Make it a day... 12/1/2010

Drive to Morrison thru Kittridge to Evergreen. Stop and have a great lunch overlooking the golf course beside Evergreen Lake. Then drive up to Tall Grass, a very pretty 10 to 15 minutes. Enjoy looking at all the very different homes and landscape along the way. Mountain lodges, mansions, quirky details and fences... wildlife if you are lucky. As the homes fade away - you are there, pulling into a one way loop for parking on a hill. Immediately at the door, you are greeted and invited to lose the shoes for slides and follow on for one of the changing rooms. A large room with fireplace, overstuffed chairs and couches greets you as your waiting area. Apples, pretzels and chilled water are available. The sliding door opens to a small patio with fountain. The hummingbirds visit while you wait and a hawk circles across the meadow. The spa is quiet and consists of upstairs/downstairs private rooms. . Everything is neat and clean and comfy. The staff changes but all are very adept and professional, respectful and anxious to ensure a healthy or relaxing experience. Afterwards, accept the steam shower that comes with the massage - enjoying the Aveda products there. In another wing of the house are salon services. more

Fabulous Facial 7/27/2010

I got the Ultimate Facial with Patty. Absolutely the best facial I have ever had. Wonderful Great Room and ambience and beautiful scenery. more

The works!!! 1/12/2009

The setting of this spa is absolutely fabulous. I got the works - massage, facial, lunch, pedicure and manicure. I would definately go back to this spa. Well worth the drive and the time spent. more

Best Day Spa I've been to! 2/16/2008

I have been to Tall Grass several times now, lucky to say. And each and every time the services were superb. The people there make you feel very comfortable. It is an easy going place, noone is rushing around to get to here or there, a very easy place to really relax! There was a mix up one time where I missed a quick manicure and the manager tried to get me in at another time that day, it really didn't matter to me as I live close by. So she got me scheduled for the manicure a couple days later and I did not have to pay for it. And then in the mail a day later was a note from the manager apologizing again about the mix up and hoped I had enjoyed the manicure I did have. Really felt like that was above and beyond customer service. Tall Grass is my place for relaxation and great service! more

My favorite day spa in Colorado 2/9/2008

From the magnificent view of Mt. Evans and the surrounding valley, to the warmth of the great room, the personal attention and service offered by every staff member and the wonderful services, this is the best day spa in Colorado. They make you feel at home and truly care not only about the quality of the service they provide but about your overall experience. The best way to spend a few hours or a whole day is at Tallgrass! more

Best Day Spa in Colorado 2/7/2008

This is a GREAT spa! Great service, always prompt (I've been several times now). They know the Aveda line very well, and never fail to make great suggestions without being pushy. I've always had a great experience, and recommend Tallgrass to anyone and every one more

Terrible customer service 1/8/2008

We arrived and they couldn't find our reservation. So we were asked to wait in the relaxation room while they sorted it out. The "relaxation" room was filled with people talking loudly and laughing so it wasn't looking good from the start. After waiting 10 minutes, the manager appears and tells us they can't find reservation and have no extra staff on hand so they couldn't offer any services, so instead offered us a gift certificate good for our next visit. Keep in mind, this place isn't just down the street. It's a day trip to get there. We weren't offered any services, not even a "you can at least take a steam". We had a guest in town, and wasted a whole day for nothing. Not happy with how the manager was acting, I went to the front desk to complain about it and was met with 6 women at the front desk who couldn't seem to care less about the situation. The manager did call us later to try to figure out what happened with our reservation, but in the end it was a wasted day. And although I understand mistakes happen, to offer a gift card and a half-hearted apology doesn't cut it. We won't be going back. more

