Addictively Good! 3/29/2009

""What a find! When my wife and I moved our family from Pacific Palisades, LA to Bainbridge Island, WA we considered the quaility of the schools first and the access to great sushi second! I envy anyone living within driving distance of Napa Valley's Sushi Mambo. Pros: Creative, Fresh and Addictive Cons: Tough to Get a Table; Impossible to get the Counter more

Absolutely Terrible Experience!!!! 3/26/2009

I have no clue how there are so many positive reviews on this website! Must be the owner signing up under different accounts! My friends and I had a terrible experience at Sushi Mambo. There were 6 of us there but only 4 that ordered any food and we were still charged 18% gratuity!! I'm sorry but $134.87 seems a little pricey for 4 people to eat. The service was ridiculously slow and the food took forever to come out! I will never eat there again and have told EVERYONE I know never to try it. Pros: NONE! Cons: Terrible Service! more

Sushi Mambo combines great sushi with a friendly staff. 2/28/2009

Sushi Mambo is always a treat, starting with the warm greeting from the sushi chefs as we enter. The fresh, deep red Ahi in the cases catches our eye as the creative rolls and artistic platters come forth from behind the sushi bar. Sushi Mambo is our favorite restaurant in Napa. The friendly and talented chefs deliver delicious, eye-pleasing sushi accompanied by a healthily side order of humor. Sushi Mambo takes us back the neighborhood sushi experiences of the 80's that got us hooked on sushi in the first place. From the ""Raw Deal"" roll to the ""Just For The 4 The Halibut? and the ?Whatever?s Clever? rolls, premium fish, generous servings and creative preparation are the strong points for this ?not to be missed? Napa dining experience. Pros: An overall outstanding experience more

Best Unfiltered Sake and Fresh Sushi 1/28/2009

My girlfriend and I have visited Sushi Mambo many, many times; in fact we remember the old building where they use to be housed before moving to the current location; that is how long we been loyal customers. Our loyalty is based on the high quality of food and the atmosphere createdby the ownership and the staff alike. From the welcome in Japanese of the Chefs to the corteous thank you from the hostess at the end of the meal. No wonder these place is always busy! We will be back soon for another delicious meal. Arigato Pros: Great quality of food Cons: Business Volume vs. Available Space more

wonderful 1/26/2009

I only recently moved to Napa from the City and have been craving Sushi, with no idea of where to go. There are only two Sushi restaurants in Napa, from what I have heard. I was told that Sushi Mambo is the one to try. I sat at the bar, on a Saturday night. Still early and not very busy, the place slowly began to fill up. There was a nice jazz music playing, and then the hum of customers enjoying a night out. I realized I was in a good place. My chef, tall and blond, told me he learned to make Sushi in San Diego, at a Japanese restaurant there, and said he is graduating student of the Culinary Institute of America. His accent from Tennessee and his blue eyes was far from being asian, but his sushi is die for. Also he was fun to chat with!! Very nice guy!! Pros: fresh fish, beautiful presentation, professional service Cons: limited wine menu more

What a Wonderful Place! 12/8/2008

My wife and I started going to Sushi Mambo on a about a year ago. Their friendly service and delectable cuisine has kept us coming back. In fact we found the atmosphere so soothing and the fresh sushi so inviting that we have dubbed the end of each week ?Sushi Friday? and make the effort to go to Sushi Mambo for lunch or dinner. The sushi chefs are not only skilled at their art, but charming to chat with as well. The sushi dishes are creatively named and the ingredients seem to blend together in delightful combinations of scrumptiousness. The service staff is pleasant, courteous, friendly and attentive. The place is usually bustling with business, but the staff is swift and efficient. We have never had a bad meal at Sushi Mambo. Do yourself a favor and have lunch or dinner at this fine establishment. more

Worst sushi dining experience ever 12/7/2008

When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought ""Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends,"" but I was wrong. The sushi was sub average at best (I could get the same quality at any higher end supermarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It was extremely frustrating gaining the attention of the servers, though I frequently called for them making pleading eye gestures, waving, even calling out to them directly, all to no avail. Even as the servers passed by me and made eye contact, they kept moving on. We had to ask for our bill three times and only got it after complaining that we had asked so many times and had been waiting up to half an hour. I will definitely never come here again. Pros: none, really Cons: absolutely horrible service, sub par susi, fish smell. Other things were less than thrilling, such as the lighting, but they pale in comparison to the bad service. more

The Value Place 12/5/2008

To get to the point the food is pretty tasty and a good value. The flip side of that coin is the service was horrible. Pros: Good Food Good Price Cons: Bad Service more

tasty 11/28/2008

I have been a restaurant owner for some time now and I have to say the prices at Sushi Mambo are surprisingly economical. At first glance of the menu, I felt that with such low prices the cuisine would be inferior. In contradiction to my expectations the meal was delicious and I had ordered a ""Supercaifragilistic"" and it was delicious. I would have gladly paid twenty dollars for such a largely portioned product. It escapes me as to how they can stay in business with these prices in today?s economy. more

