I'd taken my dogs to Dr. Brown for years at Bigger Road vet clinic. He left there (I don't know why) and I try to see him at Suburban, but can rarely get an appt. with him. (he's popular and rightly so) I used to be able to call the other clinic and he talk to me personally, Suburban does not let me talk to him., I can only leave a message for him to call me and hope they give it to him. The times I have gotten an appt. with him, the charges for routine care were staggering! They once refused to see my dogs because I had done my puppies' vaccinations myself instead of paying their over-inflated prices for puppy shots. (I have years of experience with breeding, whelping, vaccinating) With this clinic, it's always money first and the animal second. If you balk at the hyper-inflated fees, the staff treats you like dirt. The worst experience was when I had to put an aged pet to sleep. I made an appointment but when I got there the desk staff didn't seem to know why I was there, and made me wait in reception while they checked it out. The ultimate insult was they made me PAY for the euthanasia before they would do it!!! I'm crying my eyes out over having to say goodbye to my beloved pet, and they wanted my fricking credit card FIRST!!!! What's happened to compassion? \r
(it's not like I'd never been there before!) I'm used to being taken right to a room. and then being sent a bill for the services after. I've always held my pets while they had to be euthanized, but this vet tech didn't want to let me, wanted to take my dog to the back and do it. (I refused) In the past, Dr. Brown had always just found a leg vein and injected them while I held them, always wanted to make it as easy as possible and not upset the pet, but the tech at Suburban insisted on SHAVING my poor old dog's leg and inserting a CATHETER first. Just something else they can charge a fat fee for...I've always found Dr. Brown to be the most thorough, caring, compassionate vet, very knowledgeable, and he's always respected my 30+ years experience in dogs, never talked down to me, always took the time to explain things, drew diagrams, whatever. The Suburban staff treats me like I'm an idiot that doesn't know a dog from a dinosaur. My dogs and I adore Dr.Brown, but I sure wish the clinic had some humanity and wasn't so money-hungry. If you want a first class vet, try to get an appt. with Dr.Brown, but be prepared to pay out the nose and be treated rudely by the staff. He's worth it, but it can be hard to take.
Pros: Dr. Brown is the best vet in town
Cons: clinic overpriced, staff rude, very unsympathetic
