Fav. Lunch Spot 10/25/2008

So this is possibly my new favorite lunch spot. Their pre fixe is cheap and really great. And they are abe to get you in and out fast which is great since I don?t have much time usually. It?s always sorta tempting to get a glass of wine though. I guess I?ll have to try it out for drinks or dinner some time! more

I ate at Tempo for the first time on Friday and was very impressed. The food was outstanding (I highly recommend the Duck with bacon roasted pears)! The service immaculate and genuine. And not only that we had a great bottle of spanish wine and with our food the check was still incredibly reasonable. I will definitely be returning soon, especially now that on Tues. and Wed. nights all of the wines by the bottle are half price. Hats off you you Tempo! more

I recently visited Tempo for the first time with a friend. I was pleasantly impressed by everything about this place. It was quite busy on a Saturday evening but we were able to find a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender was amazing with great conversation and excellent recommendations for wine pairings. Our dinners were superb. I had the duck pastilla rolls (OMG!!!) and the pork chop over polenta. Followed by the Molten Chocolate cake. I'm told that the gelato is made in-house and I found it to be excellent. My friend had the chicken dish and the sticky date and toffee pudding with whipped coddled cream on top- wow! The wine list is incredible. The atmosphere and decor are superior without a snobby feel. I highly recommend this place for a nice dinner. Again props to the bar tender for being an expert in her field and so pleasant to be around. Pros: Sticky date and toffee pudding & Duck pastilla rolls!!! Cons: none more

Only ONE Complaint 5/8/2008

The VERY loud music. My husband and I recently traveled from Boston to Brooklyn and dined at Tempo with our DD who lives in the neighborhood and her fiance. We were scouting the place as a possible venue for a small engagement party. The four of us purposefully ordered different appetizers, entrees, desserts, and wines and each of us sampled them all. Everything about Temp ... the food, the service, and the casual decor ... was wonderful ... with the exception of the VERY LOUD music. To me music should be in the background ... not foreground, should set a mood ... provide the proper ambiance for fine dining. Their choice of music certainly did not. To their credit ... when we asked if the sound could be adjusted, the wait staff was most apologetic and the sound was turned down. more

A Fool Proof Evening... 2/10/2008

My boyfriend and I are what you would call experienced resturaunt critics. We eat out alot and always rate the resturaunt on food, decor, and service. If all three stack up, we'll be sure to revisit. Tempo is where it all started. Weve been comming back for years. The food is amazing, something for me, the seafood lover with an eclectic palate ,who hates chocolate, and my boyfriend, the meat and potatoes kind of guy,who just goes nuts over anything covered in cocoa. The service is great , very professional knowledgeable staff from wine pairings down to spices ( i happen to be allergic to saffron, not always noted when used ). The decor is perfect , dimly lit and quiet on weekdays.Avoid Friday and Saturday night, between the music and clattering it is hard to truely experience the place for what its worth. It gives you the feel of an expensive "city" resturaunt without the bustle of cars , and a much more tentative staff , for a quarter of the price. Valentine's day is my favorite, the taste of the duck egg ravioli still lingers from last year. I have yet to have it somewhere else, that is even close to comparison. A must go! Cons: No Parking Ever, I Suggest Public Transportation more

My boyfriend and I are regulars at Tempo. It is probably our favorite restaurant ever. The food, the wine, the decor, and especially the service are all fantastic! The best thing on the menu is the steak for 2, I'm not even a steak person and I LOVED it! It's kinda pricey and parking is terrible there but its definitely worth it!! Pros: the food, the decor, the service Cons: parking, its kind of expensive more

My favorite restaurant anywhere, ever 12/31/2007

This restaurant is simply exceptional. I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. The menu is delightful - you could literally order anything and love it. My personal favorites are the goat cheese salad, the pork scaloppine, and the sticky date and toffee pudding. You MUST order this dessert. In addition to the spectacular food and service, they have an amazing wine list. We went this past weekend and it was my first time there since they switched to fixed price. We did notice some differences (one croquette instead of two in my goat cheese salad) but since that's something that we would have shared previously and now I had my own, I didn't mind. If you enjoy fine foods and wine, I cannot more strongly recommend this restaurant. Pros: outrageously good food, exceptional wine list Cons: none! more

