BEST THAI IN ORLANDO HANDS DOWN!!! 12/10/2010

I absolutely love this place. I have introduced so many people to it and everyone agrees it is sooo delicious. The chicken mussaman curry is the BEST I have ever had and the chicken thai basil is to die for. I go there so frequently that I have come to know the owner a little bit and the most charming thing is that she and her husband moved here from thailand and worked their way up as servers and finally bought their own little place....she has worked soooo long to finally own her own place and says that she wouldn't serve anything to her customers that she wouldnt serve herself. they are so gracious and humble. her husband is the ""chef""! The food is delicious and you must give it a try if you are craving delicious thai food! more

Perfect place to get Thai food craving fixed! 8/26/2010

I've been the #1 fan of this place ever since the first time I had lunch there back in 2008. The place is always crowded during lunch time. Lots of good food to choose from and the service is great! They always greet people with a big smile on their faces and I love that they are not too pushy to try to sell you something but as always I love whatever they recommend me to try. They do have the best crispy duck (siamese duck) with how sweet chilli sauce and the yummy Pad krapow that will never go worng with any kind of meat. Man! Talking about it makes my mouth watering, guess I have to go see them again tomorrow. more

Best Thai Food In Town!!!!! 8/26/2010

Awsome Thai Food! 4/25/2010

I visit this place at least once a week. Okay, so I only get one thing on the menu, but hey, it's very yummie. I always get their yellow curry with tofu spiced hot. Amazing taste and it's always good. I cannot say how the rest of their dishes are, but all of my friends who do get other things really like them. The service is fast and very good. I also really like the small appetizer salad with peanut sauce they serve with the meal. I don't know why any of these other folks saying this is a bad place to eat. I would take anyone there for a business or casual meal. Every time I'm there the place is packed. If the food and service were really as bad as some of these reviewers were saying, it wouldn't be so busy. I say the best testament to a restaurant's food is how busy it is ... and this place is always hoppin'. Pros: Nice atmosphere. Great service. Cons: None I can think of. more

I agree....Great Thai Food 2/18/2010

I really like Thai Place. It does get pretty busy at lunch but that is only because they have good food. Green Curry is what i get every time, and always have enough for left overs the next day. Pros: Good portions - enough for another meal Cons: gets busy at lunch more

Would HIGHLY recommend 6/20/2008

Having eaten at several Thai restaurants in the area, both my boyfriend and I keep coming back to Thai Place. Their food is DELICIOUS, the portion sizes are LARGE and the price is VERY REASONABLE! You will NOT be disappointed! Pros: Good food, large portions, reasonable price Cons: annoying waiter more

New owners don't make the grade 5/24/2008

As with others, I was highly disappointed when I found that the new ownership was not close to providing the same delicious food I had become accustomed to. The food is lacking flavor and is far from authentic Thai. It's a genrous rating to give them 1 star. I was thrilled to find a new Thai hme for my palate in Orlando when we visited Tasty Thai on Curry Ford Road. Try it. Pros: Service is friendly Cons: Food is simply not authentic Thai, very lacking in flavor. more

Avoid at all costs... 5/16/2008

First... Let me qualify this review by saying that I have been a regular lunch and dinner patron at Thai Place for over 6 years. I travel to Winter Park regularly on business, and always made it a habit to eat there at least once when I was in town (sometimes many times...). I was disappointed to hear that the management had changed, but figured, after not having been in there for close to 8 months that I'd give it a shot. Service... Nominally attentive... Nothing like it was... The new decor is semi-industrial... Interesting, but not really ""traditional"". The food... Absolutely noxious. I ordered Tofu Pad Thai, figuring that this was probably the least risky thing to try under the new management. When I finally managed to get past the scent of what was, apparently, BBQ sauce (yep... That's what it smelled, and tasted, like), I was startled to find that the tofu had been sitting for some time, and was, in fact cold, in stark contrast to the rest of the dish which was SUPER hot (yep... I suspect that the plate spent some time in the microwave...) The noodles were broken, and the portion (given the increased price) was fairly small. I tried hard to finish the meal (I was starving, having just come from the airport), and then promptly ran away. I'm disappointed at the death of what was a WONDERFUL Thai restaurant. I can't count the number of people that I've managed to drag in there over the years. A true disappointment... Pros: Ummmm... It's close to the Florida DMV? Cons: Avoid avoid avoid... more

