I am in love with this place. A true LA bookstore.

Worst

I love their red velvet cupcakes and their carrot cake muffins. But if you choose to dine in there be ready for bad service (the waiter too 15 minutes to get us water and our dri...

If Disneyland were a mall 11/24/2006

You cannot get any more inauthentic than The Grove. It's made for Tourists and worse, Los Angeleno's have to suffer another faux reality and this time it's interfering with their shopping. If you want good shopping, check out The Beverly Center or Century City. If you want good food, click under restaurants after reading this review and find a place that isn't in an outdoor mall. The worst part of all of this is that once The Grove was erected, The Farmer's Market lost it's quaint, quiet charm, prices went up and those of us who cherished the nostolgia and precious nature of the market lost something special. It's simply not worth it. Pros: It's not going to physically hurt you Cons: Variety, inauthenticity, value more

Very nice outdoor mall 11/21/2006

I really like the Grove. With a huge parking lot with digital displays that show you how many parking spaces are left on each level, the movie theater which features limited-run independent films, and some very nice restaurants, not to mention the Farmer's Market, the Grove is a great destination. It gets very crowded on weekends and I generally stay away during the holiday shopping season. The restaurants are the real reason to come here, and the trolley is nifty as well. more

Farmer's Market Is an Essential LA Experience, Grove Is Not 11/21/2006

The Farmer's Market was a charming getaway in the middle of busy LA, surrounded by busy streets and the CBS Studios. Someone got the bright idea to append a shopping mall with chain stores to the adjacent lot, with mixed results. The shopping mall has the usual chain stores. It does have nice fountains, but it's nothing to write home about. The Farmer's Market itself hasn't changed much. It's a nice place to get something to eat, with lots of variety, and with nice areas to sit down. There is excellent produce available, along with other specialty foods. A very nice stop if you're in the area. Pros: Farmer's Market has good places to eat and buy food Cons: The Grove is nothing special more

PACKED-Get there early!!! 11/19/2006

It's super crowded on the wkends but I guess it's a nice theater. I mean what theater doesn't have seats, popcorn, people talking while the movie is playing? It is stadium seating but I'm not sure it's anything spiffy. more

Ultimate theater 10/30/2006

This is an amazing theater. Yeah, tickets are ridiculously expensive, but what's new. This is a great spot to bring guests visiting LA. Pros: Beautiful & in the Grove Cons: tix are $$ more

Great food but hostess is always a b!!!!!!! 8/6/2006

Great food. I will give them that, but on every occasion (3 times) the hostess has been a raving b!!! She seemed irritated that she had to seat us. When we arrived at the table she threw the menus down and walked away!!!! more

Pretty Good Food, slow service and boring atmosphere 8/4/2006

I went here for brunch on a saturday and it wasn't too crowded but the service seemed kind of slow. The brunch menu was large and featured a nice array of exciting looking dishes. The food was creative and tasty, however it was not the best I've ever had. Everything on the menu was also pretty expensive. The atmosphere is nothing special or wonderful and it was pretty noisy. Pros: Creative Menu, Good Food, Nice Location Cons: Expensive, Slow Service more

Old Hollywood style filled with ultra-hip urbanites 6/28/2006

The Grove is a decadent place to watch a film. Though initially it's easy to get discouraged by the ridiculous ticket prices, it's even easier to sink into the bucket-like seats and forget about any and all woes. The screens in the bigger theaters are like IMax's. Fork over more than a hour of minimum wage and get lost in the movies. Pros: Great seats, screen size Cons: High admission prices more

ORGAN GRINDER MONKEYS 1/27/2006

Although these theatres are fancy with plush seats they have made an embarressment of their employees. They force them to wear overdone costumes with hats that only an organ grinders monkey would wear. The tickets are over priced, barely affordable on the weekends. Yes they sell out ..BUT.. they are the ONLY theatre worth going to in that area. The parking is a royal pain and a MINIMUM of $2.00, often more. Traffic in and out is horrendous. TOURIST, TOURIST CAN YOU SAY TOURIST TRAP??? Really not worth the effort to go here. Pros: plush seating, stadium theatre Cons: pricing, access more

The Expensive Grove 12/2/2005

This is an outdoor mall connected to the Farmer's Market. There is a lot of stores and good restaurants, even a trolly to take you from the Grove to the Farmers Market and back for free. The mall is very nice looking and it is a big tourist attraction. Since people go to both the Grove & Farmers Market. There are plenty of touring buses that stop here. Overall, I found the Grove to be very crowded. The parking structure is a pain, you have to drive around in circles looking for parking. Many times having a long walk to an elevator or escalator. The mall is too expensive and crowded for me to shop there. Pros: Good stores, Good restaurants, Trolly Cons: Bad Parking, Mall Crowded more

