The wait staff is friendly and very effecient, about 30 seconds after my wife and I were seated we were brought a carafe of cold water, a small basket of blue corn and white corn chips, two small bowls of salsa, a not for the fient of heart salsa verde(wonderfully hot) and a milder smokey salsa rojo both very good. My wife, a dyed in the wool wine snob could find no fault with the house chardonnay, she ordered an aji tuna dish that she described as excellent, I ordered a shredded prok taco dish that was equally excellent. We shared a divinly decadent choclate cake/vanilla ice cream dessert that was as they say "to die for". If I had any complaint at all it would be that it was a little noisy but then it was packed and there were people waiting to be seated. It was no harder on the wallet that any of the other places in the Gables and, as I said, the service was a notch above most as was the food and drink. We will not hesitate to return or to reccomend or treat others to the experience. more

This place had been on my wish list for the longest time ever since I read about it's opening (and how it's the same management as Jaguar in the grove) and tonight my wish was granted. Food was muy delicious and the service outstanding. Great atmosphere too definitely be back for happy hour some time soon! more

--\r \r 1) Service was great. Both the hostess and the waiter treated us very well.\r \r 2) The food leaves much to be desired. The guacamole tasted like industrial lard. It had no texture whatsoever, as it was obviously whipped smooth in a processor. The chips were way too salty. One of us ordered fish, which we were told was mahi-mahi . It looked and tasted like Chinese tilapia, which was farmed in a Beijing sewer. I wouldn't accept food like this in a cheap Mexican takeout place and this place isn't cheap. $ 5.50 for a Dos Equis, that's a 550% markup in a casual restaurant (ripoff). I wouldn't return. more

The food is excellent , i think its good place to satisfy your mexican appetite, but the way the restaurant is ran is really not that pleasing at all. They manager or waiter were pushy and coming around the table way too much asking if everything was good and alright, almost if they were pushing me to leave, that was really annoying especially while i was eating. i also didnt like how the employees were looking at me almost like if they were checking me out. In other words the restaurant isnt ran professionally and i dont think ill go back to eat there, they make me feel really uncomfortable when i do go. more

Ok, so everytime somebody tells me that they are taking me to a Mexican Restaurant (a true Mexican Restaurant) in the US (NY and Miami), I have my doubts about how Mexican can this restaurant be, and the idea of Mexican food that the people who invite me have... \r Being that I am Mexican, of Mexican parents and with a long tradition of amazingly good cooking from both sides of my family, I would like to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised when my cousin, who lives in Miami took me to Talavera... \r The food was true to it's name, I really felt I was 7 years old, and eating at my grandmother's kitchen in Puebla... the smells, the taste, the colors, the ambiance, the beautiful Talavera plates... everything, was out of this world... \r So, congratulations to whoever was responsible for bringing this little piece of Mexico to Miami! \r Thank you from the bottom of my heart...I am now a True Believer... more

Fabulous dinner! We "fell" upon this place and were pleasantly surprised. Guacemole was tasty, the corn tortillas were outstanding (fresh, homemade, warm), and the house speciality huarache grill was delicious. Presentation, taste, texture of food was fantastic! I wish I lived in Miami so I could come to dinner more often. Added bonus.....great price for the quality of the food and friendly, attentive staff. more

I have been to this restaurant twice for lunch. They have great specials. Soup and a salad. The food is very good, fresh and clean. The atmosphere is very nice. Try it. Not your typical Mexican restaurant. more

Tonight we felt like traying a new restaurant in the Gables were we have enjoy excellent restaurant in the past. Talavera was a new place and decided to try it.\r \r Appetizer: Guacamole was disapointing, a bit under seasoned and with pork skin bits that come from the bags you buy at the grocery store.\r \r Drinks: Great Margaritas \r \r Main Dish: The carne asada dish over priced and not well presented. Eventhough it was tastefull the poor presentation did not helped to justify the price. The mole coloradillo ( I think that;s the name) was a good dish. A braised short rib with a mild spice sauce with the house rice. Well balanced, and a nice hidden sweet touch.\r \r Dessert: The churros are a good choice, however its size is quite overwhelming. Two Churro strips on dulce de leche with vanilla ice cream, walnuts and a FULL BANANA. I would say the walnuts were not necesary, and the "Crambulised" banana was too much. Just the churros with the dulce de leche and ice cream would have done it perfect.\r \r Overall, the place was decent, however dinner dishes are overpriced and plastic cutlery in the salsas and some condiments didn't match with the decoration. At first we thought it was going to be a geat dinner, it end up being not a memorable one. more

Tried Talavera for lunch recently and was not disappointed. My friends and I each had very good Don Julio Margaritas and some guacamole to start. The Guac was tasty, and I loved the tiny homemade flour tortillas they brought with it. I ordered the cactus salad, which was very good and not slimy (if prepared incorrectly cactus is as slimy as okra). everyone enjoyed their meal, and the check was reasonable. Service was excellent. I will definitely be trying Talavera for dinner in the near future with my wife. more