We found the original owner in the Villages, Lady Lake 2/9/2008

I've been to this restaurant since it;s new owners took over and had a decent experience, like the new decor, but it;s missing the personal touch that its original owners provided, and had resolved to find where the original owners went. Through the grapevine, we had heard he was in the Villages, and so this weekend we undertook to seek out the new restaurant. We did indeed find it; it;s called SIAM ORCHID in LADY LAKE at 1561 Bella Cruz Drive, the Villages, Florida 32159. They are open 7 days a week, and right next to the Denny's on 441/27 just a bit up from the walking bridge on 441 in the Villages. We had a great experience, same food, same great owners, same attentive service. The new location is a converted chain place, quite a bit larger, but still the same sense of a family owned business. It has a large open kitchen, and the feeling is intimate, but bright and open. We loved it. From Orlando, you can take OBT (441) all the way to his door - about 55 minutes, I think. Well worth our effort, and we will be back. The place was packed on a Saturday night, and they are in their busy season. Tons of snowbirds in town. I had the green curry beef and my partner had hot basil chicken. Pros: Upscale decor, decent food, decent service Cons: just not like it used to be...missing the personal touch and the recipes o fthe original owners more

No longer good 8/19/2007

The Thai Place used to be AMAZING. However, ever since the new management took over a couple months ago, it is no longer better than any of the other places in town. Their curry is now bland and none of the dishes have that special flavor they used to. They should replicate the old owners' recipes, then the place might be good again. It's so sad! I want Old Thai Place back! Pros: none anymore Cons: raised prices, bland food more

Great food!!!!!!! Try it 6/11/2007

I'am a huge fan of Thai food, I have been to Thai Place for many times. However, I saw the sign, they r under new management with good promotion free Spring Rolls with the meal. We decided to try it!!!!! Pros: Friendly service and good foods more

Horrible since under new management 6/9/2007

Aghhhh!! What a shame.... This used to be the BEST Thai food in Orlando. I used to visit this place at least twice a week for years... Since new management took over, the quality of both food and service has gone completely downhill. As I'm sure they'll come to realize, the place is empty compared to the massive amounts of people they used to have in there every night. Kinda sad, but I just created this account to complain... The prices have gone up, recipes have changed, service is horrible. You definitely cannot replicate a good thing. When trying to get a small plastic container of extra peanuts for my meal...I was told I would have to pay $1.50!! Normally complimentary salads came with every takeout meal....not any more. The Peanut curry tastes way too sugary. Pad Thai s*#@s. Red curry is c@#$. We lost an unbelievable Thai Place. Try it if you dare...but compared to the previous management, this place deserves two thumbs down. We miss you Mr. Boone!! Pros: Nothing since new management Cons: Everything... more

Thai Place is now a memory... 5/20/2007

I had been a huge fan of Thai Place, sometimes going to luch twice a week there. Recently I visited and ordered my favorite dish, Shrimp Lad Na, and right away I knew something was wrong. It was horrible. My 2 friends who were having lunch with me, also ordering their usual Red Curry, were also disappointed. We found out, upon leaving, that the owners had sold the Thai Place. Sadly, our favorite lunch spot is gone forever. Pros: The menu remains unchanged Cons: The food is ample, but lacks real Thai flavor more

Not as good as other local Thai food 2/2/2007

Recently visited Thai Place for 2 reasons. I wanted to see what all the hoolpla was all about and also because they don't close at 2:00 pm like some of the other local Thai restaurants do. They serve lunch until 3:30 pm. which is real plus. They immediately place a small salad consisting of lettuce, tomato and cucumber with a pretty tasty peanut dressing which is a nice touch. The service was very attentive but the Tom Yum Goong and the Pad Krapow just wasn't as good as Thai House or Royal Thai. Twice I bit into some sort of herb in the soup that I had to dispose of immediately. That kind of ruined the rest of it. I didn't like the big chunk of tomato in the soup either. I don't believe I will go back. I'll stick with the restaurants where I know I wiil be satisfied everytime. Pros: complimentary salad, extended lunch time Cons: the Tom Yum Goong soup more

BEST! 1/26/2007

I agree, this is my favorite. Service is excellent, and I haven't tried anything on the menu I haven't loved. Try the Thai Iced Tea, Peanut Curry and Coconut Ice Cream for dessert. Amazing! Plus (for me) the portions are more than enough, meaning I can take home and enjoy for another meal. Pros: food, service, parking Cons: none! more