Sushi Mambo, great food, great atmosphere 11/18/2008

Just for your information... the last few reviews on this site are highly suspicious, and most likely were written former disgruntled employees and her friends. I think people need to come into Sushi Mambo and try their great food and service and not pay attention to someone who some people who are trying to slander them. I have been going their for years, sometimes two times a week, and never have gotten sick, never saw a manager or owner yell, and never saw a knife dropped. The Sushi has always been good, sometimes it does take awhile, but lately been better, even on busy nights, but it is always worth the wait. The last person who wrote that Safeway gives Sushi Mambo a run for its money must be smoking something? Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff Cons: Make a reservation on Weekend nights more

Sushi Mambo is the best sushi 6/29/2008

I ate at sushi mambo on a Friday night, they were incredibly busy the Service was wonderful, I noticed after reading the reviews I that people were saying the service was slow I did not notice this. I ordered a large ice cold sparro to drink and salads, edamame and a tempura appetizer. I received all these things quickly and with a very friendly waitress, I don't remember her name but she wore glasses she gave me wonderful service. But the sushi took forever it took about an hour and twenty minutes to receive the rolls and nigri, I saw my waitress at sushi bar asking for our order on several occasions she was very caring and checked on us frequently appologizing for the delay in our order. All though some of you may blame the service for delay in orders it is obviously the sushi chiefs that can't keep up in a busy enviroment and clearly something needs to be done like hiring another chief it takes way to long for the sushi. Sushi Mambo's sushi is very good, but no one wants to spend two hours in a restaraunt I am very surprised that people still eat there. Or how they make any money because to keep people happy they have give away lots of complimentry items, and don't expect to get a table at sushi mambo without a reservation because no one leaves the restaraunt any time soon. The services is very friendly and excellent but it most be very stressful to work in dining where a meal takes over an hour to be made. I can only imagine what the poor wait staff has to go through because as you can tell they get blamed for the meal taking so long to come out. Pros: Very friendly service, and a fun environment Cons: It takes way to long for sushi come on it's raw how long should it take more

Best lunch deal! 2/22/2008

My co-workers have been going to Sushi Mambo for years! We've never had a problem with the service, and even with limited time can get in and out very quickly. We love the Sushi, especially the Fungus Among Us, but our favorite is their bento boxes, always delicious, and a great deal! Also, hot green tea is always on the house! Sushi Mambo is our favorite place for lunch! more

Best sushi around! 10/4/2007

My family has dined here many times and it is one of our favorite restaurants. My daughter ""miss picky"" really likes it. Not only is the sushi outstanding, every time, they offer creative dishes other than sushi. My favorite is the ""fungus amongus"". Their mambo salad is also very good. We will continue to dine here for many years to come. We absolutely love Sushi Mambo! more

best sushi in Napa 8/29/2007

We decied to try out mambo shushi after a long day of tasting and shopping. It was within walking distance to our hotel. We read all the reviews and asked our concierge. The concierge tried to talk ous out of it. We had great service and the food was very good. We will be back. more

Best Sushi in the Bay Area 3/22/2006

Sushi is one of my favorite foods, up there with Thai and Mexican. Being from San Francisco if I want Thai I'll go to the Tenderloin if I want Mexican I'll go to the Mission but if I want Sushi I'll make the trek to the Napa Valley to Sushi Mambo. The fish is so fresh and there is such a unique variety of delicious rolls that I can't find anywhere else in California. I am a very picky person about restaurants when it comes to the food, I could care less about ambience and service as long as the food is delicious. Luckily Sushi Mambo's food is superb and the ambience and service is great as well. If you're in the Napa Valley and want to eat at a classy place with great food on a lower budget check out Sushi Mambo. Pros: Friendly staff, great food, reasonable prices Cons: 45 mile drive from SF, but its worth it! more

7 years and Running !!!!! 1/2/2006

My wife and I have been going here for over three years! We first tried it by picking it out of the phonebook. What a great find! Food has always been excellent, and we have been to many, many sushi restaurants. We have brought many friends to Sushi Mambo and they have all wanted to go back, some go back without us now. I would say the only draw back is their service, it is good, but not great. In my opinion the food out weights the lack of high end service. They have a fun menu with zany names of rolls and they are all great from the ""Fungus Amungus"" (shitake mushroom roll) to the ""Shrimpgasm""(tempura style, shrimp and spicy tuna roll), mmm..... Their albacore tuna is always mouth watering. Ambience is good, noisy at times, not loud. Menu is large and price is good, with decent size portions. Pros: Very Fresh Fish, Priced Well, Great Variety Cons: Have to Drive 20 minutes to Eat ! more
