Great food, great portions, great environment 8/8/2007

I go to Taverna Kyclades often for their awesome food. The meats and fishes are fresh and cooked in a healthy manner. The portions are huge. The staff is great. The environment is very Greek. This is one of my favorite places in all of New York; you'll have trouble finding better taverna style Greek food. I had friends come in from out of town, and they couldn't get enough of the place. The only down side, which comes with any plce with such quality, is that at nights you may have to wait a little while. Only because people love going so much. But then again, the staff makes the wait worth it by treating everyone who's waiting to free glasses of wine. They often bring out complimentary dessert after your meal as well.\r Another thing you may find to be either good or bad, is that there are somewhat long periods between drinks, appetizers, meal, dessert and check. Being Greek, I can tell you that's a very Greek thing. Greeks like to savor their meals, and make dinners with friends big events; hence, no rush. But some people may just want to get in, eat and get out. It's more relaxed place than that. Overall, an amazing place. Pros: Great food, Great prices, Great staff Cons: Long wait Thursday-Saturday nights more

Vintage Astorian Greek 8/6/2007

Having first visited Astoria a few years ago, this was the first restaurant I tried. Coincidentally, it was the first Greek restaurant for me as well. I fell for this tiny eatery immediately. Grilled seafood is superb: try the swordfish souvlaki (kebab). Side dishes and appetizers quite exquisite as well. Be sure to order the sweet potatoes or the skordalia (garlic puree), accompanied by a seafood and a cucumber counterpart, along with which glistening garlic bread is served. Food is so plentiful that by the time the complimentary baklava arrives, it's a struggle to lift the fork. Be prepared for a long wait each time (once waited for 2 hours), since it's packed nightly. However, waitstaff is well-experienced, attentive, and gracious. Once was comped a whole meal when my dad commented that it was ""just okay."" Prices are extremely reasonable for seafood. Pros: Seafood, authentic Greek, Service Cons: Elbow-to-elbow seating, busy, long waits, no reservations more

big portions 7/8/2007

The 45min wait was well worth it and we ordered waay too much food as usual. The lemon potatoes were bomb and the calamari was perfect, lightly fried, the way it should be. For entre I had the grilled shrimp which was great, they def don't skimp on any portions here, money spent well, I'll be back. \r \r Ps: don't expect much on service, they will rush you. Pros: food, portions Cons: service, long wait more

ok...if you're Greek 6/20/2007

Recently we had our second visit to this restaurant. Our first experience was pleasant-- food good but not romantic for a quiet conversation. Our second visit -- the quality of the food was less than average. Also, both visits we noticed that parties of Greek people seemed to get better and faster service. Not cool at all. At the end of our frustrating night having to wait for our waitress to finish playing with someone else's child, we had to go to the front ourselves to pick up our own check we asked for 20 minutes prior. The hostess was very nice and apologized to us because she noticed us waiting. But next time we are looking to go to dinner on Ditmars Blvd. we will walk right on past.\r If you are looking for a nice dinner -- it is cramped and very loud -- be aware. Pros: excellent seafood -- great lemon potatoes Cons: very loud, very cramped, bad service more

GREAT Greek food 5/31/2007

I just moved to the neighborhood and my landlord reccommended this place. I'm not a seafood fan, but everyone else in my party was so we decided to go. Besides the 1.5hr wait it was AMAZING. The food is fresh, comes quick, and is pleantiful. I really have nothing bad to say.. I absolutely LOVE thier taziki and lamb chops. Pros: food is amazing Cons: cant make reservations and usually has really long wait more

Above par seafood 5/14/2007

Delicious fish and generous portions of entree's and sides. Salads very large and fresh with good amount of feta cheeese. Attentive service, even when waiting ( approx.30 mins.) for a table of 6 on a sunday. If you enjoy fish, consider the swordfish. Very tasty dessert was suprisingly included with our meal. Pros: delicious seafood, salads Cons: waiting time more

Just Love the Place 2/27/2007

They can get pretty busy and the wait line can be long( it has never been longer than 35 min for a large party of 8), but the food is totally amazing. The grilled octopus and the cold antipastos are cooked to perfection. Yes, the place is noisy, yes you need to remind the waitresses about you drink orders, but is the best greek food in Astoria and it's totaly worth it. the owner is very friendly and makes you feel comfortable offering wine or beer to those that wait and wait for a table. my family's favorite place to celebrate every single birthday. Pros: Great food Cons: busy most of the time, no reservations and long waiting lists more

