Over priced, not tasty 9/10/2009

My wife and I visited this restaurant last Friday for dinner. We ordered Tempeh Korma in their Specialties and Bamboo Steamer. The foods were not impressive at all, particularly considering their unbelievable prices. The bad experience with the restaurant did not end. In the night, both my wife and I came down with terrible d iarrhea, lasting about a couple of hours. I wouldn't visit this place again and wouldn't recommend to anyone! Pros: organic vegetable, ambiance Cons: over priced, not tasty more

Great tasting, healthy food - nice wines! 1/16/2009

We have eaten at Sunflower several times and enjoy it more each visit. Always nicely prepared and presented food, nice atmosphere and very good selection of wine. We eat out a lot and this place has become a favorite! Pros: Excellent organic dishes in a nice setting Cons: Service is spotty, sometimes gr8, sometimes slow more

high end menu and prices with average atmosphere and food 5/11/2008

I've lived in Berkeley California for the last seven years and have been spoiled by the excellent California Cuisine that abounds there. Sunflower Organic Dining had an exciting looking menu and strong reviews but was a big disappointment. Pros: Some interesting and tasty dishes Cons: Loud and some pretty bad food more

Great Vegan meal when you are out with non-vegans 4/17/2008

I bring my out of town friends here when one or more are vegans, but all are not. The menu has always pleased everyone so far. Happy hour prices on their specialties are worth checking out. more

Fabulous Food! 12/3/2007

First off, both my wife and I are ""foodies"" and have made a point of trying virtually every restaurant of note in the Denver/Boulder area. We have been to Sunflower several times in the past couple of months and have enjoyed it every time. Most recently we took my parents, who could be considered less adventurous eaters, and we all truly enjoyed our dishes (so much so that we all agreed that we would hold our next family get-together there). Pros: Great food, service and atmosphere more

Delicious organic and vegan dining 11/21/2007

I always have a hard time finding a place to go to eat in Boulder with a friend of mine that lives there and might be the pickiest eater I know. She is vegan and I am not, but we both try to eat organic as much as possible and the Sunflower has become our favorite place to meet for dinner. I have been to the Sunflower under both the old and new ownership and I have really enjoyed the new menu and what seems to me to be a friendlier more inviting atmosphere. I absolutely love the mussels, the buffalo sirloin and the coconut kaffir marinated bass. My very picky vegan friend usually has the bamboo steamer and loves it and she also eats brunch at the Sunflower on a regular basis because it's the only place she can get wheat-free, gluten-free vegan pancakes that according to her taste amazing. I've also been to the Sunflower with large parties for celebrations. Everytime I go the service is very professional, friendly and efficient and the food is always delicious. Plus, it is actually possible to enjoy a great meal without spending much money, since some of the appetizers are meals in themselves, including the artesian cheese plate and the breads and spreads. By far the best restaurant in Boulder and maybe all of Colorado! Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Absolutely none more

New menu a shot of life 11/19/2007

We recently ate Sunday brunch at Sunflower and really enjoyed it.....so much so that I've now gone back several times with clients for business lunches. (most recently tried the Ahi Tuna melt with side salad - amazing bread, very tasty, and the portion was just right - not too small, not too large) Pros: New menu, organic, healthy Cons: Previous menu had some bland fare, but those days are gone more

Two thumbs up! 11/18/2007

I?ve been eating at Sunflower on and off since it first opened. I always liked it quite a bit, and was somewhat skeptical when I heard that the restaurant changed hands recently. I?ve now enjoyed 4 amazing dinners and a lunch with the new owner, and I must say that my skepticism about the change has been transformed into refreshed enthusiasm for what is now, without a doubt, my favorite restaurant in Boulder. It?s true: the old menu has been replaced with a new one, but not without maintaining the spirit and theme of the original. The new menu has broadened the selection, increased the range of flavors, and added some new flair and personality to previously mediocre dishes. The menu presents a thoughtfully broad range of organic, vegetarian and vegan dishes, but isn't limited to vegetables and tofu, like other places in town. They also have a great new wine selection and some incredible new deserts. I have to hand it to the new owner for doing a great job of taking this restaurant to the next level. Pros: Amazing food, great variety, great new menu Cons: Not the cheapest place in town, but you get what you pay for! more

Incredible restaurant 11/17/2007

Great menu- a lot to choose from, and very healthy and amazing. Delicious wine, friendly and fast service, and a very comfortable atmosphere! more

Best new food experience 11/16/2007

First time I've tried an ""organic"" restaurant and what a great surprise to find truly tasteful, filling food. (I expected something minimalist and chincy)...but not the case! Plenty of flavors and servings for both of us. Pros: The eclectic food choices, atmosphere and wine selection Cons: None! more

