Always Perfect! 2/15/2009

I love this bargain eatery. If left up to me I would eat here all the time. I wish their was one closer to my house in Venice. I suggested Tender Greens on Friday night, my friend works in Culver City. We had the hot plate with loads of fresh grilled veggies / half mashed potatoes, and some fabulous grilled steak, and simple salad of ceasar. I love the tomato soup so yummy. We split the toffee cup cake which was terrific. My only complain is that sometimes it is hard to get a table. But I always seem to get lucky! I will definitely be going back for sure. Pros: Great clean good food. Cons: Can get chilly outside and sometimes the heat lamps are all taken. more

Used to be My Favorite, But Beware of Disappearing Portion Sizes! 12/7/2008

This USED to be my favorite place in LA. My boyfriend and I have recommended it to everyone we know, even hardcore New York foodies. But our last few experiences there have been a big disappointment. The food is still delicious, and I still love the concept, but (maybe because of the economy, or maybe because TG has just gotten too big for their britches), the portion sizes are now fraction of what they were! We both ordered the Hot Plate with salad, mashed potatoes and Oxnard vegetables and took note of the tasty-looking veggies behind the glass while we waited in line. When we got our plates, though, neither of us got even one of each of the 5 veggies! Past experiences gave us a hearty heap! The last time this happened, disappointed, we asked for one or two of the missing veggie, and the server graciously heated a few on the grill and gave them to us. THIS time, when we took both plates back and asked for the same thing, the server (possibly the owner, which is even worse) rudely tweezered out two matchstick-sized pieces of parsnip and gave them to us?cold. It was like getting kicked by a friend! We had driven far to get there and were used to being so perfectly satisfied. Yeah, times are hard, but I?d rather pay an extra dollar than feel gypped and be treated rudely at Sunday brunch. Guess we?ll be thinking twice about recommending TG in the future? Pros: Good, healthy, organic food; Relaxed atmosphere Cons: Portion sizes get smaller every time! Rude service! more

Overdose of Radness 9/25/2008

Just went for lunch and had the Nicoise Salad with grilled cauliflower on the side and was blown away. It is fast, super fresh (you actually watch them grill the tuna/hanger steak/chicken/vegetables as you wait). I just love how high quality and convenient it is. Just go for lunch and breathe in the awesome. Pros: Amaingly fresh food, outdoor seating, and nice people Cons: none unless your a fool more

Go to Farmer Boy's for a better Cobb Salad. 8/11/2008

I have been looking forward to going to Tender Greens for quit a while to have a great Cobb Salad well the salad was not great. No blue cheese and the chicken was dark meat and way too much chopped egg. As we left my wife decided to check the menu to see if blue cheese was part of the salad and it was. They forgot the blue cheese. \r \r The Cobb Salad at Farmer Boy's on Alameda is much better and has chicken breast not dark meat. It is also $5.00 less. It also does not have blue cheese. Bring your own blue cheese and you have a great Cobb Salad. Pros: Good lemonade. Cons: Parking, long lines and no blue cheese. more

Great concept, a bit of a disappointment. 6/10/2008

After hearing raves from so many friends about Tender Greens, figured it was time to give it a shot. What seems like such a great concept - a simple, fresh, healthy, choose your lettuce, choose your meat experience - really was surprisingly so so. I chose the Nicoise and my wife ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich. Everything LOOKED fantastic. I was just a bit let down that the food was kind of bland, nothing extraordinary. Not bad by any means, just not that good. All in all, I'd go back because it was, after all, only $10 for the salad - and while that's not necessarily inexpensive, it's cheap enough that I'll head back to sample other salads in search of perhaps the one that is worth coming back for. more

Amazing deal, consistent quality time after time 6/2/2008

Tender Greens consistently serves excellent meals at mind-boggling prices, whether for lunch or dinner. (This is my ""best bargain in town"" selection as you would easily pay three times the price elsewhere.) Ingredients are locally grown and fresh. Service is friendly, thought the efficient order-at-the-counter model is very casual. This isn't fine dining but it is healthful, tasty food at an unbeatable price, in a very pleasant, clean atmosphere. Pros: Amazing prices, great quality ingredients (delicious, buttery mashed potatoes are NOT for the health-consious) Cons: Orders placed at counter, no reservations, crowded during peak hours more

healthy can also taste good. 5/16/2008

i used to always associate salads with failed diets and last-resort dining hall mushes of stale vegetables slathered in some sort of creamy, heart-attack dressing. tender greens is stories up from those two stereotypes. it's like the ultimate artisan salad- i had one of the big salads - a delish tuna nicoise with a bunch of wholesome veggies in it. it's vegan friendly and also had some big slabs of meat for those who want a little more than a good salad. i didn't try the soups, but they looked good- and they have sweet things too.\r loved their dedication to sustainable eating - a great plus. also, a good place to go for health buffs. more

