SO...Surprised someone hasn't posted a review for Taverna Plaka in awhile...this place is awesome- took a date here and it was really good food (you make the hummus at the table!)...

Major Disappointment 1/1/2006

Wow... What a let down. We made reservations early on New Year's Eve. We were the only customers in the restaurant. They sat us on the patio, which was FREEZING! and ignored us for quite a while. We didn't get theappetizers that were included in the price of the dinner. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Then the waiter added a 20% gratuity, which he didn't deserve or inform us ahead of time that he was going to do! When we changed it to 15% he had the nerve to come and correct us. In summary... lousy service, we were treated like lepers not being allowed to come to the main dining area, good food... SMALL portions, and an arrogant waiter! Won't be back... not worth it! Pros: good food Cons: small portions, lousy service, no atmosphere more

Simply Amazing! 11/10/2005

I've been to the amazing restaurant a few times, never a wait. The servers at Paka are excellent and the food it great. There was excitement in the air. As youre enjoying your meal the belly dancers come around for more fun, just bring your dollars ;). Reservations would be cool but not always necessary. Ive never made a reservation and my group has always been seated promptly, perhaps it depends on where you would like to sit. I went on a Friday night at 9:00 with group of 3 and was seated immediately. I can't really say it's an atmosphere for kids, but it was kind of cute to see an 8-year-old boy there with his dad tipping the belly dancer, I may be wrong but it was cute. Paka isn't really romantic, but how can a couple not see more in each other through the happiness they experience. more

My friends and I have had two or three large birthday parties in this lovely establishment. Get there early so you can hear each other but WATCHOUT!! At eight or eight thirty they turn the music up (think greek club music) and the bellydancers come out. I myself figured I would hate that part but they are truly intriguiging (sp?) even I as a straight woman thought damn how did she do that? The food ROCKS! Eat EVERY hot appetizer and the lamb chops are to die for. Service sucks but I think it is the language barrier. all in all as a former server, I still give this place a 10 because it is a hell of alot of fun! Dance on tables and throw napkins in the air as you scream OPA!!!!!! Pros: valet, smoking area, fantastic food Cons: servers, smile til face hurts more

I went with 4 of my friends, and we had the best time! The waiter was very nice and helpful in choosing what to get. The belly dancer was great, as well as all the other people dancing. The atmosphere was *awesome*, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the Gyro, shaved roast lamb. YUM!! I am already recommending this restaurant to all my friends and family. People are complaining about the service, but remember - this is a GREEK restaurant, not an American one; therefore, it will have Greek culture. Greeks consider eating out a social experience to be enjoyed and to last a long time. The waiter wants you to enjoy your time without interrupting you. That's the culture; do not get upset about it. Just learn to mold into other cultures and have a good time. Pros: atmosphere, food, dancing more

The service was terrible and the food was marginal at best. The worst part was that it took 40 minutes just for them to bring us our bill and then another 20 minutes to run our credit card. We had a large group so gratuity was added to our bill. By no means did the service warrant a 20% tip. To top it off, the valet asked me for a bigger tip since it was after 10 pm when we left. The only good thing I had there was the hummus they bring you to grind up yourself. That was very tasty and creative. However, I was very dissapointed after that. My food was so bad it was literally inedible, and the service was terrible. I guess it might be ok to come here if you are interested in partying with your friends, but don't expect edible food or good drinks. I was hoping for something better, but unfortunately I have to give this place a big thumbs down... more

My boyfriend and I went to Taverna Plaka after a friend recommended we go. It was a terrible experience! The back room was practically empty and we still had to flag down our waiter. The food was not good at all and over priced. I say thumbs down on Taverna Plaka. Cons: Food more
