Best

Our service was great and the waiter was adorable. Ambiance was romantic and definitely recommended. For the music,,,I would recommend jazz or house and the people were cool. Port...

Worst

I really disappointed food which are sushi, sashimi and tempura of this restaurant. This is just average japanese dish, not 10 point rating food. Pros: service Cons: food

Best sushi in Los Angeles. No fluff, just good fish. Awesome! 4/26/2007

First time I ate at Sushi Go 55, I went nuts over the amazing food that I went looking for an apartment nearby so that I can eat there everyday. The sushi is solid. The fish is so fresh that it melts in your mouth like butter. I highly recommend the Spanish mackerel, salmon, red snapper, tuna, amberjack, and hama hama oysters. The regulars go here because it's all about the sushi. No people watching, no drama, no gimmicks, and no fluff. If you appreciate good sushi, Sushi Go 55 is the place for you. Sitting at the bar is also recommended. One has to appreciate the skills that their chefs have day in and day out. more

Bad Service, Good Sushi, Awesome Chef 4/9/2007

So it was Thursday night around 7:30pm, expected the restaurant to be some what crowded since it's dinner time after work and it was. restaurant was clean and majority of the tables were for 2 or 4 people. i must say the presentation of sushi was great and the portions were generous, no doubt that chef is good, but the eel bento box wasn't so great, i had such a hard time trying to break eel into smaller pieces, i think it was one of those frozen eel that was reheated... usually eel is very soft and it melts in your mouth. anyway, one of the older waitress who should have years of experience serving didn't have much common sense and service was awful. would i go again? maybe... someday... Pros: sushi, sashimi, sake Cons: service, waiting time more

Reconciliation with excellent sushi. 3/26/2007

I went to Sushi Go 55 off of the rave reviews from Citysearch. After a great night with my girlfriend at the Getty, we decided to have some sushi. We made reservations for 8:30. We arrived promptly but waited 15 minutes after we arrived for a table. The waitress took our order shortly afterward. At 10 pm (around 70 minutes after the waitress took our order) the sushi chefs had still not started our order and were told that it might take a while longer. i was upset to say the least. One sushi chef looked our way and started snickering. I am Japanese, and I was appalled by what was being said (to me and behind our backs) and done, so we got up and left. The hostess said, ""One sushi chef is sick. Please come back soon, we will try to serve you."" Never will I go back. There was no monetary nor food compensation while we waited, and for a Japanese restaurant owned by Japanese people, I was disgusted by this lack of manners.\r \r On 12/15/2007, we went back to Sushi Go 55. the son of the owners, who is the website manager, called us. On behalf of his parents, he apologized for the service and offered us 2 omokase as a peace offering. My fiance and I took advantage of this omokase tonight, and it was great!!! I understand now why many rave about this place because it was some of the best sushi that I have ever had in my life. Furthermore, I think that there was a change in staff in terms of sushi chefs. i will be going back to this establishment. \r Pros: Owners are attentive to customer opinions. more

Quality Dropping 3/21/2007

I've been going to this place for past 2 years, almost once every 2 weeks. In the beginning, fish was fresh with various live choices certain days. Now, quality and also service is really dropping. Sushi chefs seem to be changing every few months. What's going on? New chefs are so slow. Don't go here on weekends. You'll wait forever getting your food. Also, the daily specials, although same in most days, are getting shorter. Selection is going down. Hate to see this happening to my favorite sushi restaurant. But if this downfall continue, I must now move on to my other choices. Pros: was good Cons: not good now more

Sushi Go Faster than ""55"" 2/15/2007

Valentine's Day '07, My beatiful wife and I check this place out and right away I see how authentic the layout is (My first duty station was Okinawa). From the first bite I was literally blown away by the Chef's choice. Sitting at the bar gave us the opprotunity to expand out pallate like never before and experience amazing flavors that in other places would have only been alien print to us. We've been to many a sushi place but it was uninanimous: by far the best we've ever had and the staff was cool. more