I LOVE TENDER GREENS!!!!! 5/6/2008

The food is always consistently amazing. I feel so healthy whenever I eat there. It is worth the wait every time. I think it would be great if they expanded into full service dining with a beer and wine list at night. I would come every week! Pros: good food - good price Cons: long lines, prefer waiters to work with instead of runners more

Pretty Good, good value, fresh food 4/11/2008

I like this place. The food isn't comment worthy, but it is fresh and balanced, it isn't full of salt, fat or sugar like a lot of places, so it feels like you ate healthy. I like the cafeteria style and it is clean. more

Good Healthy Food at Reasonable Prices 3/13/2008

I heard amazing things about this place, so the truth is I expected it to be better than it actually was. That being said, it was pretty good and the prices are very reasonable. I like the fact that it is organic and that I felt healthy and light when I was done with my meal. I had the seared ahi plate. The ahi was okay. It was not great. It was not bad. I definitely was not up to upscale standards, but the prices reflect that. My salad was a tasty Ceasar. Again, not great not bad. I had a side of veggies and these were tasty, but were not warm and fresh off the grill. The tomato soup was decent, but nothing special. The lemon cupcake was tasty and I would have enjoyed another one if they were not sold out. It is good food for the money, but nothing to write home about. more

good food but overall experience not worth it 3/8/2008

OK, the food is tasty. But every time I try to go here the combination of the way too-long lines and the sometimes incompetent service behind the counter really annoys me. How hard is it to make a sandwich without mayo? Apparently very. I've also had times when I'm standing, waiting for my food after ordering and before paying where they've forgotten my order entirely. Maybe I'm just there when they are training new people. I like the food but would only try going at very off-peak times and when I'm not in a hurry. Pros: food Cons: lines, service more

Amazing, healthy, fresh upscale casual dining 3/5/2008

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is a great bargain. It's healthy, prepared fresh. Despite the casual feel, there is something upscale about dining under the stars. Pros: Warm heaters outside, amazing salads, good wine list Cons: Only the cafeteria feel when you order more

Great salads! 1/12/2008

I love Tender Greens! What makes this place good are the dressings. They make normal salads amazing. I definitely recommend it. Pros: Healthy, flavorful Cons: Line during lunch more

Average food for average prices. 12/8/2007

I'm not quite sure what all the hype is about. I mean, it's okay-- you stand in line and they scoop out salad, chicken, steak or fish on to your cafeteria tray. It feels kind of like a chain and definitely tastes like one. The food is not bad, but it's extremely standard. Even though it is clearly fresh, it has this standard flavor to its food that makes it seem like it was developed in some corporate office and shipped to the restaurant in a truck. The mashed potatoes are the perfect example. I'm pretty sure they are fresh, but they taste very much like they came from a box. And the prices are decent, but certainly not what I'd call a bargain. It's all just a little contrived in some way and definitely not worth the hype or the line, in my opinion. Pros: Always tastes the same. Cons: Long line, average food. more

Best Salads on the Westside! 8/18/2007

I adore this place! Talk about delicious and healthy and cheap! My husband and I eat here or take out from Tender Greens at least once a week and we've never been disappointed. I love it because sometimes I feel like being healthy and having a salad, but my husband is craving meat -and we can both get our fix and satisfy our cravings. My favorite is the steak salad with beets. Delish! more

Fast Food you feel REALLY good about! 8/6/2007

It's so delicious! I think I've taken just about every person in my life to Tender Greens. From old friends, to my new boyfriend. From my 87 yr old Grandmother to my 20 yr old cousin. It just seems there's something for everyone. The Ahi Tuna sandwich is my personal favorite, and the mashed potatoes are scrumptious. I love the spinach salad and on semi-cold days, i love their tomato soup. I hate how much i like this place, hah. Only because now people know where to find me at lunch. Pros: FOOD, price and Service Cons: Parking more
