I was surprised to read the negative reviews. I have been going to Suburban Veterinary Clinic for decades with birds, cats and dogs and have always experienced caring staff and v...

Worst

Do not, do not, do not take your senior/hospice animal here for care. My dog was dying (gradually, from old age, poor thing was 15) and had pain from some undiagnosed problem (was...

fabulous vet, awful clinic 5/28/2009

I'd taken my dogs to Dr. Brown for years at Bigger Road vet clinic. He left there (I don't know why) and I try to see him at Suburban, but can rarely get an appt. with him. (he's popular and rightly so) I used to be able to call the other clinic and he talk to me personally, Suburban does not let me talk to him., I can only leave a message for him to call me and hope they give it to him. The times I have gotten an appt. with him, the charges for routine care were staggering! They once refused to see my dogs because I had done my puppies' vaccinations myself instead of paying their over-inflated prices for puppy shots. (I have years of experience with breeding, whelping, vaccinating) With this clinic, it's always money first and the animal second. If you balk at the hyper-inflated fees, the staff treats you like dirt. The worst experience was when I had to put an aged pet to sleep. I made an appointment but when I got there the desk staff didn't seem to know why I was there, and made me wait in reception while they checked it out. The ultimate insult was they made me PAY for the euthanasia before they would do it!!! I'm crying my eyes out over having to say goodbye to my beloved pet, and they wanted my fricking credit card FIRST!!!! What's happened to compassion? \r (it's not like I'd never been there before!) I'm used to being taken right to a room. and then being sent a bill for the services after. I've always held my pets while they had to be euthanized, but this vet tech didn't want to let me, wanted to take my dog to the back and do it. (I refused) In the past, Dr. Brown had always just found a leg vein and injected them while I held them, always wanted to make it as easy as possible and not upset the pet, but the tech at Suburban insisted on SHAVING my poor old dog's leg and inserting a CATHETER first. Just something else they can charge a fat fee for...I've always found Dr. Brown to be the most thorough, caring, compassionate vet, very knowledgeable, and he's always respected my 30+ years experience in dogs, never talked down to me, always took the time to explain things, drew diagrams, whatever. The Suburban staff treats me like I'm an idiot that doesn't know a dog from a dinosaur. My dogs and I adore Dr.Brown, but I sure wish the clinic had some humanity and wasn't so money-hungry. If you want a first class vet, try to get an appt. with Dr.Brown, but be prepared to pay out the nose and be treated rudely by the staff. He's worth it, but it can be hard to take. Pros: Dr. Brown is the best vet in town Cons: clinic overpriced, staff rude, very unsympathetic more

Excellent Professional Vets and service 9/3/2008

We have owns dogs for over 20 years and have gone to many vets during that time. We had boarded our dog at, what we thought, was a good modern boarding institution. Three days after we left our dog we were told that she wasn't doing well and had to be taken to a vet. Well Surburban Veterinary Clinic was the closest.\r Unfortunately our family member didn't survive the dehydration the boarding institution had caused. \r \r Ever since we have gone to Suburban Veterinary Clinic . We have found that not only do the do their utmost in caring for our pets, but to the entire family. Their care and service is EXCELLENT!! The on going and modern facility is the cleanest, most comfortable, and efficient, system I have ever encountered. Patient and owner's care is always a priority with Suburban's staff.. \r A friend of mine from out-of-town( full time motor home retiree's) came through with her dog in distress and they accommodated them to help them in their time of crisis. Doctors and staff were so kind and loving to their pet they wish that this kind of service was available where they go all the time.\r \r If you want the VERY BEST for your pets at moderate cost, this is the place you'll love.\r Pros: Excellent Veterinarians Cons: We have found NONE !! more

Most caring, kind vet clinic - always have my pet's best interests at heart 7/6/2008

This is the most caring, kind vet clinic I have ever experienced. My whole family takes their pets there and loves them! I feel the staff cares as much for my pets as much as I do. I have always been treated kindly, fairly and promptly by the vets as well as the staff. I have been going there for about 20 years now and had a dog and two cats that lived long lives due to their care and when the time came to put them to sleep, I was treated extrememly kindy and sympathetically. I received a sympathy card from them long before I got the bill for the service. I know they are always going to do their utmost to care for the three cats I have now and I will always know they have my pet's best interest at heart. Pros: State of the art, knowledgeable, extremely kind, fair and prompt more

