Great BBQ! 5/27/2005

We are new to SLC and have been trying out restaurants in the Sugar House area. The BBQ at this restaurant is as good as it gets; even better than the famous Arthur Bryants in Kansas City. The brisket is really tender and lean, and the pork ribs are superb. The cornbread is dense and not the kind that crubles the moment you try and butter it. The cole slaw is above average, and the cucumber salad is great. The potato salad is just average. Portions are fair sized but not enormous. The price is very fair for what you get; the brisket sandwich is only $5.50. Pros: quality, fair price, deecnt sized portions more

Non-existent service 3/1/2005

We took our kids, and it was not a pleasant experience. I had plenty to eat, though the ribs started to get a bit dry at the end of the rack started to taste and feel like jerky. My wifes meal was rather small, though hers was only $6 so I guess you get what you pay for. Their menus say Ask about our kids meals. All they have are corn dogs. Our kids didnt like them. What really disappointed us was the service. Our server was standing around most of the time, and in regards to the service offered to us, it was limited to taking our order, delivering the food, and later the check. Never did he refill our glasses of water, or ask us how the food was. I dont expect well be visiting the Sugar House BBQ Company again. Cons: Poor Service, Dry Food more

Service? 1/18/2005

I thought I would take a client to Sugarhouse BBQ so we could get some work done (they told me over the phone they had wireless) have a little BBQ. When I got there, we were about the only people there. Found a great table and tried unsuccessfully to connect to their wireless. Ordered cocktails, began meeting and were interrupted several times (in a short period of time) asking if we wanted food...I told them 'not right now' until the server finally came over and said that we had to order something because his boss was getting mad at our just sitting there...(restaurant was EMPTY...Order some ribs off the menu...terrible...dry, DRY, DRY..over-priced.. kept getting the 'look' as if we were an inconvienince...paid, left, won't go back. My client agreed. Sorry SugarHouse BBQ, but ya could have done better than that.... more

NOT the best B-B-Q in S.L.C. 12/8/2004

You can bring a date to this BBQ. It has decent decor and good service, for getting a sandwich. It just does NOT have good ribs. The ribs are unexceptional, and ordinary at best. For the best ribs in the south-west, go to Q4U. Pros: Decor, Service, Parking more

The all NEW Sugarhouse BBQ! 2/23/2004

The sandwiches are large and now come with 2 large sides for $7.50. A great price for the portions and the quality. They now have table service and are expanding their dining area. Sugar House Barbeque is good, finger licking barbeque. The meat is tender, and well seasoned. The wonderful sauces they serve make the meal. They have delicious BBQ sauce, honey mustard, & ""PIG"" sause. Their sides are really good. My personal favorite are the mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and the corn bread stuffing. All in all a great place for some tasty BBQ at a fair price! I would skip the baby back ribs as you will pay $14 for 5 small ribs. Pros: expanding, outdoor dining more

MMMMMMMMM!!!! 12/11/2003

Sugarhouse had catered some luncheons for the executives in our office. Usually when there were left overs they would be sent to our lunch room room. This is where I first fell in love with Sugarhouse. My wife is from the South and has complained that there is nowhere in the state to get GOOD southern style BBQ. We have tried several other places and none of them ever lived up to her expectations. When I took my wife there for the first time I swore she was having an out of body experience. She gushed that this was the BEST BBQ she had had since moving out west! The food is awesome and the portions are healthy for the price. I don't do ribs but the pulled pork and smoked turkey are TO DIE FOR! Cornbread is excellent. Be sure to try all of their great side dishes too! Pros: YUMMY! more

Sugarhouse BBQ is good 10/1/2003

Just moved here from Memphis, and Sugarhouse is most like real Memphis BBQ that I have found in SLC. Ribs and slaw are good, but beans are nothing like what you would find in the South. Only other flaw- we asked waitress for our ribs dry (no sauce, just rub) and she did not know what dry ribs were. Not very authentic for a place that bills itself as ""authentic Memphis BBQ"". Pros: Good ribs & slaw, Inexpensive, Ok atmosphere Cons: Needto offer dry ribs, Beans not authentic more

THIS IS REAL RIBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6/28/2003

I had the ""Bill's Big Combo."" The ribs are really, REALLY good. I'm from the south and know good BBQ when I taste it. Their ribs are smoked for 4 hrs. and are very tender and moist. Great rub and sauce!!!!! The beef brisket was very good also; it has that great smoke flavor to it. The pulled pork was good but not great. I have had better; it was just a tad bit dry. I also had the BBQ beans and the Greek Oven Roasted Potatoes. The Potatoes were awsome but a little on the dry side. The beans were good but not my kind of beans (too sweet). I'm sure most people would like them. The cornbread tasted more like yellow cake than bread in my opinion. The ribs and service are top notch so go there and enjoy. I know I am again!!!!! Pros: Ribs, Service, Atmosphere more

Expensive but good taste 2/18/2003

Barbeque was good, but portions were small. Jerk chicken and beef brisket were good, but weak Mc Donald's style buns for the sandwiches. Doesn't hold a pork rib to Pecos Pit - Seattle. Pros: Clean, Barbeque smell, Beer Cons: small portions more

Dry and Boring 1/9/2003

Ribs were large but dry and not much sauce. The corn bread was the best part of the medicore meal. more

Ribs good enough to be in Kansas City. 1/9/2003

The smoked pork ribs at the Sugar House Barbeque are one of the best around. I've had Winslows and Arthur Bryant's Ribs in Kansas City and they are 2 of the best in the U.S. and Sugar House ranks up with them. more

Great Food 10/15/2002

Sugarhouse BBQ has really great food. The service and food quality are always consistent and great. more

Good ribs 10/11/2002

Their Memphis style ribs are first-rate. I've never tried their babybacks. Also, decent brisket and pulled pork. Side dishes are not as good. No stand outs.... and baked beans are a bit too vinegary. Pros: good ribs, nice patio Cons: poor side dishes more

So-so 9/21/2002

Our first visit to SHBBQ left me feeling...a bit unsatisfied. Had the baby backs - I found them mediocre. By no means the best BBQ in town, at least I hope not. more

Delicious ribs! 8/6/2002

My husband had received a gift certificate to go to Sugar House BBQ and it was such a treat! There was a lot of meat on the ribs versus nothing or just tons of fat. The rub they put on it is delicious also. It really reminds me of the BBQ's in the South. You have to try it! more

The best REAL BBQ in or out of Memphis! 8/2/2002

Having lived in Memphis, I would say Sugarhouse Barbeque Company is right up there with Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous in Memphis! Pros: Food, Value Cons: Atmosphere more

Texas style! 7/30/2002

This bbq is definitely texas style and it's very tasty. They have a nice selection of sauces for different types of sandwiches. Pros: inexpensive more

Great simple food 7/24/2002

Tasty, tasty barbeque. I'd drive over here, even if it weren't close by, just to dive into the ribs (heavenly). For a lighter meal, the sandwiches are great- quality ingredients. The sides are varied and delicious, as well. We've never had a problem with service. Call ahead for carry-out. They added a fence to the back part of the restaurant, which makes sitting out back at the picnic benches better. Pros: Casual dining more