Double Stack Chirashi 2/15/2007

Most of the places I go I order the Chirashi so I can get a sample of the sushi. So I got the Chirashi and two bento's came stacked on one another. One for the vegatable and one for the fish. Both extremely fresh. I also ordered the blue crab roll which was awesome. Needless to say with the Chirashi and the blue crab roll I was really stuffed. I've recommended the restuarant to a few friends as well and they all really like it. Very authetic and in the heart of little tokyo. I had lunch there and we were surround by japanese business men. It was alittle hard communicating with the waitress because the first one we had only spoke japanese so I would recommend this restuarant to people who know there sushi and novices. Pros: Great Sushi, very authentic. Cons: I would serve you well to know your sushi and know how to order in Japanese, not open sunday more

Good Quality and Good Deal 2/9/2007

The best time to come to this place is during lunch on the weekday. They have a lunch special for only $10!!! If I remember correctly there are about 8 pieces of sushi!. It also includes miso and some cold apetizer dishes. It is really more than enough for lunch. The quality of the sushi is actually very good for a price like that. Pros: Price, Quality Cons: Lunch Special only on weekday more

Great for Traditional Sushi!!! 2/2/2007

One of the best for traditional japanese sushi!!! no creamy rolls that you get at some places... this is the spot if you love the raw fish taste!\r \r The uni, hamachi, sake were excellent!!! Nice, big slices of sushi on rice...\r The albacore was a bit disappointing, but everything else was grealty superior to many other sushi restaurants.\r \r Pros: GREAT SUSHI!!! GOOD PRICE FOR WHAT YOU GET!!! more

Very Authentic Japanese Sushi 1/18/2007

We were there tonight for the first time and it's a fabulous restaurant. My girlfriend and I had the best sushi so far in LA. We're from San Francisco and SF has pretty high standard when it comes to sushi. Anyways, my girlfriend's favorite was the Japanese Aji sushi and mine was the spicy scallop sushi. Overall it's a great experience but a little pricey. But we'll return for sure. Pros: Fresh sushi, parking, staff Cons: little expensive more

STILL THE BEST 12/30/2006

I saw two negative reviews and just had to respond. I consider myself a sushi conossieur. I was introduced to sushi only 9 years ago but in that time I not only have dined in the finest sushi restaurants in the United States and continue to try it when traveling abroad; I worked in one of the finer (though more Americanized) sushi restaurants in Chicago for a year which is where I began my more technical sushi education. Unfortunately I have yet to travel to Japan but it is there and only there that I suspect I will dine at a restaurant that surpasses the quality, selection and service of Sushi Go 55. My suspicion with those that give a negative review is that they are perhaps put off by the handwritten sign above the door, or the handwritten pages they hand you as the menu. Or perhaps Sushi Go 55 isn't as trendy or as dimly lit as they would like. Have no doubt, Sushi Go 55 is AUTHENTIC. They're fish is the freshest, tastiest and they have the best selection around. Ever heard of Kohada (It's divine!!). I have dined both lunch and dinner by myself and with friends and clients many many times since first learning of Sushi Go 55 a year ago (to the day in fact). How many times is many times? Let's say somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 times. In one year. I have sat at the tables but really prefer to sit at the beautiful Hinoki sushi bar where all the action is. I have had sushi prepared by every sushi chef who has worked there in the last year. Never, not once, has the unbelievable freshness and tastiness of Sushi Go 55's fish failed to impress myself or my guests. For this, Sushi Go 55 is quickly becoming legend amongst the people in the know. But hey, why am I telling you? Don't go.......then there's more for me. ;-) Pros: finest sushi around, free parking, service, sake list more

Friendliest staff anywhere!! As fresh as it gets!! 11/6/2006

The best sushi I've ever had. PERIOD. The bar has been set. The chefs here are friendly and their artistry is amazing to watch. The staff is very warm and friendly. I felt as if I were in their home for a private dinner party. The Tai and Aji are AMAZING! I have no intention of going anywhere else....... I'd feel like I were cheating! I defy anyone to be less than completely satisfied! Wonderful, exotic flavors await!!!! Pros: F.R.E.S.H.!!!!, Warm friendly atmosphere, fun more

