Great salad, service 8/3/2006

I really enjoyed this restaurant; I ordered a cobb salad, and it was very delicious! Everything was fresh. The staff was very courteous, even offering to carry our trays to our tables. Great prices as well. One suggestion I would make is that they have outdoor heaters. We ate there for dinner & it got chilly without the heaters. But overall, terrific, I would come back in a second! Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Outdoor seating can be chilly more

Fantastic! 7/27/2006

Just went here for the first time today. It's right next to Ford's Filling Station, but really, a world away! The salad was DELICIOUS! I had the steak, and while I don't generally go for steak, I couldn't have been more pleased!! Filling, not too pricey, perfectly dressed. I can't make salads like this! I'll be back for SURE! I went at lunch, and while there was a bit of the line (because you order right at the front door), it didn't go by too slowly. And by the time you get the front, your food is ready. Besides, you got to watch the kitchen activity, and I love that! \r \r No problem finding seating, AND my friend and I could chat for as long as we wanted! (Unlike my Ford's experience). The indoor area is a tad noisey, but very well lit, very warm. With 2 hours free parking in the structure on Watseka, I don't know if it gets any better than this! I'm so excited this place is in my neighborhood! Do yourself a favor and GO!\r \r p.s. They have iced tea with my favorite brand of tea, Mighty Leaf, so, all in all, a win, win! Pros: Healthy, delish, fast Cons: Waiting at a busy time more

Heed the warnings folks 7/27/2006

Despite mixed reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I went there on a date and regret it whole-heartedly. I spent half the night in line. No joke: 38 minutes to be exact! It was chaos. No one taking orders outside of the plexi-glass wall, people in front of me deciding what they wanted and no one taking care of the people who were ready after them. Yelling over plexiglass - carrying my own drinks and dinner, on big metal trays, through a maze of people and tables to meet my date. And, worst of all having mediocre, FLAVORLESS food. My Mediterranean Salad dressing was bland and far too lemony. It was literally drenched in dressing and was barely edible. My beer was warm and my date's raw salad was too nutty, boring and relatively vegetable-less. What's up folks? Take the advice of other reviewers and cough up the 7 bucks an hour to have an order taker at the door. Pass out menus to people in line so everyone isn't cramming inside to see what's on the board - and use the million people behind the counter to bring out the food to the patrons. Haven't you been to Urth Cafe - they are a million times more crowded and popular and I have never waited longer than 5 minutes there? And, start serving salads and dressings with a bit more flavor. Someone pass the salt please! more

Great organic salads! 7/18/2006

I'm not an expert on organic food but I was pleasantly surprised when I went into this place and discovered that they specialized only in salads(pretty wierd for me). It's pretty cheap and you can pay 10$ for a filling large salad or 5 dollars for a small salad if your on a budget. I got a ahi tuni nicoise for 9$ with LOTS of seared ahi and quail eggs which I guess are organic too, and you don't have to tip since you just take the food to where your sitting! The atmosphere is nice and everyone is smiling and I could tell the food was good quality because I felt pretty healthy and happy afterwards.\r \r The decor is new, nice, hip, clean, and pleasant. A lot of hipsters seem to frequent this place and it adds a lot of color and style to this already happening place. I highly recommend it - cheap, healthy, and hip.\r Pros: Cheap, healthy Cons: Long lines, crowded more

Good food, order process needs improvement 7/9/2006

My friend and I went for a late lunch the first week they were open. I ordered a grilled vegetable sandwich and salad and it was fresh and tasty. The lemonade is the best I have ever had. Friendly staff came by so frequently to check on us it was almost annoying. But I'll take service in this town any day over the rudeness I experience so often! I chalk the following things I mention to the fact that they just opened. I would definitely go back, but I hope some improvements to the ordering process can be made first.\r \r I agree with some others here; the ordering process is confusing and the plexiglass/raised counter facing you when you walk in creates a strange barrier that is unwelcoming and unfriendly. I think having a person take your order out in the restaurant area when you arrive (and hand it to the line chef over the glass,) then you move down the line and pay with a copy of your order, get your beverage, take a number and get to sit down and relax until one of the 100 people that work there brings your food would be the best way to go. Daphne's in CC does this and it works great and keeps the cash register area clear. I did not like having to stand and wait at the register for literally 10 minutes while my food cooked. The menu board does not mention anything about being able to make a sandwich. A staff member told me this and had to quote me a price off a paper menu. I'm glad I got a sandwich and salad instead of just a salad, as the portion seemed a little paltry for the price.\r \r A suggestion from a vegetarian: you might want to cook the grilled vegetables on a separate place on the grill from the meat - have a little spot reserved just for veggies so they're not cooked where meat was. Pros: healthy and fresh Cons: ordering process more

Tasty, healthy, affordable and the owners aren't bad looking either!!! 6/29/2006

Tasty, healthy and affordable! Best carrot cake in West Los Angeles! Upbeat environment with a friendly staff! very clean! Pros: food, ambience, service more