Sunflower - Best meal in Boulder! 11/16/2007

WOW! We just had a fabulous dinner at Sunflower. We were lucky enough to dine at the Sunflower at the introduction of their new fall menu. You need to get yourself into Sunflower to try this devine menu! We especially loved the Indian-spiced Mussles (best mussles I have EVER had!). The main course was delicious as well, I loved the rissotto... creamy and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is upscale and we were treated to exceptional service. The price was quite reasonable... and we highly recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and family. Truly, a phenomenal dining experience. Can't wait to return to sample the rest of the menu. Well done, Sunflower! Pros: Food, service, ambiance, new menu Cons: NOTHING!! more

""X"" marks the spot for a disgrace 10/27/2007

My wife and I decided to change it up last night and try a restaurant where we hadn't previously dined. We chose the Sunflower because of its reputation for high quality organic produce and meat.... Our greeting and service was fine, even friendly, but that only goes so far. I was immediately concerned when I saw the menu- It was large and didn't seem to have any coesion, ethnically or conceptually. There was mussels with ""Indian"" spice, duck confit, pasta dujour, Kafir lime and coconut milk bass.... a little of everthing! But this raised a red flag to me, because it was hard to imagine every dish given its proper care with such a variety of techniques being used. But I held out hope, until I inexplicabely ordered the pasta dujour which the server told me came with local vegetables, and my wife, being the stone-cold massochist that she is, ordered the ""truffled vegetable gratinee with ""VEGAN CREAM."" more

Bland and boring menu; food looks and tastes like slop 8/27/2007

2 people recommended this restaurant. Its only bonus is that they use organic vegetables and free range meats. That was what drew us in. Unfortunately, when we looked at the menu we thought it was lackluster considering what you can do with food. The salads were unimpressive. Just your basic salad. When i finally decided on an entree, I hesitantly ordered the teriyaki bowl with shrimp-and I thought, ""I hope it doesnt taste like Tokyo Joes"". But, it did. The veggies and brown rice were swimming in sauce. It was more like soup. The shrimp were good-but not for 20 bucks. I should have taken it back but was feeling unmotivated. Pros: Pretty decor, and clean bathrooms Cons: Overpriced, bland food. No creative chef there. more

Over priced, food was okay at best 11/20/2006

Typical Boulder.... The food wasn't that great, I thought it ws over priced and the waiter looked like they had never made it home from the night before... (hung over) Pros: I am not sure there were any Cons: Everything more

Good Food but is that Enough? 2/26/2006

I've always had excellent dining experiences at the Sunflower previously, but had a less than optimal experience last week. I ordered the steamed vegetables with udon noodles and a marvelous sauce. Enjoyed every bite of it. One of my friends ordered a special that came to the table with too much spice in it for his palate, and when he asked about getting something different the waiter replied rudely, and then the chef came out and was defensive and rude as well. This ruined our meal, although looking back on the experience later it seemed somehow comical. Our bill was over $70 for 3 people before tip and tax, and we did not order alcoholic beverages or dessert. We felt it was a bit steep. The food is of excellent quality at the Sunflower, usually, but is that enough? Pros: good food, pleasant ambiance, quick seating Cons: rude waiter, self-righteous chef, expensive more

Best of Boulder 9/11/2005

If you seek organic, health-conscious cuisine, this is the place for you. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly and most helpful. Boulder is full of organic everything these days. Sunflower is the place to see healthy cuisine done to perfection. Pros: Health-conscious, Delicious, Friendly more

Delicious 10/7/2003

Delicious! Delightful food and excellent service characterize this fabulous place. Even careful eaters will find the chance to indulge their finest food fantasies without sacrificing any scruples. The chefs demonstrate imagination and intuitive understanding of what makes good food great. Pros: delicious food, unique, intimate & inclusive more

SAVE YOURSELF THE PAIN! 8/29/2003

As a person who likes to try new things, I read the reviews of Sunflower and thought it would be a great place to have lunch. I ordered the special (can't go wrong there, right?), and I received brown tuna so dry that it was likely dangerous, partially-cooked clumps of basmati rice, and ended up taking bites of my boyfriend's turkeyburger. Our meal cost approximately $30, and was the worst I've had in Boulder. Also, the atmosphere is pleasant and artsy, however the waiter never asked how we liked our food. Pros: eclectic atmosphere Cons: horrible food, overpriced, not worth the trip more

Good food, but has an attitude 8/30/2002

The sunflower used to be a great place to get well prepared food. The duck is excellent, chicken good, and the other dishes tasty as well. (buffalo steak was a little tough). But with my last visit they imparted a little more attitude than necessary. Rather than give us menus, we received a wine list and the drinks were heavily pushed before our meal. We were going to order anyway but it felt like we needed to spend more money than necessary with this extra push. more

Healthy and DELICIOUS 8/8/2002

The food at Sunflower is unique and quite delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere calming. I would highly recommend this restaurant! It was a wonderful dining experience. KUDOS!!! Pros: excellent food, great value, unique Cons: parking more