Hidden Gem 8/29/2007

We recently found out about Tempo and decided to try it out based on all the good reviews. We were so impressed with this restaurant and the food. I have eaten at some of the best rated restaurants in the city and both my husband and myself felt that Tempo was one of the best meals we've had. The quality of the food, the service and especially the price makes this restaurant stand out. My husband has become obsessed with the polenta appetizer, and he usually hates polenta, but decided to try it. The duck roll is delicious as was everything from skate, to pasta with pistachio pesto to the Moroccan chicken dish. Desserts were equally good, especially the blueberry cake (the description doesn't do it justice). As other's have said the date and toffee pudding dessert was fabulous. We don't normally go out of our way to eat in Park Slope, as I feel the restaurants there are over rated. However, Tempo is an exception. I can't say enough good things about it. Go and enjoy a wondeful meal in a beautiful and friendly atmosphere.. Pros: service, quality of food, price, ambiance Cons: nothing more

Back in my high school days when 5th Avenue was a restaurant wasteland I used to go to Cucina with my family. Entering the space where Cucina used to be and where Tempo is now always sets me on a nostalgia trip. That is, until the utterly delightful food, service and ambience makes me fully appreciate the present. I've been to Tempo several times, and it just keeps getting better and better. Last night I had a delighful meal starting with a prosciutto melon salad, then moving onto a roast chicken with a divine sauce combining a melange of Meditteranean flavors, and finishing up with a citrus infused olive oil cake. Each course was exquisitely executed with a perfect balance of flavors. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Overall, I perfect night out. more

I have been to Tempo at least seven times within the past 4 years and recommend it to all of my friends. Especially with the pri-fixe I couldn't ask for more! The food is delicious and their service is great. I guess you can see that some people were disappointed but I strongly feel those were isolated incidents. Overall, you have to try this place! Pros: Food, Decor, Service, Ambience Cons: None more

Too bad the chef had to go and ruin it 1/18/2007

We were really impressed with this place - the staff is professional, the food is interesting and tasty, the decor is sophisticated but not stuffy - BUT while we were finishing our entrees, chef Michael Fiore came out of the kitchen into the dining room to chat with some customers he knew and proceeded to sit at our booth (no, I'm not kidding) with his back turned to us talking to his friends for at least half an hour. He did this without so much as an "excuse me," or "do you mind?" or even an acknowledgment that we were paying customers in his restaurant. My boyfriend, who is an executive sous chef in a top Manhattan restaurant, was completely shocked that a chef would exhibit such rude behavior to customers in his restaurant. Needless to say, we won't be going back to Tempo. more

Excellent find 11/7/2006

As a newcomer to the neighborhood, I was so glad to find Tempo. It's a restaurant that welcomes the combination of fine dining and educating the guest on different types of cuisine, wines, etc. The staff not only is warm and inviting, but knowledgable of its product and can comfortably give you the history. I absolutely reccommend going for dinner, you will leave incredibly satisfied. more

Impecable service and food altogether 10/22/2006

This place is incredible. My fiancee and I visit roughly every two weeks, mostly for dinner but sometimes just for some quiet wine-and-cheese time. We bring everyone from family and friends to Tempo and everyone leaves at awe! Service is the best part of the experience, with a waiter that reaches your table and refold your napkins while you visit the restroom. Food is fantastic - the serrano ham croquettas, Farro salad, tuscan fries (with a whole garlic clove and rosemary leaves), and the lamb are do die for. But make sure you leave space for dessert - the sticky date is by far the best in town... we know some folks that visit the place just to get the toffee pudding. Make sure you have reservations for a Sat eve dinner or you might find yourself getting too happy at the bar. Kudos to everyone at Tempo! Pros: Service, Food Cons: none! more