Little Albert 6/28/2008

My husband was given a kitten which was bought through Fayette County Humane Society and he had a problem with diarrhea so called them and they referred my to the Suburban Vet Clinic with Dr Schrader she then went into this whole thing about if I didn't have the money to pay for the kitten care that she would take it back I felt belittled because I told her I didn't have the money for the care of the diarrhea but I feel that they the litter of kitten was not properly examined and was sent out sick to be sold I don't think it was my place for the care for Dr Schrader said she check all the kitten out and they had no problems but when I brought Albert to her she stated that the other kittens were having diarrhea too then stated again that I wasn't able to come back to clinic for free care I was belittled again in front of her staff I would not bring my kitten back there if she was the last vet in the state the cost was not coming out of her pocket Fayette County was paying the bill so I more

Go see them!! 4/25/2008

This was actually my first time visiting this Vet. I am very very pleased! It felt like i was at home talking with my vet. They made us feel so comfortable!! They were very honest with everything. I cannot stress enough how comfortable it was. We laughed and talked for about an hour after they checked my canine. I have yet to find a vet that i want to stick with but i think i have now =) more

Bad customer service, rip off rates 4/18/2008

It's not until I went to another vet that I found out that Suburban's prices are over-inflated ! I've been there for years and recently left because of their rude staff. I hate changes and it really takes a lot for me to switch. Their staff has cut me off mid-sentence and are always rushing me out. Maybe to pay their big bills. My dog liked her doctor but she left so now there's no reason to stay. Pros: Nice clinic Cons: Price, disgruntled staff more

Wouldn't help a hurt animal 12/10/2007

We moved to the area a few months ago and so when our parekeet was seriously injured last week we didn't know where to go. I was referred to the Suburban Vet clinic by another Vet as a place that could help my parakeet. I drove straight there and rushed in. When I told them that I needed help for my parakeet that had been stepped on they asked if he was a patient. I told them he wasn't. They said they couldn't help him then. When I stated that he was hurt and needed help the lady at the desk told me to wait a minute. She went in back and when she came back she asked if I had any other pets that were patients there. She said if I did they could help him. I told her I didn't and she said they wouldn't help him. She gave me a list of numbers I could try. I was heart broken that they could allow an animal to suffer for any reason. I did find a wonderful Vet and my parakeet is recovering amazingly well. Pros: They seem to have good hours Cons: They won't necessarily see you more

Expect rude behavior 10/19/2007

Don't be surprised if the staff shows you contempt and disrespect. I had a receptionist wald away from me during a question - letting me have the pleasure ot ""talking to her back"". I found another Vet. more

Stay away from this vet 7/22/2007

We recently had to put our dog to sleep after going to this vet for years. We always pay at time of service but when you have to put your dog down they send you the bill in the mail. I recieved a statement from the vet stating ""Final notice: If not paid in full immediately you will be reported to the credit bureau."" Stunned, I called the vet and explained that this was the first notice I had recieved and could I please have a month extension due to a lot of bills piling up this particular month. Very rudely the office manager said no and that she knows I had recieved other bills and that she would only give me a one week extension to pay this bill. For a company we've been going to for years with no previous issue of late payments, I was shocked. We now go to a different vet who charges way less for their services. I should've left a long time ago and do not reccomend this vet office to anyone who wants to be treated with respect and pay a fair price for services. Cons: Horrible customer service, overpriced more

Most personable vet I have ever been to. I drive 30 miles out of the way just to go to him! 4/18/2007

Dr. Brown is quite possibly the best vet I have ever been to. He takes the time to explain to you what is or is not wrong with your pet and is very personable. He is very knowledgeable about ferrets, though not a ferret specialist, he is the next best thing. I highly recommend him for any animal you have. more

Great facility 11/30/2005

I was very impressed by the facilities and the staff here. I saw several of the vets in the practice and was happy with each of them. I felt my pets received a complete exam each time I took them and received excellent care when an emergency arose. I only wish I lived near there now. more

WONDERFUL vet clinic 11/6/2005

My pets are like kids to me. I am very picky when it comes to choosing a vet. When we moved I was forced to find a new vet. I happend to find this clinic. The vets and staff here are A++, they are friendly, caring and very knowledgeable. They make you feel right at home and take care of your pets like they were their own. If your pet has to stay there over night or for a day they make sure to keep you updated. I have never had to call them to check on my pets~they have always called me first. Their fees are very reasonable and so is their scheduling. I highly recomend Suburban Veterinary Clinic. more

Wonderful staff, wonderful care! 6/5/2005

Being new to town, we had to find a vet for our animals. We had no clue where to start, so we chose one we remembered driving past when trying to learn the area. Their office is very clean, comfortable, and professional. Their staff is friendly to you and your pets, knowledgeable, and efficient. The vets and assistants are also very friendly and make you feel very much at ease. For anyone looking for a loving, clean place with fantastic vets and staff, I highly recommend this office. more