Great spa in the foothills 11/13/2007

I took my third trip for a day of indulgence to Tall Grass recently. Each time I've gone, I've spent approximately 6 hours there, getting a package of some sort or customizing my own. This recent trip was very good, though others have been wonderful. Comments about why 'good' versus 'great': I was warmly welcomed the moment I stepped in the door. I went to change into a robe and went to the great room. It was a bit more crowded than I had seen ever, but I didn't give it too much thought. I went for a body wrap (wow! by the way) and it was excellent, but I do have to say that the treatment room was quite noisy (noises of walking, doors shutting, etc from above). Back to the great room for a moment before my massage. Interestingly, there are even more people in it. I go and get a (only moderately decent) massage. The therapist was very nice but her technique was not good (I get regular massages and have for years and thus think I'm a reasonably qualified judge). I talked w/ the manager after and she was very willing to listen to my feedback and made up for the experience entirely. Next I sat down for a (really yummy) lunch. The server was very nice and the room was momentarily a little less crowded Off to an outstanding facial and a really relaxing pedicure, but in between and after stopping in the great room and realizing there's basically NOWHERE to sit because there are so many people in there. One of the staffers had commented on how busy they were that day, but come on! It's a bit ridiculous to not be able to curl up w/ a magazine for a few minutes. I understand they're running a business, but it takes a lot away from the spa experience if you can't have some peace while you're there. Sorry, Tall Grass. You're my favorite spa, but I may not be back. Pros: Beautiful facilities, gorgeous location, lots of options Cons: Too crowded, sometimes noisy treatment rooms more

Ok, if you have money to just throw around 9/25/2007

Allthough Tall Grass is beautiful and the drive is wonderful, I have to admit that over the years the service has gotten snootier and the prices higher. They try to push as much product as possible on you before you leave and you feel like your in an infomercial the whole time your there. It is a great place but not worth the high price and the gas you spend to get there. I used to be a regular driving up from morrison, but most of my favorite techs have left or been let go, and it seems as if they dont keep up with regular trends and styles except in the hair salon which is always a pleasure to be in. The manicures and pedicures were normally outstanding but most of the best manicurist are no longer there, and for 65 dollars a pedicure you should atleast get a great french polish but sadly not anymore. One great ammenity is sitting in the great room and just relaxing, as long as they are not having a busy day. Most the time they will offer little extras like a hand massage while you are waiting or a complimentary make up application. The massages are usually ok but you can hear people walking upstairs and the opening and closing of doors. I will still drive up every so often to have my hair done, but i wont bother with the other services that i can get the same if not better closer to home for a cheaper price. I just dont think it is necessary to raise the prices every year for declining service. Once upon a time ago I loved getting services here, I want the old service and exceptional customer service back. Until then I will take my money elsewhere. more

Worth Flying to Colorado for 7/23/2007

I don't live in Colorado, but this spa is worth flying to Colorado for! Set in a beautiful mountainous area outside of Colorado, half the fun is just getting there. The spa is in a mountain lodge, complete with a fireplace in the waiting area. All the services I have tried are excellent--massage, couples massage, facial, back facial, and manicure/pedicure. The people working there are very friendly and genuine. A special shout-out to Tracy, who gives the best pedicure in the world... My feet are soft and gorgeous when she is finished with them! more

Great Spa, Great Location, Great treatment! 7/12/2007

I live about 4 miles from Tallgrass and go there whenever possible. The staff there is friendly and helpful. I have always felt welcome when I walk in the door. The views from Tallgrass are worth the drive. No other spa can beat the view they have! The view of Mt. Evans is truly spectacular! It is very quiet because there is very little traffic and what traffic there is, is only people on their way home as Tallgrass is very remote in the high country. The drive is not difficult and by the time you get there you are already starting to relax because you didn't have to fight the city traffic. I am a regular costomer and I strongly advise anyone to try their services. I have been to many spas, but this one is my favorite and will remain that way. I even take my family members there when they visit from Florida, Tennessee, and Texas, and they all love this spa. It feels as though you have entered an alternate experience, the moment you walk in the door. There is soothing music, a wonderful fragrance to the air, the mountian air is cool and clean (unlike the smog of the city), and there is jpeace and quiet. It is a wonderful place to go to remove yourself for the hustle and bustle of a very busy world. Pros: Location, staff, skill of staff, high quality products used in every service provided Cons: None more

Caroline7777 Seems To Be A Disgruntled Employee 4/15/2007

My wife and I are in the spa business in downtown Denver and I could not help but go to bat for TallGrass on Caroline7777's misinformed comments below. Technically we are competitors of Tall Grass but we used to frequent Tall Grass before opening a spa of our own about 30 miles away. We were very happy there and we happen to personally know a very happy nail tech who works at Tall Grass. Caroline, if you are not paying taxes on your tips, then the IRS will eventually catch up to you. Tall Grass, as with our business, are few in the industry who actually run their business properly and withhold taxes on tips. Others, I've heard, have been visited by the IRS already and are being run out of business. And, $14/hour is very generous in the industry. With tips Caroline, you should be making around $35,000 to $40,000. Not bad for a position that requires no 4 year education. more

