal. I have always had good service here, but then I know most of the waiters, and request the good ones. When you tip well, you get good service more

Not Good 6/23/2004

July 2008 - Wow. CitySearch is saying 4-1/2+ stars, but the math, based on reviews, says 2.7 stars. Big difference! I wrote a review in June 2006 ? 1 star. I didn?t think I?d ever come back, but sometimes you just have to. It was a beautiful July 2008 evening. We arrived Friday at 6pm and left at 8pm. The restaurant was never half full (from what I could see). Based on my last experience and this experience (and from all the others for that matter) I can see why. Quality ? down, Portions ? down, Price ? stable, Service ? substandard, The funniest part (depending on your sense of humor) ? the waiter gives me the bill for $125. I review it, some items were overcharged, other items were missing, but the overall tab looked OK. I gave him my Discover card. He comes back with a charge on my card for over $180! When I asked what happened, he blamed it on the manager. They decided it was better to slip it by than talk to me. It got taken care of, but it was a good thing I was looking. Beware! June 2006 - Last night was my fourth or fifth visit over the last 20+ years, and I always leave wondering why I came back. I ordered the ? Maine lobster and 10 oz prime rib. Three bites and the lobster was gone - the prime rib was overcooked, dry and tough. While the waitress returned a few times to check on us, I would rate the overall service substandard. We never got the extra bread we ordered, when drinks ran out, she was not around, the wait staff rudely stretched over the table to place food, put pepper on salads and they needed help to clear plates. When serving the moist, hot towels at the end of the meal, and the rude across-the-table stretch proved to be inadequate they gave a slight toss of the towel to their guest! Good thing she could catch! Pros: Nothing - not for the price Cons: Food, Service and Portions more

Red Lobster Equivalent 5/8/2003

I felt the food was of the same quality as Red Lobster, but much more expensive. Pretty typical chain quality. And, the calamari wasn't light and refreshing, but quite heavy and slightly chewy. Pros: Prompt Service Cons: Too expensive more

Food not service 3/11/2003

I decided to go here as a first date. The lady I was accompanying is from the coast and I'd heard that the seafood here was the freshest in Denver. I made an online reservation with the discount, as I'd also heard it's not the cheapest place. The food was great, we both agreed. However the service was intrusive and when 9:30 hit the help kept glaring at us. I'm unlikely to return, especially on a first date. Oh, and they didn't figure in the online/off-peak discount either. Too bad. Pros: Quality of Food, Portions Cons: Noisy, Intrusive Service, High Price more
