I really enjoy the workout - beats a gym hands down. I am getting better balance, reflexes and flexibility w/o running on a treadmill, like a hamster. I have taken Ed Parker's Kenpo Karate and some Judo before. I am really amazed at the depth of knowledge available in Kung fu compared to other martial arts -- it's a deep well. I have learned much more than in my other experiences. I am impressed with the concern for the welfare of the students and integrity of the chief instructor, Mr. Dan Taylor, and of Master Robert Jones. more

Great school! 5/13/2010

One thing's for sure; these guys know how to give a great workout! I'm having the time of my life studying kung fu, and I might have found something as fun as my yard. Don't quote me on that, though, I love my yard dearly. \r The instructors are confident and dynamic, and my kids love 'em. The school itself is beautiful and kept very clean. We get group classes, private lessons and we train according to our schedule.\r Pros: kung fu! more

Great workout and depth of knowledge 11/21/2009

4 stars is very good - have to leave some room for growth. I have been at AKMA for over 2 years. Dan Taylor, and of Master Robert Jones.\r \r Lot's of fun! I highly recommend :) Pros: Group and private lessons. Family friendly more

GREAT school for kids 10/29/2009

I have life long experience with martial arts, starting as a kid, going into the military, and as a policeman. For my kids, who are 5th & 6th grade, and who didn't get excited about team sports, this place has been wonderful! We tried the 2 free lessons offer. Mr Taylor, the chief instruction in Lynnwood, was very good with both my boy and my girl. \r \r Mr. Taylor has a very upbeat and positive attitude with the kids group, who range from 6 to 17. He's a master at handling them, directing them, and leading them into learning. It seems the physical conditioning and martial arts is just the very fun teaching tool for him - he does as much character development and behavior instruction as he does physical training.\r \r A few weeks after the kids started, I decided to take instruction too. It's not easy; in fact it must be meant to be challenging - but it's not over the top. I don't have to do full contact (like when I was a kid) nor do I have to do anything painful (as in the military). It's just about pushing myself hard to gain real progress. \r \r I can see the effect of Mr. Taylor's teaching attitude in my adult student collegues - folks who are more advanced in the training than I am are always willing to help, correct me so that I'm doing a motion correctly and safely, and very positive. \r \r I'm very happy with the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, and particularly with Mr Taylor, the chief instructor at the Lynnwood location. If you are looking for a fun way to work out, friendly people, an interesting body conditioning routine, or a great way to get your kids active, you should check it out! Pros: friendly, positive teaching style more

Out of 3 schools I chose this one! 10/24/2009

I've been a student at AKMA for over a year now and I must say I am stone cold sold. I'd been training at another martial arts studio before AKMA but was displeased when I found out about the dark history that studio had had. I signed up for classes at AKMA a week later and met the actual owner of the three schools. He was a real man who didn't pretend to be anything he wasn't. He reminded me so much of Clark Kent with his unassuming nature yet amazing ability. The initial beginning was a little awkward at times as it is whenever you're learning something new but I stuck with it and haven't regretted it one bit. The improvements in my daily functioning are too numerous, I can't even begin. I have developed many great friendships with the instructors and other students. I welcome anyone interested in learning a truly martial, fighting art to come down and try out a few classes. You can only experience the true spirit of this school by showing up and participating. I look forward to seeing you there! Pros: Great workout, fantastic instructors, individualized lessons Cons: Too many people under-commit themselves more

Mr. Taylor is an amazing instructor!!! 10/24/2009

AKMA is a supporter of the community by teaching self defense classes to women like me who have been raped and attacked or to prevent such things from happening again. They are sponsored by Children's Hospital because of the success they have had building confidence and respect for all others in the children's classes. My kids must have their grades up in school in order to attend class at the studio in Lynnwood. I have never met an instructor like Mr. Taylor who devotes his life's work to bettering the lives of all of his students. As for the adult program, there are unlimited group classes and private lessons for me and a great family discount for my kids, which makes it very economical. You cannot put a price on values, self defense, building confidence, and your health. Pros: Family oriented business more

WARNING: Its a scam and a RACKET 9/4/2009

WARNING: KEMPO martial arts in lynnwood and belleview WA Is a SCAM......My husband went and did the 2 free classes. First they made him buy the $50 Gee, then they made him sign a ""Temporary"" contract and he did the 2 free classes. afterword They brought out a contract that said ""If you decide to do our classes you will be responsible for the WHOLE amount wheither you show up or not"" and my husband signed thinking that in meant, IF, as in after he knew the price of the classes and said yes or no. \r Well after he signed the contract they told him at the end of the free class that it would be $184 a month. He told them that was too expensive and he couldnt do it and they said okay.\r Now we are getting bills from them saying we owe over $500. I called to ask what was up and they said ""Your husband signed a contract and is responsible for paying us even if he doesnt do the classes."" \r They then told if I called again they would charge me with harrassment!\r Thats not what the contract said but appearently it was worded in a way that allows them to charge even if you decide you cant do them. So the free classes are actually designed to get you to sign a scam contract!!!!\r \r Then they will hold you responsible for 1 full year of classes that you arent actually taking!!!!! Thats almost $2000 in total!\r \r DONT DO IT!!!!! Cons: They will take your money even if you dont do the classes more
