SO...Surprised someone hasn't posted a review for Taverna Plaka in awhile...this place is awesome- took a date here and it was really good food (you make the hummus at the table!)...

Worst

In reading the 2009 review a light bulb went off. Change of ownership!! Ah Hah! Finally an explanation. While the menu is the same, the portions and quality are not. As onl...

What a shame! 6/11/2007

We have been to Taverna Plaka a number of times on trips to Atlanta. We live in a town that doesn't have decent Greek food, and TP never failed to please...until last night. It was our one year wedding anniversary and we chose TP because we'd loved it so much before. Pros: Great bartender Cons: Terrible wait-service, sub-par food more

What a shame! 6/10/2007

We have been to Taverna Plaka a number of times on trips to Atlanta. We live in a town that doesn't have decent Greek food, and TP never failed to please...until last night. It was our one year wedding anniversary and we chose TP because we'd loved it so much before. The first disappointment was that the bar didn't have any Tsiporo, which my husband loves. The bartender was wonderful, and we enjoyed talking with him. I think the wine prices are way too high, probably to compensate for the relatively inexpensive 'martinis'. We ordered the red pepper dip to eat with our drinks. A good sized bowl of it came, but with only one pita bread cut into four wedges. We got more bread, but it did seem odd. My first taste of the dip was astonishing. If I hadn't been told it was red pepper dip, I would have sworn I was eating off the shelf pimento cheese spread. Not nearly enough feta, and obviously bottled red peppers that didn't taste roasted. After perusing the drastically reduced menu (which has probably 20 or so 'mezes' (small bites, I think...appetizers, in other words ... and about 12 main dishes) we considered going somewhere else, and really we should have. We were seated inside, at our request, though it was clear they wanted to seat us on the patio. The evening was hot and muggy, and outside didn't seem like a great place to be to us. Our waiter was an experience. It really seemed he was drunk. We finally ended up settling on lamb kabobs (two skewers of about 4 pieces each, overcooked, with a few tiny pieces of overcooked veggies) which were served on a pita with a mound of tzatziki. No side. We filled in with the shrimp and feta. The shrimp was actually quite good. We also had lemon roasted potatoes -- as an appetizer?? The potatoes were undercooked and tasteless. Our bartender had told us they'd remodeled recently, and had new cooks. I suspect they also have new owners who are trying to cut costs. We won't go back and we're sad. Pros: Great bartender Cons: Terrible wait-service, sub-par food more

Very Entertaining 1/15/2007

First time to Taverna and I will be back. We didn?t have a reservation, but were seated promptly given there were only two of us. Great place for parties and large groups. Bring singles to tip the belly dancers. Throw caution to the wind and dance on the tables. The food was good. However, according to my date the menu selection and the portions have gotten smaller. Great service. Pros: Entertainment more

Go Greek 11/13/2006

Plaka is a great place for a group dinner. Enjoy decent food, delicious cucumber martinis, and bellydancers for a decent price. I once had a rude server but otherwise good experiences. more

Love the hair, love the purse, love the shoes...love everything! 11/10/2006

This place has energy! I had my birthday party here last year and it was a riot...From the belly dancing to the dancing ala ""hava nagela"" style, this was a place to have a ton of fun. Pros: ambiance and entrees Cons: it couldn't last forever more

Fun dining experience 10/17/2006

Taverna was accomodating of our large group in terms of seating us at a long table set apart from most of the other diners. The tapas menu had a decent variety of reasonably priced traditional greek fare from salads to flaming cheese. The belly dancers were entertaining and the entire staff participated in the fun. The only thing that could be improved was the service which was a little slow and sporadic. Pros: lively atmosphere and tasty fare Cons: service more

I was there last Thursday with my friends for a birthday party. I had nissiotiko swordfish and my boyfrind ordered lamb chops. Absolutely Delicious!! The music was the best mediterrenian I have heard so far in Atlanta. Dj Aris played every song we asked for. The drinks were not that great and the waitor not so friendly. Other than that, everything was AWSOME!! Pros: Music, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Drinks more

Go for the Fun Not the food! 5/17/2006

A fun palce to go with a group to watch the dancers and listen to the music, the food is not very good! Really Greasy, and not well prepared. Would not go back to eat, but maybe have a drink! Pros: dancers, music, fun place Cons: food, drink, crowded more

Bad food, bad service, decent atmosphere 1/7/2006

We reserved a table for 20 but got one for 15. Several people had to stand up during dinner. ervice was terrible! Those that got the family style meal did not get everything that was ordered. The dishes had tiny portions that did not go very far. They expected dinner, not an appetizer. 3 of us got entrees rather than the family meal. We reminded our waiter several times to bring them out. Mine and the other gal's were very cold. We sent them back and did not eat that night. We asked the waiter several times for drink refills that never came. When they turned on the music for the Bellydancers to come out, they put on a good show. Alas, they spent all their time in front of only two tables and would not wander through the restaurant. Large columns blocked our view for most of the performance. Pros: Bellydancing Cons: Poor service, Below Average food, Expensive more