THE REAL BEST IN GREEK 12/11/2006

I saw all the other greeks in tri state area. this place is the real deal. It is the best of the best. There is always a wait but trust me it is worthet. The fish is fresh as it came out from the sea just when you ordred it.Try to start with octopus salad, mixed meze plate ad of course greek salad. For main i love the sword fish. does;t matter if its kebab or the tseak. this is the best greek so far i eat in US. to drink for wine i reccomend the white retsina or try some of their small ouzo. \r the prices:)) trust me not even close to what it should be. The staff is very friendly, you wil be able to see the creator of this beautiful place. \r \r so try it :)) Pros: food, food, food :)) Cons: should be in manhattan more

Wish I was Greek... 10/1/2006

Dinner at TK is always a pleasure as the food is TOP NOTCH and prepared well. The swordfish, chicken and rib eye last night were out of this world. The stuffed shrimp continues to be one of my favorites while the Porgie was just OK. I still don't get the big deal about the Lemon Potato side dish, but clearly people love them. I'm a bigger fan of the Horta and the cold antipasto plate. Now, I just wish I was greek so I could just waltz up to the joint and get the first available table. Our party of 5 was passed over by 4 parties of 3. I've been here a number of times and continue to bring new people- who later come back on their own, but this busch league, borderline racism is getting old. The food will keep me coming back, but wait lists need to be honored. Pros: Food, Value Cons: Noisy, Service more

Amazing. So Fresh 6/29/2006

Had dinner here last night and everything was delicious. The seafood was so fresh. Had grilled octopus and grilled calamari as appetizers and red snapper for the entree. Everything tasted as though it was caught that day. Very pleasant atmosphere, not a quiet romantic dinner. Owner/Greeter were very friendly. Great staff/service. Reasonable price. Make sure you get the dessert, you will not be disappointed. Pros: Food, service, staff more

AMAZING!! 1/22/2006

I feel like my grandmother flew in from greece just to cook for me. The fish is fresh and delicious. The price is right and the portions are hearty. Need nothing else. more

Not recommended 1/20/2006

This place is not recommended on Saturday early evenings. Food was below average. Bread had a oil on it so it was messy. Village salad had a lot more cucumbers than tomatoes most likely because tomatoes are expensive in US and they want to earn more taking advantage of people who don't know about Greek food. It did not have oregano and peppers therefore it cannot be called village salad. It also had only 2 olives in the entire salad apparently for cost reasons. Service was not good. The people who were known customers had higher priority than us. Prices are average for this kind of restaurant. Finally the restaurant was too crowded and noisy (Saturday around 21:00), but hopefully that's not the case on other days. Cons: service, noisy, crowded more

best lemon potatoes of all time 7/27/2005

I only order the chicken and lemon potatoes here -- they are to be seen to be believed, so yummy, you crave them after a day or two of first having them. The owner/manager is a very warm and friendly person and treats you like he knows you. Classic Astoria, classic Queens, classic New York. Pros: Friendly, Food, Vibe Cons: Crowded, Small more

You must eat here!! 4/17/2005

This is the best seafood place in Queens...servings are plentiful and evey dish is delicious (except for the lemon potatoes). The peasant salad is a must, as well as the calamari (my favorite) and the red snapper. You will not be disappointed...trust me!! Pros: Affordable, Consistent Cons: Limited Drink Menu, Long Wait more

a neighborhood favorite! 8/24/2004

I love this place...very casual, a great value, a wonderful owner who treats you like the most valued customer even if it's your first time. my roommate and i love to go on a nice night and sit outside. the stuffed mushrooms are a must! enjoy! Pros: price, service Cons: , long wait sometimes more

Noisy noisy noisy! 7/31/2004

This place has good food thats a nice value; but either out outside, weather permitting, do take out or stay away!! It was so loud and hot in this place. Pros: Good food Cons: , No AC more

Always a pleasure!!! 2/2/2003

It's a surprisingly tiny restaurant with excellent food and excellent service. In weekends it gets busy and there is a little bit of waiting. Pros: cozy, friendly, inexpensive Cons: crowded in weekends, too small more

Everything a restaurant should be 12/21/2002

My wife and I had dinner at Kyclades last night and had a wonderful experience. We were made to feel at home the minute we walked in. Although we had a 15 minute wait, it didn't matter. My wife had swordfish and I had the lambchops...Both were phenominal. From soup to nuts, it was the one of the best experiences I have EVER had. The chef and greeter(the chef's wife) and waitstaff were phenominal...This place is a GEM. We will be back and making this a place we visit over and over. Pros: Wonderful Staff, Inexpensive, THE FOOD!!!!!! more