Best salads for the best price 6/29/2006

It's considered a ""fast food"" place, yet the food is far better and better-for-you than any other fast food restaurant in the city. What's better, you can drink wine or beer with your meal (try doing that at In n' Out!), but if you need to go back to work after lunch, the lemonade is perfect. I'm absolutely obsessed with the Ahi Tuna Nicoise salad and the tomato bread soup, but I hear the spinach salad and sandwiches are good too. The outdoor seating is perfect; grab the big, private booth toward the back of the patio if it's open. Problem is they don't have a sign up yet so if you're driving by you'll completely miss it. Hint: it's right next door to Ford's Filling Station. Pros: Great salads, outdoor seating, great price Cons: No sign outside more

Amazing value-oriented healthy eating place 6/23/2006

I've now eaten at this place twice in the last week, and I think it's an amazing value for incredibly fresh and healthy food. It's a great location and atmosphere. They have a good selection of wine and beer, all inexpensive but high quality. The tomato soup is a stand-out, but everything has been consistent, from the salads to the desserts. Where else can you get a really good ahi tuna salad for $9??? Pros: Value, food quality, atmosphere more

Not impressed 6/21/2006

I was so excited for this place to open. I live blocks away, work in CC and love a great salad/anything fresh from the Farmer's Market. Plus, the owners' pedigree sounded great. I arrived at 2:00 on a Wednesday, to a mob scene. The place was LOUD - the acoustics, awful and the set up was confusing. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to place my order at the counter or the register - because the HIGH plexiglass at the counter made it seemingly impossible to order there. Low- and-behold, I WAS supposed to order there. Being all of 5'2 - getting them to hear me over the noise and the glass was a near impossibility. I finally translated by pointing and ordered the Raw Salad. The service was nice enough and quick - however, while waiting I noticed others struggle to be heard over the plexiglass. Why no one is waiting at the door with an order pad who could calmly interact with customers and pass their order along is beyond me. Anyway, I got my salad which was lackluster at best. My ""Living Dressing"" was no more than an unsalted mustard vinagrette. My 8 vegetables were MOSTLY celery greens and lettuce. Beyond lettuces, I got 2 cucumbers, two tomatoes, three thin strips of carrot, four radish shavings, 1 cube of avocado, and crushed cashews/almonds for $9.00. It was appaling. The salad was flavorless with the exception of the almonds (which were the only abundant thing on the salad)- but who wants to eat that many fattening almonds when dining on a salad? In their defense, the more robust salads looked great - so I will give them another chance. They just have a lot of kinks to work out to make the place more intuitive and visitor friendly. My advice... PUT SOMEONE UP FRONT TO TAKE ORDERS, AND,ADD MORE TO THE SALADS. WITH WHAT YOU'RE CHARGING - ANOTHER TOMATO OR TWO WOULD BE NICE!!! more

OK Lunch spot... not dinner... 6/20/2006

Living near downtown Culver City, we try all the great new places that show up. Tender Greens is an average lunch spot that is all dressed up for dinner. We had the Chipotle Chicken Salad which was just OK. The lemonade was very good. It seemed to us that the owner spent too much time building a very nice place that has this walk-through ordering process and didn't really care about creating memorable food. It's all packaging with no substance in our opinion. AND THEN... there is this little man who keeps chanting his mantra ""Happy and Healthy!... right?"" Healthy?... maybe Happy?... not quite. Pros: Nice patio but cold at night Cons: Nothing special more

Great menu, excellent quality ingredients 6/19/2006

Its one of a kind, if you are hungry and want to enjoy good food or you want to go by for some vino or beer and lounge outside, this place is worth checking out. They also have great deserts! more

Awesome Place!!! Great vibe, Price and People 6/19/2006

Had the Ahi Nicoise Salad, so yummy! Husband had the Tomato Bread soup which was AMAZING, he went back fro seconds. Everyone who works there is really nice and helpful. Wonderful addition to downtown Culver City. Pros: Parking, Price, Quality of Food and Service. Cons: Too much sun if sensitive. They have umbrellas on more

It's about time we saw something like this!!! 6/18/2006

Freshest vegetables around. Great breads, try the sandwiches as well. Fun atmoshpere. The ordering process is quick and easy and the outdoor seating is perfect on a sunny day. Try it out!!! more

When you just want a great salad 6/18/2006

Sometimes you just want a great salad, and that's what you get at Tender Greens. Our salads were fresh and satisfying - no where near 'rabbit food'. Also, if you get turned off by the wait at Ford's Filling Station next door, a great (and much more economical) alternative is just a few steps away. The waitstaff is ultra-friendly and we'll definitely be back. Pros: Friendly, fast, economical more

best roasted tomato basil soup - 6/18/2006

i went with friends on sat night. , shared a bottle of wine. food was great, atmosphere friendly prices were very reasonable. we had a great time - we will go back to try other menu selections. Pros: great prices food organic outside terrace nice more

Great Outdoor Patio 6/18/2006

Just what L.A. has needed! Affordable, healthy, delicious food with great staff and the best outdoor patio ever (with beer & wine!) The decor is beautiful and crisp, just like the food! It is a great place to go on a quick lunch break for a healthy meal or a leisurely Sunday afternoon for a bottle of wine on the patio! Pros: Service, locally owned, patio more