Way too over-rated. 11/2/2006

We went because of all the raving reviews, but I guess I expected too much. The sushi wasn't as fresh as I thought it would be. I was so disappointed with everything, especially the uni, my most favorite! You know how really fresh uni tastes like you've just had a taste of the sea? That fresh, clear, crisp, almost sweet taste... yeah, their uni didn't have that. It was so bland and tasteless. If you're a true sushi lover, I don't recommend this place at all. more

Seems over-rated to me 11/2/2006

Went for lunch expecting more. Sushi was ok but nothing great. Service was slow and they put us in the corner of the sushi bar, even though every seat but two was available. more

a good lunch time deal 10/15/2006

i had the chirashi sushi box for lunch. the service was fast and it was very good (surprisingly so especially because of the fast service). the price was reasonable given the types of fish offered. plus, parking was validated and there were ample spaces available. it was a very good lunch deal. Pros: parking, service, food Cons: can't think of any more

Great spicy tuna rolls! 8/15/2006

The sushi was pretty good but be careful about going there at night. A lady's car was broken into in the parking structure and her radio was stolen. Otherwise, it was a great time. more

fresh fresh fresh 6/29/2006

i am always concern about sushi anywhere I go. Because my husband business, I visit new york at least six times a year. there the best is ""Bond"", well sushi go 55 is in my opinion 100% comparable with bond, this is how much i like their sushi! Pros: fresh fresh Cons: consistency more

Among the best in town! 6/28/2006

I went on Sat night and had some of the best sashimi in Los Angeles, the tuna, kanpachi, and tai from Japan were so fresh, excellent! I also enjoyed the sake steamed clam and steamed red snapper head, tofu, wakame and shitake mushroom served with ponzu sauce, the broth was sweet and delicious. The soft shell crab roll was a little oily for me, and the shitake mushroom with minced prawn tempura was not as tasty as expected. The service was a little disorganized in the beginning, there was some confusion regarding where we would be seated but everything smoothed out eventually and the waiting ladies were quite courteous. I am thinking of going back already :-)\r Pros: Fresh fish, good presentation, courteous service more

The BEST! 6/16/2006

I have been to Sushi Go 55 many times this year since learning of it on Citysearch and they have never failed to impress. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, they always have the freshest selection of fish, the choicest cuts and the best specials. Sushi Go 55 is one of the very few sushi restaurants that serve fresh unagi, VERY different than what Americans are accustomed to. They also regularly have other fish and a large selection of clams never seen at other sushi places. For saba lovers, try the kohada for an authentic taste of Japan. If you need to eat on the cheap, order a take or matsu dinner, unlike other restaurants, the chef's selection will not disappoint! Pros: authentic experience, parking more

AMAZINGLY FRESH SUSHI 5/20/2006

Try the TORO......it is sold at market price which can be a little bit more pricy than the other sushi but it is the most amazing thing ever, it practically melts in your mouth and is well worth at least trying. Me and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp tempura dinner to start things off, this comes with an array of little appetizers, the tempura was crisp and fresh. Next we had the yellowtail roll with onion and a spicy tuna roll, yellowtail, tuna, octopus and squid sushi and topped it all off with the incredible TORO :0)......everything was exceptionally fresh and was quickly prepared. I would have never thought sushi this good would be hiding in a little run down mall. We will definitely go back to this little ""diamond in the rough"". Pros: FRESH SUSHI, DINNER SPECIALS, MISO SOUP...YUM more

Go Go Go ! 5/11/2006

I cannot say enough about this wonderful restaurant! Once I was introduced to this restaurant I returned weekly, (if not bi-weekly or more, sometimes twice in a day). The owner, staff, and chefs are always kind and welcoming - even during their busiest hours! The fish is amazingly fresh, all their specials are a delicacy. I return all the time and bring the other sushi enthusiasts in my life. No one has ever been disappointed - and we are a tough crowd! Go Go Go Sushigo55! xxoo Pros: fresh!, parking made simple, wonderful people more