Best Overall Meal in Brooklyn(Park Slope)!!!maybe even the city. 8/26/2006

My friend was leaving town and we went to Tempo (5th ave and carroll) for a goodbye meal. It was amazing! The manager, Zach, was great at suggesting the best dishes at the place and they were all delicious. The wine selection was excellent, especially the homemade cherry grappa before the desert. The chef is a master, preparing incredible appetisers and a rib-eye to die for. My vegetarian wife loved it, and she never likes the fancy places, vegetarian options were almost better than the meats. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, without taking away from the exquisite quality of the food. Try the duck roll or the gravlax for appetizer, the pastas are all delicious, and whatever they did to the corn sidedish it was incredible. I highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner, a night out with friends or a special occasion. In all terms, outstanding!!! Pros: Delicious food, great service, lovely atmosphere more

I cant applaud them loud enough!!! I bring all the friends and family I can find to Tempo. I recommend them to all of my clients. They are the standard that all restaurants should be reaching for. They are the prize of Brooklyn that has all of the Manhattan eateries pea green with envy. As for the specifics, I love the duck pastilla rolle - -both spicy and sweet at the same time. Next I love to have the Pappardelle with Ragu of Wild Boar - -the pasta is like no other in freshness and texture, the Boar, is mild yet rich and delicious. I think that I have had every entree they offer and have never been disappointed with any of them. The pork chop and the lamb both stand way out in my mind, but they are often more food than I can enjoy after the previous courses. So I most often choose one of the fish dishes for the entree. The staff is unparalleled in both professionalism and knowledge. The service is full, with out being intrusive. The atmosphere is elegant, and as private as space will allow. The furnishings are rich, warm and comfortable, easily able to accommodate a party of any size. We had our entire family there for Thanksgiving dinner, a treat for sure, and now our new tradition. Pros: excellence across the board Cons: parking in the area can be tough if you are one of those who drive more

Wonderful Experience 5/18/2006

I brought my girlfriend to Tempo expecting to have a nice neighborhood meal - the result was a wonderful NYC dinning experience. I can say enough about this restaurant! It has a modern yet warm décor with Manhattan feel. There's an extensive wine list with very reasonably priced options. The clam appetizer was the highlight of the meal, though the lamb chop and shrimp entree were also excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. more

The Food was really some of the best I've had in the city. The setting was modern & interesting without being stuffy. Despite being a restaurant that attracted foodies, the prices were reasonable especially given the high quality dishes & creative menu. Would recommend the Goat Cheese salad & the Fregola w/ Shrimp-light & fabulous. The Clam appetizer did win votes as the best dish. more

Left Manhattan to venture to Park Slope due to gift certificate. What a find! Decor is warm, interesting artwork, flowers. Bar has a wall of wine bottles behind it (options in the $30 range). FOOD: Looked and tasted delicious! i'm a foodie and everything was fantastic. Starters of arugula with roasted baby beets and shaved feta on top, and mussel/curry soup with rizettes and a drizzle of some flavored oil. Mains were black seabass on top of pureed fava beans and an almond-date coulis. AMAZING! double cut pork chop with savory stuffing and dried fruit confit - yum. But the BEST THING: brooklyn blackout cake. I wish i had known and eaten that first. Fluffy & moist with chocolate pudding in between the layers. simply orgasmic if you're a chocolate lover. Service: attentive, knowledgeable, fun (not stuffy). I would go back there in a heartbeat - even to Brooklyn! more

Our food was late (60 minutes,) we called our waitress, she ignored us, and we had to ask the busboy to call her. One dish (of three) arrived cold, and 10 minutes before the other two. After complaining we were offered glasses of wine of the wine we were drinking. But were given a different, and terrible, wine. They removed our plates, without asking, before we were done eating; one of us actually had his fork in his mouth when the plate underneath him disappeared. They present a pose of a "high class' restaurant, but once they had do deal with human errors they lost it and had no idea what they are doing. It is sad, the food, if warm enough, could have been good, but alas ones taste buds are not as forgiving when the situation is unpleasant, tense, and frustrating. I suggest avoiding the place. more