Whats up with the thermostat???? 10/31/2005

The grove is unparallelled in the upscale look of the place inside and out of the individual theaters. It`s pricey, but many features make it worth the extra couple dollars. My only gripe, albeit a big one, about this place is it is FREEZING inside the theaters. 5 min after the movie commences, cold air is blown in your face thoughout the movie. Iv`e even complained during the movie and was told that other patrons had just complained and the ""problem"" would be fixed etc etc. It never gets ""fixed"". This has happened to me more than 5 times Matinees are just too cold to sit through. Can`t even imagine taking an elderly person or child into a theater this cold. Too bad they don`t listen to feedback about the temerature...because otherwise it would be a fantastic theater. Pros: roomy seats, clean Cons: cold, unresponsive staff more

Outstanding Hamburger 5/17/2005

Unlike some of the other reviewers, my experience at The Farm in The Grove has been great each time I've been. Their hamburger is phenomenal! I had my last one with gruyere cheese (you can choose from a number of cheeses), and I thought it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Their Ahi-Three-Ways Salad was pretty great as well. Yeah, the ambiance is kitschy in a way...but hey, it's called The FARM. And it's in The Grove, which is kitschy in it's own right, so take it for what it is! I thought the service was great...attentive and friendly. And yeah, it's not Carl's Jr. prices, but anyone that would rate a Carl's burger higher, won't appreciate The Farm no matter how good the food, service and ambiance is. Pros: Food, People-Watching Cons: Expensive more

Best of LA 3/7/2005

This is one of the nicest additions to LA in recent memory. When i moved here, i was pleasantly surprised to find this great place for shopping, movies, eating, and just strolling. They did a great job incorporating the old farmer's market into the shopping area. Not the greatest store selection - but the important ones are covered if you know what things you're looking for. Parking lot can be a mess to get out of on the weekends, but what else would you expect? This is LA after all. more

Welcome is not on the Menu! 10/30/2004

We came to the Grove location after hearing some people rave about the food. In reality, we were greeted by the reception lady who appeared like we were disturbing her busy day of standing around. After we were seated in the patio area, we waited about 15 minutes before anyone came out to ask for our drink order. Then the waiter disappeared for another 20 minutes after we ordered. Mind you, the restaurant was about 30% full at this point. We had to stop another busboy to ask for the complementary bread that we weren't offered. The actual meal was above average: crispy savory fries, a stuffed baguette, and quite tasty ahi tuna salad, but pretty overpriced in comparison to similar-classed restaurants. They made us feel as if we were priviledged to be dining there - those desiring service and value beware! Pros: Cute decor, food above average Cons: , reception unfriendly, overpriced more

don't go here 10/30/2004

this place is so overrated. the hostess barely said 2 words to us when we got there and looked annoyed when we asked for a table. the waiter took so long to take our order and never came back to check up on us. they had no reason to be slow because the restaurant was practically empty. they didn't give us the complimentary bread so we had to ask for it. the food is so expensive and it's not that good. Pros: trendy Cons: , bad service more

Tourist trap, beware 8/30/2004

I live next door to the Grove and have been to this theater at least a dozen times. Months ago I swore never to return. Why? How about lines 100s of people long outside on opening days for every showing, $11.50 for most night movie times, sell outs almost every Friday and Saturday, and even if you wait in one of those terrible lines for an hour and sprint to the theater you often get pushed aside and get crummy seats. Never again. Go to Arclight and reserve your individual seats on the web or by phone and save $0.50 at the premium theater! Pros: Nicely Appointed, Good Sound and Video Cons: , Bad crowd control, Ultra expensive! more

Not worth the money 6/6/2004

The Grove Location is overrated, overpriced, and just not worth it. It took our waitress forever to greet us and bring us drinks on a non busy Saturday afternoon, and basically disappeared for our entire meal, only showing up to drop the check. The food was only ok, and just not worth paying $40 for brunch for two. Pros: parking Cons: , poor service, bland food more

Love this place! 5/14/2004

This place is great! We walk over there for lunch frequently and they have, by far, the best hamburger I've ever eaten. The attention to detail with the food is excellent. Service has always been good. It is a bit pricy for comfort food, but I've never been disappointed. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: , Price more

Favorite thing at The Grove 2/15/2004

Aside from the mobs of good-looking people, great retail stores and plenty of food selection -- my new single favorite reason to go to The Grove is to get my bath salt fix at ""Sea Maid."" They have the cutest display and sell the most delicious-smelling bath crystals in all kinds of colors and scents. The employees (at least everytime I've visited) are ""attitude free"" and will help you create your own bottle. They even give you half price refills -- that always keeps me coming back. Pros: friendly service, good product, good selection more

Farm Love 2/5/2004

I was recently at The Grove and on my way to the movies, we had 30 minutes to kill, so I wondered over to The Farm. I had heard about it on several occasions. It really is cute inside, looks like a barn. The girl behind the to-go counter told me we could bring food from The Farm into the theater. I decided to just get one of their huge brownies and a blended coffee drink. We returned after the movie for dinner, starved. The waiter was very informative and directed us to an Ahi Three Ways and a Blue Cheese Crusted Steak, which was indeed amazing. I might feel a little uncomfortable eating a steak next to someone in the theater, but I will always get one on the way out! Pros: great food, pretty people, to-go & delvery more