Far better places than this one! 3/8/2007

I have visited this spa, and yet it does have a relaxing enviroment, the employees seem unhappy. I am too in the industry and have spoken with many girls that have worked there over the years. The ower is nothing less than a sweatshop operator and pays her employees about $10 and hour to bust thier rumps for peanuts. The average payscale in the salon/spa business is around 50% commission plus NON TAXED tips. This woman charges over $100 per service and pays out $10-$14 an hour? Then she takes the cash tips, taxes them and then pays them in thier paycheck. This is robbery and I can't belive she is getting away with it. Would you patronize a sweatshop if you knew about it? I sure wouldn't and I am doing MY best to get the word out. There are plenty of great salon/spas out there who know how to treat their employees and customers! DON'T WASTE YOUR GAS OR MONEY TRAVELING TO THIS PLACE!!! more

Declined service and value over time... 9/5/2006

used to absolutely swear by this place, and I was even a regular there. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, services were great, and the staff was friendly. They have always pushed Aveda products, but it never seemed to be that much of a problem, they'd tell you what they thought you should buy, or what products they had used, and then pretty much drop it and leave it up to you. Staff has become less friendly and accommodating over time, and prices have risen drastically. Clientele seem to have changed too and it now seems pretentious and stuffy. The past few times I have been there I have been informed that the staff members that I really liked have left or been replaced, and employees have complained openly about the rudeness and policies of front office staff and management. Unless they revise their customer service, attitudes, and prices I will not be returning. Pros: Services are always above average, facility is very elegant Cons: The drive, the staff, the attitudes more

Treat yourself - you're worth it! 7/11/2006

Luxury at its best. Every woman deserves the treatment you get here. Atmosphere is lovely. Services divine. You will feel like a pampered queen when you leave. more

Awesome!!! 1/28/2006

The drive alone is gorgeous! You immediately put on slippers and a robe, then relax in a cozy room with a fireplace. The services are exceptional and they even have a steam room. Our pedicures lasted over a month, and we all agreed it was one of the best pedicures we ever had(ask for the sisters). The nail area was so much fun, they offer you chocolate and you sit in big comfy chairs. The whole staff is wonderful and attentive. We will definitely come back! Pros: educated staff, warm atmosphere, beautiful setting Cons: books quickly more

A hectic day off! 12/18/2005

Yikes -arrive and drive up to a pile of wood covered in blue tarps. Once on the property the place is overgrown with weeds too over the top to be considered, "mtn rustic". You should see it in the winter w/o snow - ugh! The holiday decor of plastic snowflakes on the windows and whimpy holiday trellis set at the front door makes you think you are entering a kindergarden bldg. Inside, you'll wait in a noisy lounge for your appointment bc there is only a little steam shower that you "sign up" for. If they "forget" your appointment - which is likely, you'll get a free gift cert for another day that you can take off work and invest in driving up to Evergreen to try to re-use. This trick has happened to me TWICE - but I've also heard it happen first hand to others on multiple occasions. Pros: Only spa in Evergreen, Lg supply of Aveda Cons: Bad value, Messy common area, No group steam/sauna more

Escape to Nature 9/10/2005

A wonderful escape in the peaceful foothills! With all the treatment options, plan to spend the entire day being pampered. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the half-day package so much that I purchased a gift card for a friend. Pros: Free Parking, Assortment of Service Cons: Books Quickly, No Jacuzzi more

User review by pennyh00 8/10/2005

Finally a one stop elegant spa. Nails with "T" and hair with "J". I can breathe the clear air and totally enjoy myself for an afternoon or a day. No intimidation here. The spa is for everyone and the staff makes everyone feel special. The massage was the best I've experienced. I'm a regular now. more

Pressures Melt Away 7/27/2005

Tallgrass is truly a place where one can go and unwind, be nurtured and relax. From the moment you walk in the door you can feel the pressures of the day melt away. The view from Tallgrass' deck is glorious. I have been to Tallgrass many times and have never had anything less than a wonderful experience. The massages have all been topnotch and the steam shower is heavenly. I am grateful to have a place to unwind in this busy life and Tallgrass, is luxurious and warm and makes me feel at home. Pros: peaceful atmosphere, incredible hospitalit, professional staff more
